Lots of potential, but needs some TLC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 24, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

*UPDATED 4/27/2019*
You get a workout here. No doubt, the hike from 5 to 6 is a monster. The uphill shots make for good challenge. I played in a ridiculous crosswind off of #1 which was very tricky with the OB. This course has been updated. Last year, I played it and rated it 0.5 because it was nigh unplayable for someone unfamiliar with the layout. This year, I was pleasantly surprised and I'm upping it to 2.5 for several reasons:

1. There is a map at the parking lot that directs you to the #1 tee.
2. The map also shows you the revised layout of the course.
3. There are some additional markers and arrows along the way to direct you.
4. The grass was nicely maintained, and the goat path to 6 was findable

My PROS from last year are as follows:
"Terrain is hilly. The uphill shots are a good challenge. The other side of the mountain is supposedly picturesque. It's conveniently located near Cal U. The brush adds a technical challenge that is welcomed."

Cons:

*UPDATED 4/27/2019*
The baskets are mislabeled. This isn't a problem if you know which basket you're going for (which you now do because of the new maps and signage), but it was a problem last year without those amenities.
There are no permanent pads; I came across a rubber mat near the #7 tee but well in front of it (red tee maybe?). I don't think the Udisc app was matched up with the current layout, but maybe I'm wrong there.

My CONS from last year are as follows:
"There is no map, there are no tee markers, and certainly no tee pads, and the baskets are largely unlabeled. Cell service is a little flaky as well, so if there is a map, make sure you get it before you go because you might not be able to download it on site."

Other Thoughts:

*UPDATED 4/27/2019*
I almost didn't come back. And I was disheartened by the 50/50 feedback I got on this review because I was trying to be fair. Last year, this course was un-navigable. It's very different now and I was impressed with the amount of effort that went into sprucing it up over the past year. It's a little tricky because of the labeling on the baskets, but if you look at the map (I took a picture of it and used it for reference) you can see where to go. There is real challenge on a lot of throws and you will do some serious hiking. The front 5 are visible from the road to the parking lot. But then you follow a path straight up a hill that gets narrower as you get higher, and looks like you're going straight for someone's fenced yard, and then you end up following the property line a bit before snaking around. You finally get to the top of the hill all out of breath. Fortunately, 6 is a short hole. You get a whole different view as you play 6-16 before descending back through the brush over to the 17 tee which is back on the front side again. Beware of grabby trees that are covered in vines that won't ever let your disc free. Having never played hole 7 before, I laid up my drive to the tree barrier and attempted a thumber over the trees to the basket... forgetting the aforementioned wind and watched my new zone turn over and fly off into the clutches of those trees and get nestled deep into a nest of vines, only getting deeper entrenched the more I threw things at it to jar it free. Word to the wise, those trees and that brush sit upon spongy, muddy, earth and a brook flows through it. A high retrieval is... well... good luck. I finally gave up; the first time I've ever lost a disc that I could see. But besides that, I was very pleased with this course's improvement over the past year and look forward to coming back (with oxygen).

My OTHER THOUGHTS from last year are as follows:

"I was very excited to come play here. It took a while to find where the actual course was, but it was a nice day so it didn't matter much. There's a map in the parking lot that is also a little hard to figure out if you're not from the area, but that's not a fault of the course. However, good luck finding any tees. From the farmhouse and parking lot, you can see a few baskets, but aside from 1 and 2, the baskets are also unlabeled. So really, good luck finding your way around.
This course could be very good with a few tweaks like markers and directions. But as is, I couldn't progress beyond hole 4 and I quit in frustration. I'd happily give it another chance because it has a LOT of potential.

Incidentally, everyone who keeps downvoting reviews that have something negative to say doesn't help this course to get any better. Examine courses with real teepads, real markers, and regular maintenance and you'll see that around here, many are only rated at 2.5 to 3 stars. The current rating of this course at 2.5 is very misleading."

THORNS GALORE! Wear Pants and Boots! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 30, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Great shot variety and use of tree/woods. This course provides gaps that are tight, but fair. There is a lane that you can see from the tee.
-With few exceptions, everything is birdy-able. Well placed drives will get you far on this course.
-With a map, this course is pretty easy to follow outside of the first few holes.
-Great hilly course with a nice scenic view.
-Good variety/challenge of uphill and downhill shots. whether you're a forearmer or backhander, you'll need good control of both your hyzer and anhyzer to get this course done right.
-I've only played this in early spring/winter, and at no point did I have trouble finding a disc. Watch it fly and you should be okay. A bad shot could get lost though.
-This is NOT a normal College course. It's not on campus and you don't ever have to worry about students or buildings.

