A lot of potential, but needs an overhaul 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 25, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Some challenging holes that can be satisfying to beat
- Easy to find, park, and play

Cons:

- Ridiculously close to parking, fences, and areas where people are picnicking, playing other sports, or hiking/riding
- On some holes you literally have to wait to shoot through traffic on the bike/walking trail
- No tee pads, just yellow tee posts with broken house numbers. Tee posts are completely missing from holes #4 and #6
- Numerous hidden baskets-- you'll frequently have to tee off blindly the first time you play
- Current map on DGCR is very inaccurate. Map date is currently from 2012, and this course has apparently undergone a remodel since then
- Some real long walks between baskets and the next tees

Other Thoughts:

You'll have to play very conservatively on some of these holes to keep from bonking innocent bystanders. Hard to lose a disc here, except for over some very close fences. Since this course winds through the park in-between softball diamonds and around tight corners, it could really stand to use some hole maps on the tee. Probably a quarter of the walking I did on my round here was just looking for the basket or the next tee. This course has a lot of easily-realized potential for players who don't mind crowded spaces.

Decent Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 17, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice baskets.
Good chance of distance.
Obvious where to throw.

Cons:

Easy to lose disc.
Not fun to play.
Long grass.

Other Thoughts:

I wouldn't play here very often. Every once in a while it is okay but having this in my home town, it gets played once or twice a season.

A tough challenge, more long shots 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 6, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Longer shots than other course in town
Quiet and peaceful course

Cons:

Holes placed in random spots and simply doesn't have a fun or friendly feel to it.

Other Thoughts:

We are very blessed to have two courses in this small town. Children's Park is the favorite but this adds a different challenge if you play both.

Interesting Use of Land 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 2, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Great length and a very creative use of tight spaces.
- Good baskets.

Cons:

- A few of the holes are WAY too close to other park uses. Such as Hole 1...shoe-horned in between a tall fence and a parking lot. Lots of problems just waiting to happen with that hole (Hole 2 should probably have been the first hole on the course).

Other Thoughts:

Played a lot longer/tougher than I expected before I arrived. A good workout, where one has to bring their A/B game off the tee, approaching, and putting, to do any positive damage on the scorecard.

Open Space is Right 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 15, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

-A chance for a few aces
-Tees are marked
-Nice, new baskets
-Plenty of things to do at this community center/park and you have bathrooms, garbages, etc.
-A few holes that you really have to curve left or right.
-A decent variety in length although nothing is too long.
-You shouldn't lose a disc here- I'm not saying you can't
-Good for teaching beginners the game or working on shorter drives, approaches, or putts. You could play this course in 20-30 minutes if you wanted to

Cons:

-Like I said, this is a multi use park and there could be people everywhere depending on time of day and what events are happening.
-The course does not loop around and the 9th hole is significantly far from the parking lot near the 1st hole.
-The first two holes use obstacles that I don't like, namely fences. Also, the second pin is on a strip of grass about 2 feet wide and if you miss you hit sidewalk or parking lot which can scuff up your disc.
-No elevation, very flat.
-Some of the holes just aren't very fun, the back half is certainly more fun than the first couple of holes. The first couple are open or have annoying but not fun obstacles.
-Tees are natural which isn't a problem yet on this new course but it could be if this course gets a lot of traffic
-Some of the back holes are tucked in pretty close to pine trees so you might get scraped and sapped up attempting to get your disc back.

Other Thoughts:

This course is alright. It will be good for getting beginners into the game as it is in a high traffic park. I would play the Sioux Center DGC before this course. I wouldn't come to this course intentionally to play but if you are in the area you might as well play here.
