Great course with great community support! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 3, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Thoughtful course layout challenges all skill levels and player types. Some elevation changes on a few holes, but mostly flat, allowing you to easily get in multiple rounds without exhaustion setting in. League members and volunteers redesigned the layout in 2015, changing up 9 holes and making use of previously uncharted land to add 4 new lengthy holes in the back of the park. There are now 2 par 4's, a rock-mounted basket, a hanging basket, and several new benches and tables to take a rest as you enjoy your day.

Cons:

While tee-pads were upgraded to newer rubber, they can still be a bit slick during winter and wet rounds. Usually there is plenty of space on the side of pad to throw in these cases. The local community of league players is working with the town to upgrade the pad surfaces again this year with a better rubber material. Stay tuned!

Other Thoughts:

Overall a great course with a great community playing there and maintaining it. It has come a LONG way since it was first established 10 years ago or so. If you haven't played it recently, you probably haven't played it at all. I help run the league that plays Tuesday nights @ 5:30 pm from spring to fall. Come out and play a round with us!

muldoon rocks!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 30, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

over the course of the summer the locals have updated this course with a bunch of new holes, all really well designed. it alleviated some of the congestion and strange overlapping that made the course somewhat confusing, and a little dangerous. some of the holes that are gone I do not miss. some were ok! but all in all im really happy with all the new holes and the playability remains the same or better.
a great variety of throws are required ... short and long accuracy and skills are tested.
free to play!
quality baskets !
not much trash!
friendly locals!
no pedestrians!

Cons:

slick rubber teepads, collect water in some places and in our case , were covered with either sand, or ice making us play from
next to them. which is ok but on some lines even a couple feet to the side changes the throw. this is the only weak link for the course.

Other Thoughts:

one of my favorites in the area. not as many trees as most other courses of this style in the area. it is still tricky but definitely not as tight as say, the hollows, or Bellamy.
a great course made better by recent redesign.

Really clean course (i.e., no visible trash), well marked, and clearly a lot of work has gone into removing wood, brush, etc. Didn't get lost once or lose a disc!

Cons:

Tee signs are mixed; hard to tell where basket is from the tee.

Too many bugs in July, c'mon where is the insect spray dispenser!!

Nice Little Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 30, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The course is well maintained. The baskets are still in good shape. Most holes have makable lines with only one hole being very narrow from the tee box..

Cons:

The tees are rubber matting. They aren't terriible by any means. Baskets 2 and 3 are easily confused so you need to pay attention to the arrows on fairway trees. Holes 5-7 are a bit crisscrossed but signage is good. Holes 6 and 17 two of the longest holes can be a challenge.

Other Thoughts:

Overall a very fun course. For I now call it my home course until Mnachester finishes their course.

My Home Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 3, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

First off let me say that I consider this my home course. It is the course I learned on. I love it. After my first year of experience this course still challenges me. Exceptional holes include the downhill ace run excitement of hole ten; The new layout for hole seventeen is a par four with an awesome wide open landing zone which transitions to a a tight fairway for the last 200 feet; hole four throws over a pit of dispair (with plenty of large pines to deflect your better shots into said pit); hole six is another fun par four with a generous landing zone, several particularly annoying guardian trees and a tight entryway into the final 150. While trouble is easy to come by, the course offers many opportunities to shine. Par is 56. The current course record of 45 indicates the wealth of holes where you can get one back.

Cons:

Hole 7 - after a year I have no solution. I've even parked shots for a drop in birds but I still don't like it. No toilets. Not particularly beautiful.

Other Thoughts:

I have not tired of this course after a year. I've done well on every hole and had meltdowns on most (probably all).

At its best in 2016 Summer! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 22, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Good for beginners, still somewhat challenging for advanced players. Constant design improvements since Spring '14. Just played again in Summer '16. Even better than ever. Visual target from box, fewer tree obstacles, just better course overall. Love love love it.

Cons:

Buggy due to wet lands during mid-late summer. Can be a lil' crowded at times. No public toilet boxes.

Other Thoughts:

If you haven't visited this course after April '14, please play it again. There are now loads of improvements. If you have already rated this course, play again and raise your ranking accordingly as you see fit. The improvements are THAT much better. We converted from meh about this course to now one of our top favorites.

Short and fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 20, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Muldoon is a great little course in a relatively course-less part of New England.
-Rubber tee pads on every hole. Most were level as well.
-Clean and well defined fairways. No real pinball holes.
-Lots of signage directing you where to go, and decent and helpful tee signs
-Ace runs galore!
-Free to play

Cons:

-Tight and compact. A lot of the fairways butt up right against each other.
-12 holes under 300 ft. All but 2 holes are deuce-able I'd say.
-Chains are showing some rust and wear on the DISCatchers, including one that had already broke.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, Muldoon is a fun course, but it lacks challenge. I enjoyed getting out there and would certainly play it again, but the short holes can get repetitive after a while. There's just not many opportunities to bust out your bigger discs. Great course for practicing your short game though.