Cons:

-The map and the course have the numbers labeled differently. The course in person has hole 1 labeled what this website has as hole 18. SO, you actually start on hole 2. In person Hole 2 should ABSOLUTELY be hole 1. It makes wayyyyy more sense. SO, don't sweat it if you start on hole 2 there, that's normal.
-No tee pads is a bummer. There are clear spots to throw from, but having that extra footing would help, especially on the uphill throws.
-THORNS GALORE! Seriously wear pants. If you're not in the fairway you're going to get bit by these plants at some point.
-No real chance to air it out here. Based off the hole numbers provided by this site, holes 12 and 14 (which is 13 and 15 by the course signs) are the only real chances for you to rip it. 12 has a major dog leg right, so it's more of a long, downhill placement shot.

Other Thoughts:

I really, really, really like this course. I would give it a higher rating if it was better kept. The fairways stay mowed in my 2 experiences, but there are a lot of thorns.

Hole 17 (18 by course tee signs) is a great challenging hole. About 380 down an open hill, but there's a steep drop off into water behind the basket. Really makes you control your drive instead of just ripping it as far as you can.

Mixed Feelings (Bear with me) 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 21, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Large amount of land
Not typically crowded
Good hike
Provides tricky shots

Cons:

Very overgrown
Small fairways
No tee boxes

Other Thoughts:

The first time I ever played this course was in March of 2012. At that time, the course had been fairly well maintained. The tee boxes were cleared and marked with signs that included maps. I played the course about once a year but never as a serious disc golfer. Now that I have started studying discs and play more regularly, I can safely say that I am ready to review this with what I know.

Also, keep in mind that I am a student at California and work closely with some of the guys who work on the farm. They are not the ones who are responsible for improving this course and though they know the layout well, they are not there to be tour guides. If you ask them about a hole, I know they will point you in the right direction.

I hope you find out some more information about the course and post any updates I find.

Here is a hole by hole analysis of the course. If you played this course more than 6 months ago, chances are that it has changed a little.

Hole 1:
This hole starts near the church on the main road. The tee box sits about 10 feet from the road. This hole provides for a decent sized fairway compared to other holes. It will also give you a taste of what is to come. The area outside of the fairway is high, very overgrown. The hole dips down hill then back uphill. This basket is what used to be the basket for the second hole.

Hole 2:
This hole takes a bit of a walk to get to. Follow the path to the left of the hole 1 basket and walk past the pavilion. There is not a tee box so I would recommend you play starting right at the wooden fence past the pavilion. This hole goes downhill, and the basket lies just past a very small stream in the center of a highly wooded area. Be careful on this one. The bushes are very thick and if you over throw a disc, you will have trouble getting it out. I have misplaced two so far and I still cannot locate the first.

Hole 3:
Follow the path and take a left. This hole requires a little backtracking. There is still a tee box for this hole and it is labeled hole 4. This is a wide open hole uphill. Very simple.

Hole 4:
You will see a path past the basket to hole 3. Follow this to the tee box. Again, this one will be labeled incorrectly saying 5. This is a tough hole. It is not very long but requires a very straight shot. If you hit it just right, you have the potential to ace it or put your disc right under the basket. If you hit it wrong, you could be in for some trouble. Watch your step going down the hill. It can be slippery.

Hole 5:
After hole 4, you will have a distance to go. Follow the path presented, and then wrap around the bend to the left and start hiking up the hill. Follow the tree line on the left and you will find the tee box labeled "Hole 6." The basket for this hole follows the tree line and then sharply cuts in left. It sits in the middle of a circle of trees.

Hole 6:
Get ready. This one is the first of your big uphill climbs. Walk up the hill (can be muddy) and then follow the path until you hit the next tee box sign. From the tee, you will not be able to see the basket. The fairway for this is very narrow. If you can keep it straight, shoot it up the fairway. Once you get to the top of the hill, it will open up and the basket will be right in front of you.

Hole 7:
Look across the field to the tree line. You will be able to see the next tee box. This hole follow down the tree line and shoots to the right through the trees. A lot of players pull up at the end of the fairway and if you hit it just right you will have a straight on shot for the basket.

