great finished course as of 2019 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 3, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great course to learn to love the game. Wooded first 7 along w holes 17, 18. Trees planted along "open" holes so the second half of the course will be much more exciting than it is at the moment.

Cons:

Next to a waste water plant so it smells from time to time. And floods when it rains heavy. Holes 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 and maybe some others become unplayable when it floods.

Other Thoughts:

Great course for people to fall in love with the game at. Challenging enough to be fun. And I\'m excited for the trees to grow on the second half of the course. Not super advanced course but fun nonetheless and my favorite part of town as a local of rushville. Says it\'s a par 58 but it\'s a par 59. Hole 16 is a par 4 not a par 3

Big Change from Prior Reviews 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 8, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

(Updated 1/11)
-Previous reviews mentioned some holes were unavailable, but all 18 baskets are in and playable.
- Nice Mach 5 baskets and concrete teepads.
- Course flows smoothly and the pin for 18 is just a handful of yards from teepad 1
-First 6 and last 2 are wooded and offer challenging lines.
-Plenty of open holes for big arms
-Distances range from 150-550'
-Posted pars felt pretty accurate in accordance with modern disc golf
-Park has restrooms and plenty of parking
-10 meters and OB are marked with colored fiber tufts in the ground, really nice touch

Cons:

-Middle section of the course is wide open pitch and putt which starts to get repetitive real quick.
-1 or 2 holes are near pedestrian areas.
-Hole 16 has a lot of artificial OB to avoid a shelter and pavilion.
-No elevation changes to speak of.
-A few holes play near a swampy marsh type area that is generally overgrown and can swallow up a disc.

Other Thoughts:

This is a huge improvement from what previous reviewers experienced. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area. Wind can play a big factor on a round as most of the course is in an open field. Note that tee 1 is currently on the street as you come in and not the old teebox to the right.

Big Step Up For This Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 19, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

I was contacted by the course designer , and there has been a lot of time effort and money spent on this project . Since I originally played here in August of 2018 ( the course had been dismal ) , there has been additional course design , signage added and concrete tees poured . I am moving my rating up just on that . I will report fully when the weather breaks and I can give a better review . In the meantime , if you played this course when it was only 4 holes , play this again to gain a better understanding of what all goes into improving a disc golf course

Cons:

This is no longer a 4 hole course , so my previous cons are a moot point . I have no real criticisms for this course until I play it ( likely 4 months from now ) again . I can tell you that I enjoy seeing someone's hard work gaining some much deserved recognition .

Other Thoughts:

The city and the locals must be serious about adding this game to Rushville . I am guessing that my rating will rise even more when I have a round or 2 under my belt . To those who are making this happen , Thanks .

Well, It's A Start 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 11, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a beginner to intermediate level course. There I said it, I would count this as a course as opposed to a practice area. Either way, it's incomplete and needs some work. (See below).

4 holes down, 3 holes back (2 are basket to basket) make a total of 7 playable holes.

Baskets - The baskets here are amazing. Even though there are only 4, they are the highlights of this course. Very nice, new, and grippy.

Tees - Although hole 1 doesn't have one, there are 4 tees at this course. Holes 2-5 have tees that have a wooden frames that are 4 x 8. Inside is natural grass, gravel, or dirt depending on holes.

Variety - Course is mostly open, hole 1 is heavily guarded, hole two is long with a creek on the side, hole 3 is open with a small pond bordering it, hole 4 is open. Tee for 5 turns you around to play back to start. Hole 5 is open. Hole 6 (basket to basket from hole 3/5's basket) is guarded on the right side but mostly open. Hole 7 (basket to basket from hole 2/6's basket) is open where you have to dodge s few trees.

There is potential here. Enough room to make a 9 hole loop around the pond.

Only course in area set in a small town park. Closest course is Boondock Farms. It introduces the locals to the sport, if they can find the holes and know what they are.

Cons:

No signs whatsoever. No hole numbers, tees are not marked, no map, no reference of disc golf at the park. Signs would do wonders to this course, potential to be a 2 or a 2.5 but needs to add 5 more baskets, tees, and signs for each hole.

Hole 1 doesn't have a tee pad. Tees start at hole 2. Without a starting tee pad, it's hard to have a strong impression of the course.

Pond overflows easily. The basket for hole 3/5 can be unplayable due to soggy ground if water levels high. Also, tee for 4 would be unplayable.

95% open meaning the only challenges are wind, water, and distance.

Other Thoughts:

It has baskets, it has tee pads, there are 7 playable holes, although some are basket to basket, in my opinion it's a course, but a poor one at that in its current state. It is passable as a course but I can't find myself giving it a 1.5 in its current state.

It needs some investment. Would not take much money to make some simple signs, simple tees, and to even expand. The potential is there, any investment of money even as low as $100 would give this signs and boxed tees. If the designer hunted me down, I would happily donate money to complete this course. I feel like someone started this course and gave up hope. It needs to be completed.

