Layout - Overall it's a solid mixture of open holes and tight short wooded holes. I think the course is nicely balanced in how it mixes these up as well to keep the round flowing.

Some nice looking and fun open holes that give you elevation changes and bring water and other OB in to play on all of them. The open holes have more variance in distance than the wooded holes as well.

The wooded holes have a homegrown feel to them. They are mostly in the mid 200' range and tight requiring a shot shape and hitting multiple gaps. There's also a bit of elevation change on these as well. Most of them were fun shots I was pleasantly surprised.

The greens are well done here to force you to be accurate and considerate of where you are landing in juxtaposition to obstacles and OB.

There's a couple of par 4's thrown in to mix things up.

Equipment - The tees are marked with a numbered stone. The baskets were discatchers and newer. Those yellow bands came in really handy on the wooded holes here. There are signs scattered about helping you navigate where you should be transitioning.

Atmosphere - You're on a campus and I'd say about half of the holes you're out in the open in view of the parking lot/buildings. The open holes by the water are very picturesque; and #2 is great looking hole on just about any course. The wooded holes bring you more away from the noise a bit more.

Layout - The biggest problem are the holes that would seem to create some safety issues. They are all good holes if you know nobody is there but I didn't feel comfortable throwing some of them during a busy school day. Those that had full visibility are fine but some don't.

#1 has you throw 288' downhill blind of the road you're throwing towards before fading around a daycare playground. I threw from a lesser angle from about where #18's basket is.

#5 has you playing 655' down the side of the road in an area about 30' wide around a blind corner. I'd move the tee across the road down where you can easily see traffic coming both ways before throwing.

#17 you throw over the road parallel to it with the lot coming in to play. You can see the cars coming both ways but the cars in the lot were to close to comfort for me.

#18 was fine for me but some might not feel comfortable throwing it because it's parallel to the lot and finishes near it.

Besides that the flow of the layout was a bit confusing for me as a first timer. The signs help but when you get to the latter part with the open holes it's confusing on which basket goes with which tee. Definitely make sure you bring the map which is on here.

There's a lot of blind shots here in the woods as well so you'll need to walk up and find the basket repeatedly.

Equipment - The oft uneven gravel tees are not ideal, I didn't have an issue with them considering the length of most of these holes. That's a con for most though so I'm putting it here.

The tee signs are just rocks with numbers, you don't get a distance or hole map so again bring the map on here or your phone for info.

Atmosphere - If you enjoy solitude half of this course is not for you. Off fairway in the woods can be pretty rough. The wooded holes are never picturesque.

I was surprised in a good way by this course. If it were in a vacuum and non dg'ers were never around I could of probably gave it an even higher score. The fact remains I had to skip or play some holes not the intended way because I didn't feel comfortable and that's never something you want to feel while trying to enjoy yourself.

Overall I do recommend this course if you're in the area. I'd suggest maybe going on a weekend or later in the day when less traffic is about.

It's a place to throw discs.

Hard to navigate for a first time player. No signage. 1st hole is next to a daycare center, had to backtrack from hole 10 to find hold 3, could not find tee box for hole 4. Overgrown in some spots and an abundance of poison ivy. The tee pads are short and made of a slick chintzy plastic.

Probably better if you are familiar with the course but not a good first impression.

Really nice mix of open and wooded shots on this course. The wooded holes, in particular, not only give variety to this course, but to the Rocky Mount courses in general - no other park in Rocky Mount really gives you that deep woods feel.

All the fairways on the course were reasonable and required a variety of shots to set up for a birdie.

Overall, a huge improvement on the NCC course - I'd say it's now my favorite in the RM area (which is already AWESOME).

Some holes have gravel tees, which are pretty good, but others have "natural" tees. Some of these weren't even close to being flat - they were inclined and covered in roots, making it difficult to really put power behind a shot.

There were also a couple of areas in the wooded portion of the course where navigation was spotty. I would recommend having a copy of the course map with you when you play it for the first time. A few next tee arrows would easily fix this.

The road is a factor on a few holes, but in my experience it's not especially heavily trafficked.

