Fun small town course, beginner friendly drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 12, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

(Updated 7/2022) From a beginner perspective, the wife and I both enjoyed this course.
- Most holes in the front 9 are open, but a couple have some trees to deal with - in particular #3 should give just about anyone a challenge to attack the basket off the tee.
- The back 9 has a couple of longer holes that will give opportunities for stronger throwers to bomb a couple - plus a couple more wooded holes. My favorite on the back was the super short #15 featuring pines lined up on either side of a narrow approach shot.
- There's not too many places to lose disc really, but you might need to enter a private yard on #3 if you go O.B. left. Going left off the 14th tee is also a danger - some thick stuff is there.
- It's a bit more challenging than the nearby GospelDISCovery course, but the same level of enjoyment.
- 3 Different tee boxes are available which is nice, but even my wife (not long at all) had a fun time playing the longer blues with me - for her, it's just one extra throw (at most).
-With a course map handy on my phone, we had little difficulty finding the tees, each one has a decent sign.
-The course creator continues to make small improvements here and there (ex. directional arrows now on baskets to locate the next tee)

Cons:

- Not much other than nit-picking. Tees with the rugs have a bit of wear, but we played after some rain yesterday and had no issues really.
- Access roads and other hard obstacles will punish inaccurate discs for some players, LOL.

Other Thoughts:

- Not the most scenic course - it being around an elementary school after all, but a really convenient option for players in the golden strip area.
- Having now played several times since my initial review, I will say that I appreciate this course more & more. If you're in the area - check it out.

This Firecracker is Dynamite ! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 10, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Firecracker is an 18 hole disc golf course located on the grounds of Fountain Inn Elementary . There is plenty of parking when school is not in session near the hole #1 fairway . There are no bathrooms for the disc golfers .
The Equipment - There are multiple tees for this course , so there is everything from makeshift tee pads using sidewalks , to natural to carpet tees ( longs ) . The signs can be hard to sport for non locals , so you need to print a map and look for the tee signs on posts , trees and some on the building walls . The baskets are yellow banded and numbered Discatchers .
The Landscape - intriguing if not remarkable . Cement , curbs and even a chain link fence is used as OB . There are sections of woods and trees at the school that make up this course . They have added several woods holes in the back . Usage of sides of the school for tee pads , and the very back for a tunnel shot , returning to the side of the school for the last 2 holes . There is some elevation present , and enough grounds at the school to support 2 +500' holes .
Course Appearance/Atmosphere - There were 2 sets of players on the course when I played on a Saturday morning . The school looks very nice , the grounds were cut and woods holes branches have been maintained and fairways cleared . Appearance is good , and atmosphere is light . Hey , this is an elementary school .
Highlights - Plenty of good holes on this course . #1 starts you off with a wide tunnel shot 314' from the longs . #4 is a slightly uphill shot ( 235 ' longs ) to an elevated basket . #10 is literally a tunnel shot from a tee pad sitting in a school tunnel connection 2 buildings , throwing uphill to the basket at the edge of the woods . #13 is an island hole . Throwing from the woods with a canopy , it is downhill a midrange/putter shot ( 185' longs ) #14 ( 484' mid , 530' longs ) throws from a slightly elevated tee over a fenced in school play area to the basket sitting in the open on a little rolling hill . You can bail your drive to the left on a strip of ground between the fence and the rough if you don't think you can throw over the fences . #18 is a down sloping 290' ( longs ) finishing hole to a basket sitting directly in front of a steep dropoff .
Signature Hole - #15 only 153' , it is an alley putter/midrange shot between rows of trees on both sides . I swear they look like there are 3 feet apart from the tee pad .
Disc Risk - Low . The course design cleverly avoids any overgrowth , and the grounds are kept in great shape . Maybe hooking a drive the left on long #14 into a fenced in back yard or the woods might be a problem , but nothing else .
The Time - It took me just over an hour to play the course , but on a few of the holes , i was trying out new discs . A foursome will get through here in less than 2 hours .
Great design incorporating bits of the school and playground into it's course . It makes the course separate , but not so separate .
Lots of variety here . They throw everything at you short of a hanging basket from a tree , making the Fun Factor high .