Fun Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 6, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

It's a fun course with a lot of narrow holes with a good variety of challenges that include water (in the spring and summer on two holes), trees and brush on and off the fairway, etc. With 18 holes and a couple of friends it can take over an hour. The course has been better marked recently and flows pretty well. The community and the league that play there are all very friendly

Cons:

The course layout was changed in the past years (before I played) and from what I heard it fixed some of the fairways crossing each other causing unsafe play. However, a few holes you still need to exercise caution where you are throwing

Other Thoughts:

The course is worth a visit and utilizes the space they have very well.

Muldoon Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 3, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

18 Holes of free disc golf in a nice scenic park. Discatcher baskets are easy to see. Good solid mix of left and right hand turning holes. Most of course is flat, but whatever elevation was there is well utilized. Fairways challenging but no pinball holes. Maintained rather nicely for the summer. Other amenities available. Starts and ends very close together, always a plus in my book. I like 11 the most, but 6 is a nice challenge.

Cons:

The chains on the baskets are somewhat rusty. As is they are okay but probably should be replaced as soon as funds are available. Tees for the most part were dry, considering the rain we've had recently, but have dips and so a full run-up is harder without twisting your ankle. A few places could have benefitted from better signage.

Other Thoughts:

Not a destination course, but in an area pretty devoid of disc golf overall and not too far from either 93 or 3, it is a good place to stretch and play 18 without taking a lot of time. It took me 1:10 to play the whole course.

Worth checking out 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 15, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Muldoon is a free course located in a city park/athletic field complex in southern New Hampshire. It's about what you'd expect from a free course owned by a small community. I feel that it's in better shape than other free courses in the state (Pinnacle comes to mind). This is a fairly technical course that tests your mid range and fairway game. For me, there is also opportunities to throw distance drivers, though not everybody may feel that way. The signage is basic but it's informative and helpful. They make very good use of a small patch of land. The baskets are in good shape and the course requires a mix of shots and has varying lengths. It takes a few rounds to find what shots work as some holes have multiple lines and various obstacles to contend with. I enjoy playing this course and it's usually a relaxing and quiet day on the trails. The practice basket and ability to use the fields adds to the courses appeal.

Cons:

The most glaring setback to Muldoon is that the teepads are in rough shape. When the frost thaws from a cold morning they can be downright sloppy and I have fallen on the second tee. Some will complain about the short "awkward" lengths of a few holes but I enjoy the challenge and think of it as an approach shot from the tee. Birdies require well placed shots and can be made on almost any hole. Unfortunately, some people feel the need to leave their trash and it reflects very poorly on the disc golf community. Because the lot of land is small some fairways are very close and caution needs to exercised in a few areas of the course.

Other Thoughts:

For a state scarcely populated with disc golf courses Muldoon is a welcome haven for disc golfers in the greater Manchester area. I would LOVE to see somebody put a course near Manchester and believe it would do well since it's a most populated city in the state.

Pros:

Good Challenge for most players. Easy Parking. Lots of trees/shade on sunny days. Overall a fun course.

Cons:

Lots of woods, bring insect repellent. Some of the tee boxes are a bit bumpy but still usable.

Other Thoughts:

Signage is not completely accurate but the course is still evolving. Much better than a few years ago where the front 9 was easy and the back 9 was tough. Hole 1 is no longer the hole behind the baseball field. The basket is still there as a practice basket only. The first hole is now near the playground by the nature trails.

New Layout - June 24 2012 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 2, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

New Layout on holes 15 - 16. Holes no longer cross (hazard). New layout adds some extremely difficult (and much needed) length to the course. The new 15 would reasonably be a par 4, over 500 ft with some extremely varied terrain. Tight technical course overall.

Cons:

No benches, no trashcans, only 1 set of tee boxes. Tee boxes could use some work. They are mostly hard pack earth, which tends to develop uneven holes over time. Course can be frustrating for beginners. While many of the holes are easily pared/birdied with experience, the tight wooded fairways do not lend themselves well to new players learning. Off the fairway is often very wooded, making recovery near impossible. This should thin out as the course gets more use.

Other Thoughts:

This course has generated a strong core of players recently. Tags is now being played twice weekly. The new course redesign and improvements are very good and I expect the improvements to continue.

Muldoon Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 25, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Neutral hole design (LHBH, RHBH, and sidearm shots required)
Interesting holes (9 and 10)
Maximizing use of minimal space.
Relatively easy to find from 93.
New course layout increases distances and is much more interesting.
Seemingly built for lefty thumbers.