Hole 8:
This is an easy hole. You will be able to see the basket from the tee box. It is straight up the hill with a decent fairway.

Hole 9:
This can be a tedious hole. If you can hit a shot low and straight you will be in the clear. If you happen to hit it a little left, you will be okay but still have to do a little searching to find your landing. If you hit it too far to the right, well, good luck. I lost a disc on this hole yesterday because I let it sail way too far to the right. Searched for about 30 minutes before giving up on it. It is a purple Boss in case anyone finds it. The basket for this hole is tough to see from the tee box but not impossible. It is underneath the trees at the end of the fairway.

Hole 10:
This will be the last time you have to climb up a hill. From here on out it is all downhill. Once you hit the tee box you will have a VERY narrow fairway. At the end of the fairway, the hill drops and the basket is a little to the right. DO NOT over shoot or throw it off to the right or left. This is a very difficult hole to find a disc on. The weeds are about waist high.

Hole 11:
This hole will follow along the tree line. You really want to hit this one right. If you try and over power it, you have a good chance of letting it glide down the hill.

Hole 12:
This is my most bittersweet hole. I love the challenge of putting it through the trees on one throw. The fairway goes straight down the hill. If you have played this course before, notice that the hole is in a different location. Once through the tree line, the basket shoots off to the right. My best recommendation, if you trust yourself enough, is to go through the tree line on your first throw. This will give you a good chance at making it an easy 3. Beware, the tree line you have to pass through is very thick. Many disc have been hung up in the vines or buried into parts that are unreachable.

Hole 13:
This is a calm hole. Just a little slant uphill. The basket is placed for strategy very close to a large tree. Keep this shot right of the tree and you should be able to put it in the basket in 2.

Hole 14:
LET IT RIP! This hole is one of the longest on the course. It is flat and deep. The basket lies in amongst the trees. Your approach is on a very open field. Once you get close to the basket, it gets a little tougher.

Hole 15:
This one can be tough. You will not be able to see the basket from the tee box. There is little to no fairway here as it is mostly just a dirt path. Once you get to the bottom of the path, the hole opens up and you can easily see the basket. Pushing a disc left is fine, but if you push it right you may never see it again. Beware of that.

Hole 16:
This is a fun one. Definitely more fit for the strategic player. The basket is not very easily seen from the tee box but you may be able to make it out. It would be tough to go directly down the middle on this hole so you should try and go left or right to wrap it around the trees.

Hole 17:
Everyone's favorite hole. Downhill about 300+ in an open field. Let it rip again.

Hole 18:
This was originally the first hole of the course. Now it is the last. You will have a small valley in front of you on this hole with a small stream running through. You should be able to put it pretty close to the basket on one throw.

This course is not perfect for beginners but its not impossible to complete. If not for the overgrowth, this would be the perfect course for anyone. You can enjoy a healthy hike, take in the scenery and play some disc golf. In the future I hope this course gets the TLC it deserves. It is a perfect location for students and people in the area that dont want to travel long distances.

I will be sure to post any updates I hear about.

Need a quad 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well it does have 18 holes and is in a scenic setting.

Cons:

Staff at the farm is uninterested in the course. I was trying to locate hole 1, as there was no course map, and asked the staff for direction. They sent me up the hill along the road where I located a tee box. Turned out this was hole 2 so I started there. Finished the hole and began looking for #3 tee. Located the basket but had no idea where the tee box was. Made up a tee box and lost my disk in thick brush loaded with poison ivy. This brings up my biggest beef with the course. Lots of thick brush an tall thick grass along narrow fairways. This course is probably playable during late fall and spring when the vegetation dies out but not during the summer months. Distance between hole 7&8 is way to far and requires a quad as it goes straight uphill. Did not play several holes as the risk of loosing a disk was to great. Nice view from 18 tee but did not finish the hole as my disk went far right down the hill into tall grass. Oh, guess what I found tee #1 as I finished. I think this course was designed by a mountain goat.

Other Thoughts:

I won't return to this course. They need to have some serious course maintenance.

When in Rome(or California, PA) 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 6, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

18 nice DGA baskets with some multiple natural tees. Decent tee signs and navigation was fairly easy. Challenges are mostly the elevation changes and wind or tall grass/rough in summer. Tons of elevation and nice scenic views from the top. In case of emergency, there are signs everywhere to contact.