Cons:

#1 Safety ? This is kind of ticky-tack since you are only allowed to play when school is out , but you do throw over roads on several holes , Make sure you are clear before throwing .
#2 Navigation - Print a map . I still had to be pointed to the first tee by a local . You can easily miss holes without a map or a solo out of town player . #5's tee is up against the school and throws over a grass circle .
#3 Hours Of Operation - This can't be helped , but it's a shame that some players will miss out on the opportunity to play here because it is on school grounds .

Other Thoughts:

What a course for an elementary school to have ! I have played many school courses , elementary to college , and I have seen few better than this . I am used to 9 hole elementary school courses that are 1300 - 2100' and very basic . This has everything to keep younger players interested in the game . I want video of these kids . They must be Amazons to be able to play a home course that has both 2-500' + holes and parts of a course that test tight technical abilities . Course designer Josh Bryant gets straight A's for his work . I read the Facebook page , and the course just went to 18 holes recently and added the woods holes . This is a great opportunity for Fountain Inn Elementary to introduce themselves to the city and county ( even country ) , and provide something for the community students to enjoy . They should have a challenge tournament incorporating all of the elementary schools in the county . Please be respectful of the time allotted for disc golf play from the school .
My Recommendation - With its multi tee setup and variety , this is a great intro course , and a fun outside activity for school age kids. This is the kind of setup for families , dates and locals to enjoy . I think that even though most of the holes were created with the Less-Seasoned in mind , I think even they will be amused by some of the gimmicks the course has to offer and try to see how far under par they can shoot . Travelers and Course Collectors that are on I-385 can get an hour in if school is out . You have to see this to believe it ! I say Play It !!!

Great School Course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 27, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Good mix of hole types
-Tee signs
-Nice baskets

Cons:

-Navigation without map or app is confusing
-Some carpet tee boxes
-No bathroom facilities evident
-Can't play during school hours

Other Thoughts:

I finally got the chance to play The Firecracker! I had heard tons of great things about it, so I was eager to take a look.

When I got there, I immediately noticed that there were no bathrooms available to public (especially during the Covid19 era). There is also not much in the way of secluded wooded areas for guys to take care of good ole' #1. With this course being VERY intertwined into the school surroundings, I did not exactly want to get caught taking care of business where kids could be present even if it was after hours. No one needs a criminal record for exposing one's self to a minor. So if you come play here, keep that in mind and prepare accordingly.

I had to ask around, but I finally found the first tee box. I am guessing with it being on school property, they probably did not want huge gaudy signs to help people find their way. The school itself also has a lot going on, so the tee signs don't exactly stand out from the surroundings.

I was meeting a group later so I wanted to preplay/warm up while my phone charged. I started on hole 1 which is a doozie of a starting hole requiring a long straight drive to the basket for any decent birdie opportunity. That hole went fine, but the trouble started at hole 2.

I found hole 2's tee sign sure enough, but I could not for the life of me see how the geography on the sign lined up with what I was seeing behind the sign. I could not see the OB it described at all. Also, the distance to goal was not even close! I pondered on this for a while as I tried to figure out what I was missing. Then, I turned around. The goal was actually to the left and not directly behind the tee sign! So once I got that figured out, hole 2 played just fine.

I went on through holes 3 and 4 with no issue, but then I hit a wall. I could not find hole 5's tee anywhere! I could see the basket, but walked around for a good 5 minutes and could not find the tee! The little old lady dropping off her recycling watched me like a hawk. She probably though I was going to mug her or something, but I bet I did look pretty strange just wandering around in circles for no apparent reason. It was almost time for my group to get there, so I gave up and when back to hole 1.

Luckily, there were locals in my group that knew where everything was. When we got back to hole 5, I realized the tee was literally right against the school wall! I have never seen a school course so intimately intertwined with a course.

We continued playing playing through each hole until I found my absolute favorite. Hole 14 is a bomber hole. One of those where you have plenty of space to let a drive RIP. Due to the OB field and fence in front of you, you need to be able to throw at least 360 to clear the height of the fence, or you go to the drop zone at the red tee. I bombed my drive and it felt so good watching it fly! Ended up with an easy 3.

I guess hole 15 is the signature hole with the tight line between the pines. I had seen pictures online and it looked terrifying. Good news! It was not as bad as I imagined when I saw it in person. It is an easy 3.

