The previous reviewer, markleedisc, is more of a woodmans than I am for he was able to locate never before discovered baskets in the dense Red Fir forests of the high Sierras camp at Sierra Pines. I put on my best Kit Carson boots, looked through my Daniel Boone telescope and used all my trailblazing techniques taught to me by the late, great Jim Bridger. All to no avail, for after a good 30-40 minutes of stumbling around the very steep mountainside in every direction from the # 3 basket, I was never able to find a # 4 ANYTHING. Like the warden proclaims so eloquently in Shawshank Redemption, "It must have vanished like a fart in the wind." And all the while it was hidden underneath a downed Red Fir tree. And I didn't didn't even know they were Red Firs? And I had been given a course map by a friendly camp worker.

The tees here are small red reflectors. Hole # 1 is a very technical little hole with a small creek just to the right. It's easy to lose your disc in the bushes.
# 2 plays across the softball field and then up above it. # 3 plays through some deep, foreboding forests to a basket which sits in what would be considered rough on most courses. In fact, this whole course might qualify as being reclassified as a rough.

After completely tiring myself and totally frustrating the heck of myself, I happened upon the tail end of the course on the way to my car. By then, I was in no condition to try and pick up the trail again and reconstruct it in any way. I was a beaten down man.

I think they totally missed on their captive audience here, which is the summer camper crowd. These Junior and Senior Hi kids are going to come up for a week at a time. None of them will have any disc golf experience. None of them will have discs. They'll probably issue them a toy Whamo frisbee and turn em loose. Campers will give up on this course in a heartbeat. They'll have no interest in breaking a trail in the forest or hunting for their disc in the thick, thick underbrush or getting all sweaty and dirty. The three holes I played were more like a fairly technical recreational course in the woods.

For campers up here, I would construct a course with every basket 75-150' away and visible. It would be of the pitch and putt variety. The forest here is too thick for blind basket placements for campers with toy discs. They'll hate disc golf for the rest of their natural lives.

No crowds here, as a matter of fact I'm not sure anyone had ever played here before. Red Fir forest in the High Sierra, Year round stream at hole 6. No poisonous plants snakes or mosquitoes the day we were there.

I think this course was made for the summer camp on which it is located (empty when we were there). This is not really a place to build a public course being on very steep, sandy and woody slope. Hole 4 was the most difficult to find, and when we did, the basket had been crushed by a '200+ fallen Fir. Hole 5 has thick thorn bushes to left of basket. No t-pads or trails.

I was not disappointed because it was what I expected, and had a fun adventure. I respect anyone who puts in a course and I understand the problems of having non-ideal terrain, but making a flat spot in the dirt for a tee pad, so you can tell where to throw from, is needed. Look for A-frame pedestrian bridge, cross and look to right to find the first tee. Follow the occasional red reflector or street cone and kick a flat spot out of the dirt and you have a T-pad.