Cons:

Lacks trees, but not necessarily nasty brush. Tall grass in the summer, I can only imagine the amount of mowing required. Hole 2 was missing due to construction, and I'm not sure how it would fit into the flow of the course without a complete backtrack.

Other Thoughts:

As an open level player from out of town passing by, the course is enough to scratch the itch. I love the elevation changes throughout the course, but the variety of other challenges are lacking as there's only two holes that really play through any kind of woods. There is some nasty brush near some of the baskets you don't want to go in. I'd consider this a decent beginner course. If you like wide open elevated tee shots varying from mostly short to a few longer par 3s, then this is the place for you.

OK to get a round in 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 27, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice DGA baskets
Very scenic.
Great for a good hike to get a little exercise.
If you live south of Pittsburgh it is one of two courses in the area.

Cons:

NO teepads and some of the angles of where you tee off make it nearly impossible to get power behind a drive.
Course is very unreliable as the upkeep in the summer seems to be void and it is nearly impossible to play without loosing a disc.
Cal construction seems to be taking over the course.

Other Thoughts:

This place eats discs in the summer but worth a play in the fall or early spring.

I like it....but losing a disc is a distinct possibility 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 5, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

I like the elevation changes. I usually play in Maryland and we don't have courses like this. Very peaceful setting. The fragrances from the variety of trees and wild flowers is especially pleasant. Most if the holes are medium length. Lots of tees are tucked away in treed alcoves. Views from the top are very nice. Good baskets and signage. Very few bugs surprisingly.

Cons:

The grass besides the fairway is anywhere from 1 to 3+ feet tall. If you rip a 200 ft.-300 ft throw and it tail a bit you could spend lots of time searching. There are also a couple of dense areas with thick thorn of rose and wild grape that can just swallow your disc. I don't mind the natural tees, but some are very un-level which can make it tough. Oh yeah, there is a ton of poison ivy in parts of this course. If you are allergic I be sure to where long pants.

Other Thoughts:

Overall I think this is a really fun course. Probably better when the leaves are down, and the grass is lower. I think it has decent variety. It's a good workout. Figure on about 1:00 - 1:20 for a twosome. Definitely the best college course I have played.

An Entire Course to Yourself 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 30, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Nice, newer tee signs
-Pretty, scenic view from the top of the hill
-Course is easy to find and easy to find successive holes
-Nice hike with the changes in elevation, but nothing strenuous
-I have only seen a few other people play while I was there, so it often feels like I have the course to myself
-Peaceful, course is entirely set off on it's own (minus one house between holes 6 and 7)
-Course map if you need it
-Recent additions of many benches and trash cans
-Great course for beginners

Cons:

-Ample amount of thorn bushes in the rough
-Tees are natural, and not at all established. Someone made an effort to spray paint tee lines a few weeks ago, but those quickly faded away. Tee areas can get muddy
-Holes are open and repetitive, so not a lot of variables or challenges
-No bathroom, so you'll have to go in the woods (if that bothers you)
-Only really two throws that I can completely gun it. But one of them (18) is downhill so I sometimes overthrow it. Even the more open shots, I can't exactly let them rip.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 1- You have to throw over a little stream, which you can't perfectly see from the tee, making it more interesting. Hyzer (RHBH) shot.

Hole 2- Wide open straight-ahead shot that throws through a line of trees right before the hole.

Hole 3- Anhyzer shot that throws back over the stream. Again, you can't see exactly where it is, causing some challenge.

Hole 4- The tee position was recently changed. Straight up a hill, boring shot. Used to be an anhyzer around some brush, making it a little harder.

Hole 5- Once again, a shot over the little stream. Short hole, throw straight and you're fine, easy hole in two shots. Throw to the left or right and you are in the thorn bushes.

Hole 6- Typical open hyzer, hole is behind brush.

Hole 7- Slight uphill shot.

Hole 8- Anhyzer shot, with a thick treeline/shrubline to the right. A small opening which you throw through.

Hole 9- Another open, uphill shot.

Hole 10- Open straight shot with hole surrounded by a few trees.

Hole 11- Open shot with hole on the downhill. Tree line to the right.

Hole 12- Open anhyzer shot.