I know a lot of people love The Firecracker. It is a good course in an area where the next closest course is Simpsonville which pales in comparison. But in my opinion, it would be tough for this one to hold up in comparison with the greatest courses in the Upstate. If you are in the area, and want a good disc golf experience, I would definitely recommend The Firecracker, but I would not say it is a destination course at this time.

To improve, I would suggest posting information about restrooms (if they are even available), and putting next tee indicators on each basket for newbies that wonder through.

Permanent Temp Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 15, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-What's great is that this course now has eighteen baskets and three sets of pads on many holes. It feels like a temporary street course set up for a tournament. It's a little bit more open than wooded, even though there's a good variation between open and wooded here. The red and white pads are good for novices or rec players. The blue pads are a little bit more challenging but still very shreddable for advanced players. Open players will be able to birdie most of the blues without much trouble or many attempts.

-The design and layout is very creative. I think the designer knew there was an eighteen holer somewhere. Kind of like a man made swimming hole implemented from a hollow hole in the ground that's later floored with hard but cheap objects and edged with brick or stones. There's some safety concern, but it's cost efficient and still enjoyable. The creativity comes into play starting on #5. You throw off a road from the blue tee over an island and across the road to another island. On hole 10, you are throwing from under the school building arch up a hill into the woods. Hole 13 is a short downhill ace run out of the woods and onto a man made island green. #17 has you throwing downhill from the student drop off section under the main entrance. Very well thought and original.

-An accuracy tester. There's a lot of OB here. The road is probably the main obstacle but #14's tee shot over the ball field is a great risk reward for players who can throw at least 375'. That was probably my favorite hole.

-Ace opportunities from every pad pretty much. The reds could be used for an ace race with a group of friends. The yellows and blues aren't quite as simple but are still very attackable.

-Tee signs for most pads. If there isn't one on one of the three pads, then it'll probably be on one of the other two. The signs are detailed and even have a name for each hole to show its individuality.

Cons:

-So much danger. #16's upshot and green inside the enclosed fence consisting of a playground is a primary concern. Terrible place for a basket location. I mean sure if your shot lands in the playground, you'll have a tricky but fun looking upshot but this hole is dangerous nonetheless and should simply be moved elsewhere because I loved the tee shot out out the woods through a tight gap. This brought my rating from a 3 to a 2.5.

-You are constantly teeing off on the road or across the road. If an event is going on, you'll be skipping holes for sure.

-There is a plastic bag covering the first hole's basket. Not sure why or how long its going to be there. When I arrived I didn't know this course was technically closed because of the pandemic. That might be an indication but the rest of the baskets were not covered.

-Navigation is pretty tricky. Some of the baskets have different numbers. What sticks out in my mind is the fact that on hole six, the first basket you'll probably see is straight ahead and nearly tucked in the woods. That's #8. The basket for #6 is actually to the left side.

-Poison ivy on holes 11 and 12 and I think there was some on hole 15 as well.

Other Thoughts:

-The Firecracker is a solid and fun layout. It's not my favorite course around the Greenville area, but it was better than I thought it would be. The creative locations for tee shots and the extra tee pads are a real asset to this course. Even the open holes require some shot shaping and the wooded holes really require accuracy. Even though, it's usually not very hard to salvage par if you miss. If you stay in bounds, this course is very forgiving. If you don't, you'll be losing strokes.

-I had this course all to myself. You probably will too unless there is a school event, disc golf club event, or a group that so happens to show up when you do. It's an enjoyable casual course. Pretty gimmicky but in a fun way.

Boom Goes the Dynamic (Disc) 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 3, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

