Moon Lake DGC is a good one. I liked the use of the land surrounding the small lake, though the layout is a little funky. There are several really good holes that are fun and can be perilous.

Hole 4 has an interesting fairway that funnels into a winding trail that is uphill into the woods. It takes a nice RHBH flex shot to make it through the corridor and get around the corner for a birdie look.

The basket for hole 6 is in a cool spot, hanging in the center of a tree that is forked into three large trunks. It is sort of hidden from the tee, look to the left of the basket for hole 4.

The lake is a big factor on holes 8 and 11. The basket for hole 8 is not visible from the tee, and is surrounded by water on 3 sides. The peninsula isn't a ribbon, but it hasn't got much room for error. If you miss left, right or long there is a good chance your disc is under water. Hole 11 is pretty much over water the whole way, and has to carry about 275' to reach the far shore. The pin is on a sloping bank, and the thick grass helps it stick close to where it lands with any luck.

I also liked hole 15 a lot, which is the longest hole, and the largest drop from tee to pin. The tee is near the parking lot, and the fairway crosses roads and the end of the dam before turning to the right toward a basket on the fringe of the creek. There are tall trees to the right of the fairway about halfway through, and very heavy rough lies behind and beneath them.

Print a map to give you an idea where to look for the tees. There is little to mark them, with no signs. Some of them had pads made of wooden planks. They were not in good shape, dry and rotting with grass growing in the cracks. In wet conditions they're probably pretty slick. The holes without wood pads are sometimes marked with a tube standing to one side, or a metal marker on the ground.

There are holes that shoot over roads, cross fairways with other holes, and play next to playgrounds or fishing areas on the shore of the lake. I had families nearby while playing holes 7, 11, and 17. It didn't cause big delays, but be aware of others using the park.

There is poison ivy around, and some very heavy rough in a couple of places. No swimming, and the water is low visibility, so it will be a challenge to retrieve discs that go into the drink.

The basket on hole 1 had a limb fall on it at some point, and the lid is tilting to one side hard. There was a huge limb hanging from a tree on hole 2 that blocked a lot of the access to the basket.

Though I enjoyed the course, it could use a bit of TLC. The wooden tee pads have outlived there practical life span. I didn't have a lot of problems with them, but a natural tee would be as good or better. Signs to make them easier to find would be a great addition.

I thought the holes were well positioned, making a fun course with a good mix of shots. All par 3, with some birdie holes and a few long ones that can be tricky.

I shot a 55, with three birdies, two bogies and a double bogey. I should have been even or below, but I blew it on the last few holes. I went into the rough on 15, and it took a shot to recover, which I followed with a good approach. But I wound up missing a very makable putt for the bogey. I also lost a shot on 17 by clanking an easy birdie putt off of the cage.

Getting onto base was easy enough, I just showed my drivers license at the checkpoint. It was not as involved as getting into Fort Gordon in Augusta, didn't even have to exit my vehicle. If you are in the area this is a good 18 hole course very well worth a look.

This course is a course that is going to challenge your skill and test every shot in your bag. There are straight shots, dog leg left, dog left right and an epic shot over the lake on hole #11. Lots of change in elevation playing both uphill and down hill. The water threat is there on several holes, whether it be a creek like on holes 5, 8, and 18 especially.
Hole 8 was what I would call a signature hole, and I haven't seen another hole like this in KS. There were 2 playgrounds on site and a couple of porta potties as well. Very scenic view of Moon Lake and the course was clean of litter and very well groomed.
You had better throw a good drive on hole #11 because its go big or get wet. There is a good mix of both long and short holes ace well. We played here in the beginning of spring so the trees weren't in bloom yet and when they are I can only imagine how much tougher this course would play.

First off there needs to be better markers. As others have said the holes are marked with little white PVC pipes that stick out of the ground and then 2 gray colored round knobs, kind of like tee markers at a ball golf course. There are no tee signs and this takes this course down a bit in my opinion. There is a road that comes into play on a few holes and you will need to check to make sure you are not throwing at any oncoming traffic. This is especially true on holes 14 and 15. When we played we had to make sure no one was coming from behind us on #14 as you might want a spotter because you cant see the basket from the tee and your best view is out in the road. Be careful. This place was super crowded on a Friday at 12 pm and the weather was only 65 degrees outside. People were fishing around the lake and people were actually parked on the fairway of hole #8 and fishing off the back of the peninsula behind the basket, see the picture in the media section. Also the playground that is on #17 was busy on this day as well with kids running around.