Hole 13- Open shot with massive tree lines to the right and right before the hole. There is an opening in the corner of the two tree lines. Best chance to lose a disc on this course is here, with the thick thornbushes to in that bottom corner, toward the right.

Hole 14- Open shot.

Hole 15- Another open shot, longest hole on the course. Says a par 3 at the course and on here is a par 4.

Hole 16- Anhyzer shot, probably the thinnest line on the course, along with 17.

Hole 17- Two different lines to throw.

Hole 18- As previously noted, this hole could have been placed a lot further away from the tee, making it a great challenge. However, I love the top-of-the-hill shots, so I still enjoyed in.

Favorite holes for me are 1, 2, 3, 7, 15, and 18. A lot of repetition in this course though.

Harvard on the Mon 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 19, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Players of all skill levels can play
- Nice workout climbing the hill
- Pretty view from the top of the farm
- Nice new baskets
- 18 Holes

Cons:

- Very uneven tee spots, some dangerously so
- Many holes have the same feel, making the course seem bland at times
- Mostly wide open shots
- Tends to favor RHBH

- Updated 12/30/16: This course seems to have largely been left to go wild. The overgrowth is super thick and thorny and many of the shots have tightened up with painful consequences. Some tee signs are missing and the paths thru the early 4 holes are unclear as the new buildings caused some changes. All in all it really downgraded the experience.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 1 - Wide open side/up hill shot, pretty farm buildings

Hole 2 - Nice longer Par 3, wide open

Hole 3 - Interesting RHBH Hyzer into a cutout around a pretty stream, wide open

Hole 4 - Terrible short uphill hole, wide open but you throw over bushes

Hole 5 - Nice little short straight ace run into a pocket across the pretty stream. Nice old cast iron bathtub next to the bridge

Hole 6 - Ugly little side/uphill toss, wide open till the end. Clearing out some of the thorny scrub brush but leaving the trees near the basket would help this hole.

Hole 7 - Ugly side/uphill toss, wide open shot. The wind comes off the top of the mountain here so disc get pushed way left on RHBH.

Hole 8 - Nice little sharp right turn around a mando tree. This is one of the more memorable holes.

Hole 9 - Wide open, medium length uphill and the beginning of a bland stretch where you throw the same disc over and over again.

Hole 10 - Wide open, side/up hill, nice tree by the basket, use the same disc from the last hole

Hole 11 - Wide open off the top of the hill, pretty view, same disc as before

Hole 12 - Still using the same disc, medium length nice gradual right turn. Painful bushes block the right side of the fairway.

Hole 13 - Downhill, should be a different disc but the throw down let's you continue to keep throwing the same one you have been using for awhile. Open till the end where you fit it through some trees.

Hole 14 - Last of the "same disc" holes. Wide open with a nice old tree by the basket, power down that disc you have been throwing for awhile now.

Hole 15 - Finally a chance to really air out a disc. Wide open, let your big disc rip. Nice old trees guard the basket.

Hole 16 - A very nice hole. Nice little RHBH anhyzer or RHFH shot down a tunnel-ish opening to a basket tucked right.

Hole 17 - Two paths at this basket, could be a touch longer, but nice to throw and stay in the woods.

Hole 18 - This should be an awesome hole where you get to just hammer a big disc down hill but the basket is totally in the wrong spot which stops you from being able to really rip into it. The basket ought to be much further down the hill on the right (closer to the little fenced in area), making it an 800 foot or so Par 4 instead. Missed opportunity in course design.

Very nice course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 25, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Plenty of space to make a nice course with lots of elevation changes. They have a nice variety of short holes that force you to navigate through the the woods around the farm. They also use the open fields well to let you open up and throw a little. Nice signs make navigation around this course pretty easy.

Cons:

Not a lot of chances to really rip big drives. Hole 15 was the only chance to really get behind a drive. Natural tees, which usually aren't bad. Some of the tees didn't seem to give much room to throw fro level ground.

Other Thoughts:

Solid course for both beginners and seasoned veterans.

Go Vulcans! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is not your typical campus course. For one, it's not on CalU's campus; rather, it's on a secluded farm owned and maintained by the university's student association. As such, it lacks the hustle, bustle, crowds, obstacles, and design limitations that many campus courses present while also providing some elevation, length, and shot selections that many campuses cannot provide.