One of the more interesting layouts I've played. A nine-basket layouts that has players going around an elementary school three times for a so-called 27-hole layout. You know what? This actually is a solid layout.
- Let's be clear. This should be a 9-hole, or at best, 18-hole, layout. If you picked the best layout for each basket, you'd have an excellent 9-hole layout, in the same class as Gower or Holmes.
- Some very fun and/or clever layouts. On hole #7/16 you're teeing off from under the covered walkway between two campus buildings. Each time round, the layout is seemingly longer/harder, yet you get to #26 (basket #8) and it's significantly shorter than #8 or 17. The reason being? This time around, it's an island green. And, I thought all three tees for #9 (9, 18, & 27) gave different looks, the best variety on the entire course.
- Course has a solid flow through the campus. Holes #1, 2, 4, 5, & 8 have varying degrees of tree coverage. Holes #3, 6, 7, & 9 are open assuming you can hit wide gaps. Point being, your round has a good flow to it.
- There's a good elevation factor here. #1 & 5 are the only flat layouts. #2, 6, 8, & 9 play downhill. #3, 4, & 7 play uphill. Throw in the multiple tee pads and the elevation varies from tee to tee.
- Easy navigation. Easy as flowing from one hole to the next. Finding the correct next tee (#1 to #2, #24 to 25, etc.), a little less so. Now, if you're casual and looking for a very quick round and looking for any tee, you've got three to choose from.
- A good course for a casual round and/or to introduce new players to. Other than a couple dumb throws right into trees, this course offered relatively easy par chances. On the easier holes, the risk/reward factor tips heavily into the reward side of things. I easily shot under par, and my round rating still wasn't that impressive. Blame it on the early wake-up call, two-hour drive, bum shoulder, or whatever. Course hits its intended target audience.
- Depending on one's perspective, this is either the first course you come across (if you're coming from the south), or your last chance to play a round before leaving the upstate (if you're coming from the north).

Cons:

Yes, this is a casual-friendly course. Is it elementary-school age friendly? I'd lean towards no. For a middle or high-school course, this would be a fantastic course. For younger kids, they're not throwing 200-250 feet tee shots.
- The conundrum of three tee pads per hole can't go unmentioned. It's a cluster. Multiple times through my round, I'd finish one hole, find one or two tee markers, but it isn't the correct one.
- Or worse, I'd find multiple tee pads way too close that it seems as if the course didn't need 27 tee pads. I mean, honestly, how much different do the tees for #1, 10, 19 truly play? My evidence? I threw from all three tee pads at once and used the same throw/disc make from all three. #2, 3 & 4 aren't much better. I ended up making the loop around the campus only twice, playing duel tees one time through. Way too many similarities. Just admit that Canadian bacon and ham are the same topping on your pizza or in your egg McMuffin.
- Houses, at times seemed extremely close to the course. I understand this entire area isn't solely the school campus. There's a rec center and recycling area. On #2, 3, & 5, I felt as if I were approaching people's backyards.
- No amenities throughout the course proper - trashcans, benches, water fountains, or restrooms. Depending on how long you plan on spending here, that may be a factor? I guess that's a con?

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed Firecracker more than I expected. It was part of a quick, half-day trip to the Greenville area to play a couple of courses. This was an excellent warm-up round to my day, bum-shoulder included.
- If every 9-hole course I've ever played were as good as this, I'd be satisfied. Translation: this is better than the normal 9-hole course. Caveat: This course had three tries to find the ideal tee location.
- Following that thought, pick the best tee pad and you've got yourself a good course. You want to make it kid friendly? Add a second, shorter layout, with holes in the 125 - 175-foot range. This course did not need a third set of tees. And yet, I didn't hold it against them.
- Yes, unfortunately the first 4 holes are the most boring and basic layouts. #2 is solid. From #5 - 9, I enjoyed each hole and how it complimented both the prior and following hole. These holes didn't have any repetitiveness or redundancy. Irony.
- There are some good ace-runs/holes that encourage multiple shots. #5 is one. #26 with its island layout is another. And, #9 with all three layouts is a third. I think I had a combined 30-feet of putts for all three layouts on #9 (9, 18, & 27).
- If course's have doppelgangers, this one's is Dandrige Elementary School just outside of Knoxville. You didn't know I reviewed that course? It's ok. I can tell by the lack of votes for that course too.
- I'm giving this course a 2.0 rating. Perhaps this course cheats to earn that rating. When you get two mulligans per each hole, you're bound to have one good shot.

Great School Course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 27, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is what it's supposed to be - an accessible elementary school course. If you're looking for a Winthrop Gold course or an equivalent, then go elsewhere. Most every hole has a birdie look and sometimes, we need that, especially if you're new, trying out new discs, etc. This is not to say that there aren't challenges, but after you get used to it, you should aim for -10 or better. The course designer did a great job at creating an accessible course that still allows for things like roll aways, woodsy shots, etc.

Cons:

Needs more next tee arrows on or under the baskets. If you haven't been before and you're not with someone who has been, it may be a bit tough to figure out.

