Not the worst school course I've played 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 12, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice disc catcher baskets.

Finding discs 8/10 Not much chance of losing a disc unless you really shank one on hole 1. Might have to dig through weeds a little if you go left on 7.

Elevation 6/10 5 of the 8 holes are pretty much completely flat, but the other 3 have some interesting elevation changes. Hole 2 is uphill at the end, 3 is downhill the whole way, and 8 is uphill with sidehill.

Variety of Distances 6/10. A decent mix of short (holes 1 and 5) and long (holes 4, 7, and 8).

Cons:

Navigation on holes 0/10, between holes 1/10. The big question on most of these holes is where do they start? I found 3 tee pads (I think holes 2, 3, and 6). There are no tee signs or posts, or markers of any kind other than the little rubber squares that seem to be gone on most holes, leaving you to guess. There is no course map on site or online that I could find. Long walk after hole 6 to get to where you can tee off for hole 7. At least the baskets have hole numbers written on them so if you walk the whole course you can tell the general direction you're supposed to go.

No alternate hole positions 0/10

Comfort 1/10 Lots of holes over or near various sports fields and playgrounds and walking paths. No benches or water or bathrooms.

Variety of openness 2/10 Many holes are almost completely open with about 2 trees. Hole 4 has trees lining the left side, and 5 and 6 have a good number of scattered obstacles.

Use of obstacles 2/10 There could have been more holes that utilized the area where holes 4 - 7 are, providing more obstacles and avoiding throwing over sports fields.

Variety of shot paths 2/10 Hole 4 favors left to right, hole 6 favors right to left.

Decisionmaking required 3/10 A couple routes to choose from on holes 5 and 6, and slight risk/reward deciding whether to go over or around soccer field on holes 2 and 3. The rest let you do whatever.

Course maintenance 3/10 one basket is missing, and many tees are missing. The one redeeming quality is that it's mowed.

Reasonably challenging all levels 3/10 Good for beginners to learn the game, and for intermediate players to work on distance on the long holes.

Other Thoughts:

More precise rating 1.331
Overall Challenge 3/10

Looking past all of the issues with not having any way to denote where most of the holes are supposed to start, and the fact that several holes will be dangerous/unplayable if the fields are in use, you can set up some interesting holes depending on where you pick to play from. I played on a day that no one was on any fields, and actually enjoyed many of the holes from where I chose to put the tees for myself.

If they added in a map at the start, and markers to denote the tees that are visible from the previous baskets, this course could probably move up to a 2.0. If they take out a couple holes 1-3 and add in a couple new holes in the space for hole 4-7 it could move up even higher.

Basic school course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 30, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

There are 8 baskets here as far as I could tell. These are disccatchers that were in pretty solid shape still and catch fine. The tees are small rubber pads about 3 feet by 4 feet though I only found 2. The course is permanent and would be a decent spot to play a winter round. The grass was all well mowed and maintained. A small amount of elevation that was used pretty well on a couple holes. Pretty straight forward school course here.

Cons:

Basket 9 is gone as far as I could tell. It appears that they moved 8's basket to 9's location since there was a big gap in between 7 and 8. Wouldn't be playable during school hours obviously. Plays over and very near some baseball diamonds and a soccer field. The tees (at least the 2 I could find) are pretty much useless. You might as well just play from the grass anyway.

Other Thoughts:

This is obviously nothing to go out of your way to play. Your standard issue school course. With the obligatory missing basket and near impossible to find tees. Nothing to see here. Play Dretzka or Brown Deer instead for sure. Both are way more fun and challenging.

An afterthought.... 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 13, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

8 hole (we couldn't find a #9 basket) basket set up around baseball diamonds, tennis courts, soccer fields and football fields.

Nice Discatcher baskets, in decent enough repair. The color helped to be able to navigate in some fashion.

Nice elevation in play on many of the holes (more on this below).

Cons:

Tee pads? I have to believe at some point there were small rubber tee pads for every hole, but we could only find two (holes 2 and 4, I believe).

No signs or navigational tools. There was a general flow to the holes, but I'll be darned if we could figure out where tee pads were supposed to be. We tried to follow the flow of the baskets and ended up just playing safari golf.

Several of what we can only imagine were intended lines, ran through, around and over various sport fields. You definitely aren't going to be playing here while any sporting activities are going on.

Other Thoughts:

If you've got the place to yourself, you could put together some interesting safari golf, but outside of that, not much to offer here. Elevation and available space are the major draws, and the baskets are spaced out enough to give you options.

If you have to bag everything, then stop. If not, then don't bother, especially with Brown Deer and Dretzka nearby.

Brown Deer HS 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 22, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Excellent use of distance to challenge the high schoolers.

2) Nice elevation changes on this course. There is a fair amount of up and down overall.

3) Nice new discatchers. I like these baskets even if they make a rude noise when I hit high in the basket.

4) Rubber mats are better than worn out dirt. See also Cons.

5) There are a few different types of shots to be thrown here and even a multiple shot hole requiring some placement.

Cons:

1) There really is no short acerun type of hole here to give the kids a reason to come back (other than physical education credits).

2)The whole school area is still under construction so the #9 basketis out and I couldn't find a tee for #1, #7, or #9. I assume those will go back in after the work is done and I will remove this from the review.

3) Lots of major bomb type holes and only a few reachable holes. I would like to see something a little more fun and less challenging for gym classes where most people have never played most likely.

4) A huge disappointment that they felt they had nowhere else to put a few holes. You throw over the corner of a soccer field and up near the tennis courts too on #2. On #3 you throw over the same soccer field but right across the goal. On #4 you throw behind a baseball outfield which may or may not come into play. #5 goes across what looks to be a practice soccer field. #7 looks to be throwing alongside the shotput area as well as two kidney shaped areas that look to be garden areas, which would likely be destroyed. #8 throws along two ball fields and there is serious risk of bystander issues here. #9 throw between the tennis courts and maybe a parkin lot (still in construction). I know this is a school and they got the money to provide these activities during school hours. Even witht his in mind it is not st up to be beginner friendly and it also is unplayable by anyone during other sporting activities, which consider a negative. If they get kids hooked on the game, someone will want to be out playing all the time.

5) No signs yet, but maybe there will be eventually.

6) I think they missed out on the chance to make a sweet memorable hole for the high schoolers. If the Library would allow the school district to use the edge of their property there is an awesome acerun throwing from the other side of the big creek to the current #1 basket. It would be memorable visibly and also for anoyne who parks it or gets an ace.

6) This is not beginner frinedly enough for a school course.

Other Thoughts:

Not my cup of tea, but it has some redeeming values, just do not go there when any other activities are going on or you will be frustrated. If you are a beginner I recommend elsewhere beacuse of all the danger on the athletic fields.