- Signage on each hole, "next tee" arrows on the baskets, a nice info kiosk with a map, benches on some holes on the back nine--all that good course amenity stuff except tees (see cons).

- Nice terrain; scenic and pretty! I want to come back in the peak of the autumn foliage, as I think the views and colors would be excellent.

- The course essentially goes up (mostly on front nine) and down (mostly on back nine) a series of big hills. While there aren't any real true wooded holes besides 5 and 17, many shots require splitting gaps in treelines or finding an occasional anny or hyzer route around big farm trees.

- Decent balance of lefty/righty dogleg shots, but a good majority are just straight shots.

- Two holes stick out in my mind:
1.) #15 = a 505' par 3 (yes, par 3!) drive with the basket protected by a line of trees. Definitely par-able if you have a big arm and can navigate the trees to the pin. A very cool hole and I wish the course had more of these!

#18 = A nice memorable end to your round with a 300+' wide open drive downhill to the basket. IMO, the hole would be super amazing if it were twice as longer and had a little bit of a tree-lined fairway to contend with. You know, like another PASSHE school's 18th hole ;)

Cons:

- One of the biggest cons is the lack of teepads. I kind of understand why they don't want to put concrete down, but the grass/dirt tees are hard to drive off--especially considering that many holes go up or downhill.

- With the exception of hole #15, I wish some of the holes were longer to give big arm throwers more opportunities to grip-n-rip. A 600-700 downhill drive would be amazing here. Not sure if safety was a consideration in course design, but it's a shame if they had to sacrifice distance for that.

- Course isn't particularly challenging as many holes are wide open, relatively short, and don't have crazy lines to the basket. I'd recommend this as a good beginner course though and still enjoyable for more seasoned players.

- Nasty nasty nasty briars and other undergrowth along the course in spots. I think every species of vegetation that can cut up your legs is along the fairways. Hole 12 in particular can be a disc eater, so watch your drive.

Other Thoughts:

Hate to compare this course so much to IUP's College Lodge, but the two schools are rivals, after all. The clear winner of the disc golf Coal Bowl is IUP, but CalU's course can still put up a few touchdowns.

I really enjoyed my round out here. Beginners have a nice course to practice and develop their shots and more advanced players can really rack up the birdies and go for ace runs. If more holes were like #15 and there were more wooded ones, it would be a phenomenal place to play.

Going to California 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 11, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

I liked the property that the Disc Golf course inhabits, Very hilly with baskets placed in very strategic positions (Though I only saw one basket placement per hole).

trash cans present throughout the course.

For whatever reason, there we're plenty of signs with Emergency contacts thru out the course.

What little liter there was, I picked it up along my way :)

Cons:

Some of the fairways are only 8 foot wide ( 0ver 150 ft long, playing for the first time here by myself presents major issues) if that with tall thick grass/weeds "el natural" being the rough.

The path leading to hole # 7 was filled in with briars/ thick overgrowth (Go around to your right and follow brush line to tee # 7 instead of trying to find path)

uneven, Dirt tees

Most of the holes we're short in length, and some back tracking from basket to the next tee is present (but not a major issue).

Not enough benches.

Other Thoughts:

I really thought that if this course had decent/ fair fairways it would get more play, but the day I was there was no one was around, and the weather wasn't all that bad to keep someone away from playing on a Saturday afternoon. Not a whole lot of parking, but since there isn't many players I guess that's not an issue. I didn't see any portable restrooms, So I guess one might have to use the woods. Beautiful park, Beautiful scenery. I had to pay toll charges to get from Pittsburgh to California, but the turnpike roads we're near perfect for traveling conditions, so I don't have any issues paying a toll charge, and wouldn't mind paying a toll charge or entry fee to play this course if the fairways we're wider.

New Course-New Challenges 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 11, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Lots of Land; built on 90+ acre farm
-Decent Elevation change; some bomber holes, some finesse holes and some strategy holes.
-Very peaceful, one you make it to the upper part of the course it's just you, nature and DG

Cons:

-Tee's not installed yet (will be fly-18 pads when installed)
-Tee Signs not done
-Some wooded ares still "rough

Other Thoughts:

This is the first season of the new course; it has only really been playable since the end of Aug. Plans are for Tee's to be installed in Spring and Tee signs should be finished within a few weeks. Course has a lot of potential and is a lot of fun...and for people in the area it's nice not to have to make the hour drive to Pittsburgh to play.