Other Thoughts:

There are 9 baskets, but the designer has used the land wisely for three different looks at each pin.

A good practice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 5, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

The thing about this course is that all the holes a pretty manageable without many difficult shots. It is a really good course for practice and to boost some self-confidence.
It is somewhat enjoyable but I would not call it a destination course.

Cons:

I think the main con is that calling it a 27 hole course is misleading. Really it is just a nine hole course that you can play up to 3 times with different tee pads. They aren't that much different though.

Hole 9 is also really hard to find if you don't study the map. You have to walk to the complete other side of the school which there are no signs or anything.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, it is an easy practice course but not that much more.

Fun School Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 21, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very fun for a school course.
Not overly long (pro and con)
Some tees are very close to other tees but have very different required throws
Love the island hole!
Would be very hard to lose a disc

Cons:

Parking lot/walking trail close to hole 2 basket
tee pad in road on hole 4
Need some next tee signs- hole 8 to 9
Varied tee pads- carpet, natural, concrete, rubber, and pavers
School property

Other Thoughts:

This is probably a top 10 best school course in the country. Most importantly it is a fun course and requires different throws. You can play 27 hole very quickly. This is not a course where you need to throw it 400+ but requires accurate tee shots to get the birdie. The course is obviously on school property which is its biggest weakness

Firecracker 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 20, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Great use of available space
-Not overly easy
-Beautiful holes
-Easily accessible from I-385
-27 tees which provide a completely new look at each basket
-Mandos and an island hole keep play interesting
-Great course to learn or teach on

Cons:

-Closed until 6pm on weekdays (excluding the summer)
-Relatively short course, it can be played completely with a midrange and a putter
-Several areas of thick brush where you could potentially lose a disc
-Rubber tees slippery when wet

Other Thoughts:

This course is well thought out with interesting and challenging holes. That being said there are several "gimme" holes, but that helps you boost your confidence if you're playing a bad round. This isn't your run of the mill elementary school course, and can really catch you by surprise at times.

Great family course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 26, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Great variety. Some grassy, some woods. Some holes long enough that you big throwers can air it out, some short enough that us rec players can pick up a par, or even an occasional birdie. Even though there are only nine baskets, the twenty-seven tee locations make you feel like you're playing bigger course.
- Family friendly. I usually take the grandkids, but we always yield the right of way if faster players come up behind us. The kids love it, even our three year old who constantly yells, "my turn".
- Well designed. It's obvious the designer has put a lot of thought and love into building the course.

Cons:

Only a few minor cons.
- The holes that play through the woods (5, 8, 14, and 17) are extremely tight! I believe I read that PDGA guidelines recommend at least a twenty foot wide tunnel for fairways through the woods, certainly not the case here. Still, that's just me. Many of you will love the woods.
- Since the course is on school property, it's closed to the public during school hours. While this is understandable, it means that after daylight savings time ends, we'll only be able to play on weekends and holidays.
- Some of the signs are missing, probably vandals.

Other Thoughts:

I think I've played every course within a 50 mile radius Greenville, but the Firecracker is my "go to" course. On a recent, beautiful, Sunday afternoon our family met up with Mr. Firecracker himself, Josh Bryant. Josh designed, built, and maintains the course. He was super friendly and spent extra time helping my 7 and 12 year old grandchildren as he played along with us. Check out his Facebook page, and if you haven't played the Firecracker, give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

Well done redesign! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 26, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

When you think about a course built around an elementary school, it's like "yawn, why bother?" Well let me tell you something, this is one to bother!

Not all courses have to be 'in your face' challenging your mental state on every tee pad. Some should be fun, I mean, we don't play this game to be tortured! Some do, but I digress...

Fire Cracker is absolute pure unadulterated fun. For me, 12 out of the first 13 holes are mostly easy 2's, except #12 (but I'll get you, just you wait!). Some are EASY, some are tricky (#3 to be precise) and some take real skill (#11 & 15)

A few are BOMBER holes, but most can be reached for an easy birdie. I think on a very, very good day 10-12 down is doable for most advanced players. Intermediate should shoot 5-6 down, and newbies can scrape up a bird or two..

You can't get anymore use out of the available land than the designer did. Great use of the woods and land around the school (dude must have MASSIVE pull in the school to accomplish what he did!).