Here are my observations upon my visit to Moon Lake:
1-Starts you off with a moderate length hole that has you throwing slightly up hill for the first 1/4 of the hole.
2-pretty much a straight shot and decent length
3-a short hole but placement is key to score well
4-up hill tunnel type of shot with thick brush on both sides of the fairway
5-downhill dogleg right with a creek and thick brush to your right
6-another straight shot but with a nicely placed hanging basket that is between 2 trees, see the pics
7-trouble on your right side and the basket is down the hill from the tee box
8-throwing downhill with water on both sides and you must land on the peninsula to have a chance at that duece. Very cool hole and is one of the coolest in the state.
9-another straight shot with decent length
10-a shot and Aceable hole
11-the map says 319' but it sure looks longer when you are on that tee box. Grip and rip because its go long or get wet here. Another cool hole
12-has a hyzer route(rhbh) and the hill slopes towards the lake. Basket is placed where the hill slopes so be careful of a roll away shot here.
13-has thick trees on both sides of the fairway
14-you can't see the basket from the box, but it is on the hill and your drive could very easily roll downhill if you don't place it well here
15-longest hole on the course, it is downhill so that helps, the lake is to your far left and there is a creek to your right for the last 200+ feet of the hole
16-another long hole with the slope on your right side
17-a short hole but you must find that correct line. There are 2 paths and it shoots up hill some but the pin is protected.
18-a downhill shot with a bunch of big rocks on the left side and a drainage area after the rocks. Make sure you land on the fairway here or you could be in trouble
Overall a very nice course that is going to keep you on your toes. It will test your arm and your mental approach as well as your patience depending on how you play certain holes. If there were tee signs and concrete pads this would be a solid 4 disc rated course for me. However for a first time player there is a bit of confusion as to were some of the tees are.
If you are in the area this course is a must play, if you are passing through I would give this course a play as well. It off of the beaten path a bit but if you have the time its well worth your time. Give it a try.

There are 18 baskets and all of them are in very good shape, so that's a good start. There is a LOT of shot variety, more than any other course I have played with a few exceptions. You will use every single disc in your bag at this course. The land is nice and the lake and its hazards have been well incorporated. I really like the basket on the peninsula (hole 8, i believe). Each individual hole is different and unique.

The tee pads are very poorly marked-There are about one foot long PVC pipes sticking out of the ground, some with numbers, some without, and little black circle things on the ground to show the end of that pad. There markings are not very visible and often misleading. I spend 20 minutes trying to find the first tee (on top of the hill, it is a wooden stake, which confused me because every other tee is a white PVC pipe). The tee points in a general direction, but sometimes you aren't sure if you are going to a basket behind you or which one you are supposed to go to in front of you. The map helps some, but it couldn't save the course from being a bit of a nightmare to navigate. Crossing fairways and poor markings made the confusing worse. There is no signage for disc golf leading into the park, and it is a bit far off the highway for a road trip round. There is no map on site for those who don't happen to have smart phones. Fairways and tees were muddy when I played and I slipped a couple of times. I know a lot of snow had just melted, but if they get that was after rain too it could be a hazardous course to play half the time due to moisture. Hole 18 ends a decent walk from the parking lot-The flow of the course is just very off. The first 11 have you crossing through roads and sites that look like they are shared often with other activities. The last few just lead you away from the parking lot and double back on each other. It seems like they wanted a longer course and so to get the desired distances they sacrificed flow. IMO, flow is the most important factor in a course and they pretty well botched it here.

If they could get some concrete tees or even rubber tees, put some signage of any sort indicating where to go after each hole, and maybe added a large course map about the entrance it would raise this course to about a 3.0, but the flow of the course is not enough to save it from being just another run of the mill course. If you are on a road trip along I-70 though Kansas, skip over this one and just play Frontier in Hays or Thomas and the two Lakewood 9 hole courses in Salina-They are a much better use of your time and are much easier to find, which is sad, because this land had/has tons of potential to have a great course with amazing flow, but unfortunately the designers were too concerned with individual shots that they sacrificed. the quality of the course as a whole.

Shot variety, shot variety, shot variety...this course makes you use it all. Low canopy, hyzer, anhyzer, tunnel, flick, etc. The terrain and elevation changes add to it as well. Course maps are available at the information stand at the entrance to the park. Grounds are maintained year round by the US Army as it's on an established recreational area on post. Bathroom facilities are on station as well as pavilions and playgrounds for the kids (not in the way of the course, don't worry).

No tee pads, yet. Tee pads are marked by stakes and markers on the ground. Intersecting fairways on 2-3 of the holes, but it's easily mitigated. Heard construction will be starting right down the middle of #13's fairway in the spring for the building of a new permanent bathroom facility, so that's a plus that there will be a permanent bathroom. But a minus that we're losing a hole...

All around good course, little bias because it's my home course, but it's solid. Still has a lot of work that needs done.