For the time being, I would recommend skipping this course unless you find yourself in Rushville, Indiana and would like to see it.

Wind Practice” 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 23, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course recently received an extensive upgrade from what was until then simply a practice area with a few baskets and tees in a floodplain bowl to a challenging 18 hole course with large, level concrete tees (oddly the first hole -only- has a hog slat tee about twenty feet behind a paver tee), extensive signage, and a healthy mix of wooded and open hoes well suited to the intermediate disc golfer's skill set. The DGA baskets are easy to spot, and catch well. The wooded, park-style holes are mostly reachable with 280' of distance, if you can control your lines of flight. They did a nice job of sprinkling some fun short holes into the mix, for variety (holes 2,3,5,6,14 & 18 come to mind). On the other hand, if you like to air it out, there are 7 holes in the 360-530' range, and will give you some serious challenge when conditions get windy!

The design clearly has in mind a huge number of 'out of bounds' lines (around the marsh, forcing an arc around the amphitheater seating area, or defining an 'island' for one of the shortie holes) to provide added challenge if you choose to play according to them, but the OBs and mando's are not specified on the signage, so there may be a different requirement for tourney play as opposed to casual.

Cons:

Though they took the trouble of installing some nice 'next tee' arrows under the cages, most are now either dangling or broken off altogether, so you'll want to bring a map. You progress from near the park entrance counterclockwise through the woods to hole 6 across a bridge, then oddly backtrack and reverse the flow to clockwise around the marsh in the middle of the bowl, THEN fall right back into the clockwise routing at 13. As an approach and putt player, holes 7-10, 12, 13, and 15 were mostly not my cup of tea. They might be for the longer thrower, but those were all going to pretty much be threes for me, unless the wind drove my throws off course.

Half of the course may be somewhat marshy in wet seasons, and other sections will definitely need mature players when the amphitheater is in use, or folks are enjoying the haunted trail, etc. Though there is a mound that runs the full length of the back of the park, the disc golf course did not use it for a risky green or an elevated tee, making me wonder if the designers were instructed not to do so. I didn't like having hole 10 play over what is obviously set aside as a parking area for events at the amphitheater, then having hole 15 'force' an arc around the seating area. Felt weird. Finally, I have a suspicion that 18 plays in a pretty busy area of the park for non-disc golfers, and seems like it could cause ...conflict.

Other Thoughts:

The upgrade was absolutely worth the time and effort invested, and appears to get a good deal of play from the surrounding community, being the only course really near this pocket of rural Indiana. Congrats to the team who did the work!

More of a Practice Course!!!! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 26, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

- has baskets
- has a few tees
- Has some trees and creek to help shape some shots.
- one of the few courses in a DG deadzone.
- Can create your own nine.

Cons:

- Course doesn't have any intended flow
- only four baskets.
- Fairly open

Other Thoughts:

Course is hard to find at first, have to drive around the wooded loop to even see the first basket. Played from the road to that basket and then we started seeing tee pads. With that being said great place to practice but not really a course. Its a one and done unless your one of the few unfortunate souls to be stuck in this area of Indiana.

Great Practice Area 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 23, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

- There are some tees and baskets strewn about here and there. The park is more or less your standard small park: a patch of woods, some open grassy stretches that look prone to flooding, the surrounding town on the edges. Behind one of the baskets were the remains (pun intended) of some Halloween or haunted trail event. Having to hit 35-footers while an awfully convincing blood-smeared tombstone lurks in my peripheral vision isn't something I recall experiencing before. So there's that.
-But then there's this...

Cons:

- This isn't really a course. Sure, there are four baskets (I don't believe we ever did find the fifth). And yes, a few passable gravel tees exist (albeit without any real sort of indication as to where to throw). But in the end, this is not a course.
- No tee signs. No real way to tell even where to begin. To complicate matters, the tees don't start popping up until a little bit farther back, so it's difficult to even know where to park and get out of the car. None of the baskets were numbered either.
- Only two, maybe three, gravel tees.
- No real flow or discernible, sensible layout that could rightfully be called a "course."

Other Thoughts:

- I don't mean to put Riverside Park down. Quite the opposite: this is a great practice area, and I'm sure I'd be there weekly if it were the closest place to play. Enough space to practice long distance, mid-range, and putting skills, and some trees to shape lines around as well. Plenty of great safari opportunity exists. As a practice area, Riverside shines; however, it's going to test the patience of anyone expecting to play an actual course.

Riverside Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 11, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

closest "course" to my home. I am a woman and sometimes don't feel safe playing alone and on this course I could practice alone and be safe. We have two young boys and this will also serve as a good training course for them.

Cons:

I wouldn't call this a course really. It is three baskets along the outside of a wooded area and then one basket in the middle of a field. I couldn't find the fifth basket. There are no tee pads.

Other Thoughts:

If you are a true blue disc golfer don't bother:)
