Surprisingly Good Shape For A Middle School Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 21, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Given middle schoolers propensity for destroying things, I found this course at Clement Middle School to be a remarkable good condition. The # 2 tee sign is missing and the # 4 sign has been broke off but I don't think that's too bad, overall.

The course starts next to the tennis courts. There is a nice colored course map here (the same as the on-line map). The baskets are Innova Discatchers with the yellow band and a small number. The first basket is set in the berm 292' away. # 2 plays from out. On the BB courts to a basket on the berm. # 3, 4 and 5 play around the running track. # 6 plays down the first base side of the softball field and then # 7 plays back to the starting point. Then # 8 and 9 are on the other side of the school. They are actually my favorite two holes on this course.

Cons:

The design flow seems a little strange to me but there probably is a reason for it. I think it might have something to do with passing through the school to get to # 8 and 9.

There's been some vandalism but not much considering the neighborhood and this being a middle school and all. It would be easy for someone to paint the # 2 tee sign on one of the BB poles. Probably the same with the # 4 tee sign.

Other Thoughts:

I think this is a fairly good course for a middle school. I believe it could be shorter but middle school students to achieve more success. There's nothing wrong with having 125' holes for them. Also you have to keep them away from from any walls that they might throw discs over. It's amazing how wild and crazy and inaccurate some of their throws are.

Love the name of the course!

Not Asgard Approved 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course had nice baskets and probably is fine for kids to use during gym. Would be an okay local neighborhood spot to practice your approaches and putts.

Cons:

But the course was less than challenging, had no delineated tees. Some signs were there some were broken and some where missing. If there was any other sport going on, it would be pretty cluttered, especially around the basketball courts.

Other Thoughts:

I stopped over on the way from Yucaipa to bag another course, and decided to skip Ford park, because I heard it was hard to follow. But this park wasn't so easy either. While the sign/map was pretty comprehensive, you're still guessing at the tee areas. There's a lot nicer and more fun 9-holes out there.

Ok PE course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays around the other athletic fields on the grounds of an elementary school. Though the area is pretty much wide open, the few holes that have trees available use them pretty well to add some challenge. For experienced players, using the blacktop and other sports fields as OB also makes for a more interesting round with some risk/reward decisions. There is a mix of hole lengths, with several under 300' and a couple longer holes where most players will reach for a driver.

Cons:

The course lacks a real identity. It's far too long for most elementary school players, it would be frustrating for many kids to start out taking several shots across open fields on every hole. At the same time, only a couple holes have enough length to challenge better players, and there aren't nearly enough obstacles to make it very interesting to those players. I wish the design had recognized the intended audience a little better, I think schools are a fantastic exposure point for disc golf and when you make the sport fun and approachable for the kids you're more likely to get them hooked.

A couple tee areas were either not defined, or the sign was surrounded by sloped areas that weren't very good for teeing off. There is lots of potential for conflict with other field uses, especially with newer less accurate throwers. The flow is very odd, holes 8 and 9 would have made more sense as holes 3 and 4, and either way there are some long awkward walks between holes.

Other Thoughts:

Like I said above, I really like seeing school courses. Getting our sport introduced to kids and their parents is a really positive way to grow the sport. Don't come here looking for much of a challenge. It's an ok beginner course, nothing more.

My rating reflects how this course stacks up to all other courses I've played in terms of how fun they are for me, a low rating doesn't mean I think it's a bad thing that an elementary school has a course tailored more toward children than toward adults (though I wish the course was even worse for me and even better for those kids).

Pros:

- Brand new Discatchers
- Fun cement skip shots

Cons:

(Keep in mind i played this course when it was still pretty new, some of this might be different now)

- No tee's , had trouble figuring out where to throw from even with the map on my phone
- Short holes
- Alot of cross use , especially the holes around the basketball courts
- While the cement skips are fun, they are rough on discs

Other Thoughts:

I played this course during nocturnal wonderland 2012 , i wanted to play some disc golf but didn't wanna drive to Glen Helen and pay 7 bucks, plus it was EXTREMELY hot that weekend and i wanted to get a round in early , so i chose to check this course out. This course had potential to be a pretty good pitch and putt course.

A lot of trash on course from the softball fields and all trash cans were full.

2 in Town 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 20, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

1. First off the course has been in for 3 months and its still pretty raw. The addition to a second course in the town of Redlands will hopefully thin some of the crowd at the other disc golf course in town (Ford Park).
2. The course has brand new Innova DisCatchers with the new 28 chain staggered system. Bright yellow bands make for high visibility on the course and easy to find.
3. Having a map makes following the course very easy and smooth.
4. Very little traffic in the evening after school during the week. Weekends are picking up slowly off of word of mouth.
5. There are a few trash cans around the course like on holes1, 2, 8, 9, and 7.
6. Bathrooms are located near hole 2 and at the park right next to the school.
7. Parking lot holds 40-50 cars by hole 1 and the street next to the parking lot allows for parking on it so there is always a ton of parking.
8. There are stores within walking distance of the course and plenty of fast food locations. So getting food and drink for your rounds isnt a problem.
9. On two different sections of the course there are drinking fountains. Near hole 2 and hole 7 at the ball field.
10. This course isnt quite a pitch and putt but more of a midrange course. Hole 9 is the only hole where I could see a driver being necessary.
11. Plenty of area to do a safary layout and a few of the locals do play safary rounds with cool mandatories every week.
12. Trees and palm trees have been planted in a few areas to make for shade in the future and also deflect discs from traveling into the buildings.
13. Course is well kept up at the school, mowed and raked weekly to look nicely manicured everytime you arrive. Grass is watered aswell and it rarely ever gets dusty. Sometimes dry, but the majority of the time the schools field and land is prestine.

Cons:

1. First big con is course signage. The course signs are being constructed by the school, in wood shop or something like that. Well its been a few months and no signs. They really need to get the signs up and installed.
2. Bathrooms are locked some of the times and that makes it very inconvenient to have to walk to the park next door to use the rest rooms.
3. Shade, there isnt any. This course will be fine in the winter and spring, but in the summer when its open most of the time, the sun will beat you down and drain you fast. Needs more shade, sure they planted trees, but still needs more in other areas.
4. Biggest flaw of the course is the layout. The layout just doesnt flow smoothly. You find yourself back tracking to much and walking a lot between holes. I hope in the future they decide to correct this.
5. The course feels and definitely plays more righty friendly. Definitely not a nuetral course unfortunately.
6. The school's buildings come into play on a few holes and get hit alot, plus on hole 8 its very easy to throw onto the roof of the school. Design is fun, just not safe.
7. Three holes play really close to the fence of the park and are easy to throw over and that makes for a long walk to get your disc if you decide not to climb over the 8-10 foot fence.
8. Teepads arent well defined or worked into the soil/grass in a few spots. They need to be marked better. 5 holes tee off from concrete that already existed and need to have spray painted markings until the course gets signs.
9. Course is closed during the week during school hours. So with daylight savings about to occur you will only be able to play on weekends pretty much.
10. A few of the other sports activities at the school can come into play and slow things down if there in use later in the day.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a nice place to practice or play safary at. I would only come here to practice or play with the kids. Good distances for my young ones. I helped install the baskets here with a few others and was really excited to have another course in the area, just wish the layout was discussed more and we could of convinced the school for alternate pins that would of gave the course more eye appeal. Hopefully sometime this school year the teepads get defined and signs go up. Print the map and have fun.