The multiple tee pads didn't just make short / long they vary the angle of the shot, used mando's and trees to change the approach.

Most of the shots were fairly open, but there were enough trees at the top of the property to create some tight control shots.

And around hole 13, there's a nice 180' shot out of the woods and down a hill to an island hole with a 30' ring.

And after the island hole, when your aching to unleash the beast in your arm comes #14. A 340' drive over a ball field from a raised tee pad. You can wimp out to the left and play it safe, but why bother! Reach back and uncork a drive...or just flat out empty your bag!

#15 is a tiiiiiight birdie/bogey hall of trees. The basket is only 150' so an easy toss...until it is not.

#16 is another open up your arm cannon shot out of a tiiiight gap.

Then its back to the placement shots for #17 & #18

Cons:

None really...#3 has really no line to the basket, but it's short and discs to find a way through. #5 kinda feels like a filler-hole. The white tee on #17 is really wonky, longer than the blue and not a good angle (if I played the right spot!)

Other Thoughts:

Navigation is mostly simple, though the tee for #5 was hard to find. Some of the holes back right up to backyards, so watch the language! No benches, not that you really need them with how short the course is.

Mandos and OB provide some added challenge.

Great tee signs on every hole.

The redesign has made this course much better. New shots are required. You can shoot low scores here.

Favorite hole is #5. Short but technical. It can easily jump up and bite you.

Plays quick. You can easily get three or four rounds in without any trouble.

Cons:

Not close to other quality courses.

Not open during the week. This is understandable due to being on a school campus.

Some rubber tees get slippery. Not a real big deal but needs to be noted.

Other Thoughts:

Great addition to the greater Greenville area disc golf scene. It's worth a play.

A fun course for beginners 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 31, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Uses all kinds of terrain. Creatively laid out around the school. Fun to play and very pretty. Particularly hole 10, the way the pin sits through the trees is just very alluring. It's a nice thing to have a new local course in the area.

Cons:

A lot of brush. I've lost only one disc here thankfully, but still is an issue at times. The tees are sometimes very close to wooded areas, making things very prone to get shot into some weeds or thorns. And the second time around, the shots aren't too crazy different, which is okay, but takes some of the fun out of new perspectives of the course. Being closed during school hours doesn't help much, but isn't really a bother.

Other Thoughts:

Overall I really like this course. As an on-off player for a few years, this was really exciting to have so close to my home. This course has brought my love for disc golf back in a much brighter flame. I like the shots and how they're starting to make me a much better player (For real, first time on this course I shot a 76, the most recent, I shot a 56. Huge improvement.) Though I really think some holes could get a bit more distance on them, I find this a great course for beginners to play and learn on, and really nice for some experienced people to just enjoy a round of disc. It's great. I am not disappointed by the course in any way, and I love the challenge it presents. Good job to Josh for all the hard work you put into designing this course.

Flinging at the Firecracker 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 16, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Firecracker DGC is a nice little course with many opportunities for birdies, if not ace runs. There are 9 Innova baskets, most of which have two rubber tee pads to make it 18 holes. Layout is fairly easy to follow, and rounds are quick and easy. A few sparse trees, some patches of dense brush and elevation changes add some obstacles. Course is placed on land surrounding a school, and makes good use of the available space. There is a water fountain, trash cans, and restrooms nearby at the recreation center.

Cons:

The course is quite easy for an experienced player, and is somewhat repetitive. The alternate tee boxes do not change the shape of the shot drastically. I did turn around for a RH sidearm flick on 2/11, and 3/10 was a slight turnover, but otherwise RHBH hyzer city. I never found markers for 7/16, they may have been blocked by two workers and their truck who were spreading a large pile of mulch. Hole 8/17 has become somewhat risky, because a cluster of portable buildings now surrounds the target (not pictured on map). My shot wound up 6 feet under a classroom. Only hole I took a bogey on. I didn't play all 18, because of a very similar back nine, and snow began to fall after 9. The course is closed while school is in session.

Other Thoughts:

Firecracker DGC is fun, but not as exciting as it sounds. I had fun on my visit here, and I'm glad I got to see it. Low level of difficulty makes this course great for beginners, and playable with only 2 or 3 discs. I would be happy to have it if I lived nearby, but this is not a destination course, there are several better ones not far away. In summary, any disc golf is good disc golf,

Great Short Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Makes great use of the available land.
-The multiple tee pads lets you play a full 18 hole round on a otherwise 9 hole course.
-Good for beginners and kids but still fun for experienced players.
-Easy to navigate.
-Nice tee signs with distances listed.
-Nice new baskets.
-Starts and finishes at the parking lot.

