Great Driving Practice 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

In general , a decently-laid out course that offers plenty of practice for long drives with wide-open fairways. There are a few shorter holes that offer potential birdies, while the second to last hole (#8) is well over 500 ft. away. The t-pads are concrete and there are maps at each t-off. The pads, maps, and baskets are all well-maintained. #5, a somewhat blind shot that goes back towards a little creek and behind a clump of trees, is a good challenge.

Cons:

In high wind this course is virtually unplayable. Obviously, there are only 9 holes. The final hole was poorly designed. Nearly every time I've played, somebody has tossed a disc into the dense hedge or over the fence into a yard full of maintenance equipment.

Other Thoughts:

This course is fun on a calm (or low-wind) day when you want to play a non-technical round and keep a game under an hour. It's a great place to air it out on your drives and test your power. Side note: In the summer, the Purple Martins that live by the course are very entertaining to watch.

A good warm up for the HAWK 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 18, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course has nice baskets that catch well and the grounds were well maintained. The tee signs provided the necessary info.
The tee pads here are plenty long and allow for a proper run up.
Your rounds should play quickly here. There is a good mix of short and moderate length holes.
This is a good place for a beginner to learn the game and its a good place for more advanced players to work on their mid range game.
Some of the holes will have ACE RUN potential. The threat of disc loss is pretty low, depending on if the draw has water in it and if the island area around 4's basket is dry.
Hole 8 has some length and is a good place to air out your favorite driver.
The semi elevated tee on #9 was nice as well.

Cons:

Many of the holes are wide open so wind will definitely factor in . There won't be a lot of shade for those hot summer days. The road and parking lot could come into play on the first 2 holes, so be careful. A couple of signs had some damage to them upon my visit.
No trash cans(except at #4's tee) or benches.
The walk between some baskets to the next tee are a tad lengthy and will slow the flow down a bit. Not much shot variety here.
The row of cedar trees that used to be on hole #4 which had a gap that needed to be hit has been removed. This completely changes this hole and just makes it bland, IMO.

Other Thoughts:

If you like an open course where you can work on your driving skills with the wind factoring in then this is your kind of course. If you prefer a shorter course that has more lines that need to be hit then head over to Thresher National at Bethel College. If you want the complete package then head out to Camp Hawk.
This isn't a bad course and it is a good entry level 9 holer, it just needs more shot variety for the more advanced skilled player.

Cool little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 28, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

I liked this course. Helped me finally get under course par. What's not to like? Brand new baskets! its easy, fast and can stroke your ego! great for beginners. I have to give it a very good rating.

Cons:

would help to have another tee box placement, so you can go another 9 in a different manner.

Other Thoughts:

If I lived in Newton, I would be playing here or Peabody, or even a short trip to hazernaut... Camp hawk was falling in disrepair and I was more frustrated playing there than here. Local club really needs to clean up Hawk..I played there 2 hours and saw NO ONE,,,came to centennial and 6 players were playing there on a weekday afternoon.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 10, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

It is not busy. Disc golfers will typically have plenty of time and space to throw. Course designers did the most they could with an area that does not many obstacles or elevation changes. This can be very nice for players just beginning.

Cons:

It is boring and has heavy winds. The baskets are usually located around a tree or two but drives are almost always open. Not only does this hurt the challenge element but it allows winds to come across the fairways at 20 mph consistently

Drive across town instead 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 6, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Pros of the course are simple.

It has cement tees and manufactured baskets. It is a good place to practice but kind of dull to play.

Cons:

Cons of the course are many. The holes are boring. The flow is lacking. There are some dangerous holes to play while others are playing, the playground off 2 could be a big hazard in a headwind.

Other Thoughts:

I have lived in Newton for several months and have only played this park once. I would rather drive across town and play Camp Hawk. It has a much better shot variety and is much more fun to play.

Centennial Park DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 17, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Legit tee pads/baskets. For a course in a fairly open park, there is a surprising amount of diversity in the 9 holes. There are some shots which require finesse, as well as a good number of wide open shots which test your distance. When the course is dry, especially in the spring, the view is spectacular - long grass outside of the fairways present a look of a well-manicured course, and it really is a pleasure to walk through the nice scenery.

Cons:

Only 9 holes, but you can play it twice if you want to. I played after some heavy rainfall in the area, and a few areas of the course were damp to the point of swampy. I imagine this would not be an issue most of the time, and it just added another challenge.

Other Thoughts:

The course is located in a region of the park which does not see much traffic, so us golfers are out there pretty much alone. It is a nice little course if you are in the area. This course is worth a trip, but don't expect to be wowed with perfectly manicured fairways. But overall, a nice course, especially in late spring and summer when it is dry.
