The Rock Creek temp course combines the best of both worlds between the other two courses at Cedarock park. The front nine is open and full of bombers while the back nine is wooded and follows a the creek.

The atmosphere of the course is amazing; you have open rolling hills and a lot of beautiful holes that run parallel with the creek. It's quiet and secluded on the back part of the course as well.

The layout for the temp course is very well done, they picked the best possible holes out of the land left in the park. None of the holes seemed forced in there and there's a good balance in terms of hole layouts.

Although the front nine is more open and longer it's not just a bunch of super long holes, it's nicely balanced with some shorter open shots in there. The bomber holes on the front are really fun, you have a lot of room to let them rip. The back nine is balanced nicely as well by throwing in a couple longer holes.

None of the holes are extremely difficult, it's a very fair course for even lower level players although to shoot low you'll need very solid drives.

The course will test your game to throw accurate and low drives on both hyzers and annys on the back nine; as well as avoiding the creek which runs along side many of the holes. The rough is very thick on the course which is good because you should be punished for missing the fairways.

The greens are very nicely placed, even the open holes have guarded baskets and a lot of the time the basket is tucked in an area which will require you to really maneuver your drives for birdies.

Even though the course is long and taxing it's really fun and not one of those that punishes you to death. If it were up all the time I'd make my way out to Cedarock Park more often.

A majority of the cons of the course come from its temporary status.

The teepads are either grass or rocks; the grass is fine but the rocks are annoying but necessary because of the ground around the creek. There are no trashcans, tee signs or benches around the course which again comes from its temp status.

On the back nine during the spring the bugs are really bad, bring bug spray. Not sure how it is during the fall. The ticks are really bad all over the course, I found multiple ticks on me after every round I played. I also saw a few black snakes on the property and heard there were some copperheads.

Also, due to them having to use a large area of the park for the layout there are some pretty long walks on the front nine.

The maintenance crew at Cedarock Park did a hell of a job getting the course ready for the tournament. Not something you'd really expect from a temp course.

If Rock Creek were permanent it would hands down be the best course there but it being open only twice a year almost makes it even better.

I highly recommend hitting this course in either of the two weeks its open or playing in either tourney (Alamance Pro/Am & Sneaky Pete)

This course has a good variance of open bomber holes, valley shots, a couple of tighter woods fairways and riskier fairways (presence of OB) & pins. It showcases the beautiful land that the park is on and provides a different view than what the permanent courses on the site offer.
Great pin placements - most holes require a different shot in your arsenal along with riskier putting greens - I would guess half of the putting greens either are nestled next to a tree or on a slope/ridge.
DISCatcher baskets - they are portable, but high quality.

Most the cons I listed are due to the course being temporary, so take that into consideration.
The course flow is a bit interrupted, since there are a very long walks in between a few holes.
Many of the wooded holes have low ceilings - again, likely due to being a temp course and traffic being minimal.
There are no next tee signs and the pads are natural (and was expected) - that said, there were markings on the grass to tell you where the next hole was and most of the natural pads were level - just a couple of uneven ones.
The holes along Rock Creek are very buggy, so bring spray.

Keep in mind that this is a temp course and the park is utilized for many activities other than disc golf - many of the fairways are along a camping area and utilized by bikers, hikers and horse riding.
There is a possibility of this course, or some variant of it, being installed permanently in Cedarock Park. The park is already a destination course with Cedarock Park and Wellspring on site, and this course would put it over the top.
This course is not for the timid - long walks, long drives/fairways - definitely suited for the advanced-level player.
The course has gone through a couple of changes from other installations - the distances and layout provided is for the 2012 Alamance Pro/Am (example is #5 used to be longer - as if it needed to be).
Water comes into play on #1 (start out your day with a birdie, since there aren't many options) and along the wood holes (#12 through #17).
The course is installed for the week of April 29, 2012. The Alamance Pro/Am is May 5 and 6. The course should be installed again (although layout might vary) for the Sneaky Pete, which takes place in late September.
A good litmus test to determine how good a course was, is to not shoot well and still rate it high. I enjoyed every aspect of it and am disappointed I will not be able to play the Pro/Am to experience it again...might need to get in a round during the week .