Cons:

-Not playable during school hours. (understandable)
-Some of the "back 9" are very similar to their front 9 counterparts.
-There was a good bit of mud on some of the rubber mats, and some were uneven.
-Brush to the left of holes 3/12. It is very dense. I went in looking for my disc and found three others.
-Like S.Cann said, there are no shots that turn right to force the RHFH or turnover shot.

Other Thoughts:

The kids at the school should have a blast at this course. I wish I had something like this at my school to get me into disc golf earlier in life.

Not Your Typical Elementary School Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 19, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-This course has a couple of the prettiest holes off the tee. Hole 10 stands out the most which is longer and framed by trees on either side.

-This is a great place for lower level players to gain experience and learn the game.

-Amenities such as bathrooms and water fountain are readily available at the Recreation center during business hours.

-Baskets are brand new DISCatchers in excellent condition.

-This course has a great flow and plays in a circle. Parking is located right between holes 1 and 18.

Cons:

-Although this aspect has improved, there are still only a handful of holes that play through the woods.

-Only a couple of long throws for the big arms.

-Rubber Mats are ok on most holes but there are a couple that are uneven that the ground below needs to be leveled out on. There is a possibility of slipping when pads are wet.

-The biggest con for the Firecracker is that there are limited hours of play. You cannot play the course during school hours. This limits you to after 6:00 pm on school nights. The course is only playable on weekends during the school year, but is open all day during the Summer months.

Other Thoughts:

This course is nearly perfect for what it was designed for. This course places a premium on accuracy. The intention was to provide a great place for inexperienced players to learn, but also provide enjoyment for your more veteran players and this course does just that. The Firecracker will never host Worlds, but may be the starting place for a kid who one day plays in Worlds.

The Firecracker explodes with fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 24, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This coirse has had many updates since its inception. These changes include relocating a few baskets, new hole desihns, and an additional 9 tees. These changes have made the course more challenging and diverse. Now there are a variety of shots required and new wooded holes.

The baskets are DISCatchers and installed well. There are 27 different tees, 9 baskets. The flow of the course is about as good as it gets. Ample parking near hole 1's tee. You are more than likely going to get a private feel to this course.

The new Firecracker requires many different shots from your game. It was designed with flow in mind but with recent updates shot selection is critical. The wind plays a factor here and can punish bad shots.

This course is great or beginners and sets up as a great place to learn. Some of the newer wooded holes are a little more challenging which can also be good for people learning. Kids and families can play it, yet it provides enough variety, use of elevation, and land features to be fun for more advanced players.

OB on roads and curbs provides challenges but pin placements are not too difficult.

Signature hole: Ten probably is one of the most beautiful of disc golf holes out there. Given the fall season it stacks up to be a colorful hole.

Bathrooms/Water fountain at Rec Center. This is a plus when it is open so check hours of operation.

Cons:

Summer 2013: briars are not a factor as no hole play near them. (Therefore not a con but added the info here so you know to stay away)

Shot selection is not too difficult here. It does test your ability to throw straight and shape shots on some holes. If you keep it in the fairway you should shoot well.

Quite a few open holes but given terrain this was the likely outcome. Elevation, wind, and OB present added challenges.

School property - When school is in no one can be on the school grounds. This is the biggest con.

No signage for the new nine tees. Follow the Facebook page @ The FirecrCker DGC for info on new tees.

Other Thoughts:

New holes as of 2013: The map will be incorrect. Follow the flow after one.

When coming off hole 6's basket the tees for 7 and 16 are under the canopy in the opening of the building. You will see the sign on the brick. Play from the concrete slab that the sign is beside.

When coming off hole 8's basket walk around the gravel road to the front of the school to find 9 and 18's tees.

Tee signs are nice. Some footages are incorrect until updated stickers can be made. Rubber tees have been installed and some existing concrete is used for tee pads. Please respect all property.

Park in the main parking lot of the school at the very back on the right if looking at the front of the school. Then walk across the road to hole 1.