Cons:

Tight, overly technical fairways, if your line is errant, expect difficult recovery shots.
Most shots are flex shots, either make your disc helix or miss the line.
Many holes are on top of one another, e.g. 14,15,16. However it was not crowded so it is tough to say if this is a problem.

Other Thoughts:

This is a course that is a solid place to play, it's not on my top 10 but it is absolutely worth stopping by. Muldoon park will reward technical shots, and only technical shots, leave your high speed drivers in the car. If you want to avoid this predicament on many holes throw overhand, it will bring you over the trees and to the basket.

Wow, what an improvement! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 22, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great tee signs and fairway markers helping locate the baskets. Good use of the land. Pretty good flow from hole to hole. Fun technical course.

Cons:

Some tee boxes were in rough shape, they really need to be filled in and smoothed out. Criss-crossing fairways on 15 and 16 caused backups. There were a few holes that could use better paths to the next tee, I think 14 was one were you had to walk onto 14s fairway and go down to the tee box, this caused backups.

Other Thoughts:

Reminds me of Devens, but with tighter fairways. Bring bug spray! I was getting eaten alive by mosquitoes and it is only March. Better tee boxes would definitely push this up to a 3 for me.

The course was revamped this past year. Roy D. put alot of effort adding length and difficulty to this course. The tee signs are brand new and well done. This is one of the closest to me and i play weekly in the summer. If you havevt played Muldoon recently than you havent played Muldoon at all.

Cons:

Tee boxes are ruff and need work. Trash is scattered (pick some up if you play plz) Other than that its a friendly course with all different shots required to be successful.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 25, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A nice mix of different types of holes so you can practice shooting in lots of situations. The course is easy to follow and loops back nicely to where you started. Muldoon Park is in a clean quiet community and there are fields where you can practice driving and there is an extra target where you can practice putting. They have put a lot of work into this course recently and if you haven't played there in the last month, you should give it another chance.

Cons:

The fairways of 15 and 16 criss-cross one another and the fairways of 7 and 8 don't have much buffer between them. There is also a lot of dense undergrowth on this course so either pack a machete or play conservatively.

Other Thoughts:

This is my home course - it's about 4 miles from my front door - so I have a real soft spot for it. I would like to see better tee pads, trash bags/cans at every hole, superficial stuff like that.

Successful Redesign 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 16, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

What this course lacks in distance (very few holes over 300') it more than makes up for with creative hole design. There are very few holes that give players a straight look at the basket. Instead, curving fairways and well placed trees force you to consider every shot carefully.

Most holes offer multiple equally fair routes. So there is very little bias to one style over another.

Although the park can be quite crowded on weekends and evenings in the summer, the disc golf course stays relatively quiet. The course is built along walking trails, so there is some non-disc golf use of the space. But most walkers are aware of the course and make an effort to stay out of the way of players.

When the athletic fields are not in use, they are a great space for field practice.

Some nice signage was recently added. Distance, par, and a nice hole diagram at each tee.

Cons:

The natural tee pads need some work. The ones made by 4x4s arranged in a square need to either be filled in or dug into the ground. Many tees are filled with roots making run-ups difficult.

Navigation can be a little tricky. There are some basic signs marking each tee number nailed to trees. If you keep your eye on those, you should be able to find your way around just fine.

There is a lot of trash. It's clear the park maintainers don't make much effort to venture into the trails for cleanup. A few trash cans could really help alleviate that problem.

There is a bit of overlap. The basket in view from the second tee is actually the third basket. If a group ahead is putting, you're throwing right at them. If you wait for them to clear, then they're throwing back at you since the fourth basket is right next to the second tee. And hole 15 just doesn't fit. The basket for 14 is just as close to 16's tee as it is to 15. The problem is that 16 then plays right back over the tee for 15. The good news is that this course is not very crowded, so this will rarely be an issue. But if activity picks up, it could become a big problem.

There needs to be quite a bit of work done to clear out underbrush. It is very thick with very little way out. If you get off the fairway even by a foot or two, it is tough to save par. Even good shots can be punished by sitting behind a tree clump close to the pin.

Other Thoughts:

There has been significant work done to this course in the summer of 2011 (keep this in mind when reading other reviews). This course has definitely found an identity as a line shaping test. The more weapons (shot types) you have in your arsenal, the more success you will have here.

Bring bug spray. There are a couple ponds that attract mosquitoes and they can be bad if you're not protected.

Hole 1 is no longer the hole behind the baseball field. The basket is still there as a practice basket only. The first hole is now by the playground in the nature trails.