I can't believe a city as small as Rocky Mount now has five full-length courses, but I love it. Kudos to whoever is behind this in the community.

I would encourage anyone who has written a review previously (for the former 9 hole layout) to play the course and update their review. I would hate for anyone to not play this course due to the low rating.

Walking up to four, I didn't think the hole would be playable. The trees must have grown in. But as I stepped up to the tee, and not until I reached the tee, the window appeared. Right between these two massive trees, across a small stretch of marsh and between sections of shrubbery on the other side and the basket in the crosshairs. A very interesting and fun hole that I did not see coming. Other than that course has some nice aesthetics with a stretch of holes near a pond with a fountain.

I don't see how one would ever be able to play 1 while school was in session. It might be the most ridiculous choice I have seen on a course. It's right there next to the library and on the path. The rest of the holes aren't much better, with a few playing parallel to the campus road and others playing through areas that seem like they should get heavy traffic. Throw in a day care center where a noob hyzer on 2 is sure to end up and this course is pretty much a weekend only play. It won't be very interesting on the weekend either but at least there won't be moving obstacles.

This course is very similar to the other beginner course, right down the road, Glover Park. This review will compare the two courses, so players can decide which one, or both, to play.

Here's where Nash is better than Glover:
- Elevation
- Variety
- A water carry (very short, but still something unique)

Here's where Glover is better than Nash:
- Baskets (Nash's baskets are fine, but Glover's are really, really nice)
- Nash has ant hills all over the place that you have to look out for

Both courses are very short. Not a big challenge for intermediate to advanced players.

Great for beginners, a good warm-up course for the better Rocky Mount courses, and it does have some decent elevation on a few holes. Don't go out of your way to play it, but if you're in the area or want to introduce someone to the game, this is a good one.

#3 and #4 were pretty cool holes. Baskets are in good shape.

Pads are small and slick if wet at all. No signage at all. Super overgrown over the summer.

3, 4, and 7 (just for ace run potential) are fun to play. If you're in the area, it's a nice warm up for the other courses in the area. Overall though, pretty boring in comparison for a disc course.

It's short, it's simple, it's mids and putters for the most part.
It's free, and it's well maintained seeing as it is on a state community college property.
It's a quick 9, with talks of expanding to a full 18 in 2013 or 2014.

No signs of any type. I had to place a call to a local player and get some sense of direction from him. Once you get a gist of layout, its simple to remember and follow later on.
Hole #2's basket can be confusing. The first basket in view is actually number 8's basket. #2's is to the LEFT of that, tucked slightly behind the trees by the fence.
I am not happy that hole 1 and 2 play so close to buildings and a child care center, but as long as players use WISE JUDGEMENT AND DISCRETION when throwing, it should be fine.

I like using this course as a quick warm up to play the other local courses like Englewood Park, Sunset Park, or Farmington Park. THese 3 are the real jewels of Rocky Mount NC disc golfing!!

Holes 3 and 4 were the only redeeming factor of the course. 3 throws down by the fountain with risk of water. 4 throws over a small ditch with risk of water.

No signage, small hard plastic tees that were hard to find initially.
Baskets are not numbers and will disappear if someone does not lock them!
Since baskets are not numbered it can be confusing. Hole 2's tee is pointed at basket for another hole while it's basket is hidden behind some trees near the Child Development Center.

Tees were hard to find, The tee for #3 is up by the speed bump.
7 has no pad, just 2 little flags. Hole 8's tee pad is right across the street from hole 7's tee pad.

Several safety issues. Hole 1's tee is just feet from the library and you throw towards a lamp and a large glass window 50 feet to the right of the basket. Hole 2 throws along a fenced in children's area, Hole 7 throws along the road. 9 throws over the corner of a parking lot at the library.

ADDRESS WAS WRONG.
I typed in the address in my navigator and it took me to an empty field. When I found the course the navigator said I was at 3424 N. Old Carriage Rd.
No signage to find the first tee. When you approach the course you can see 6 baskets from one spot with no clue where to start.
I found tee 5 first and played 5 to 4. I am very happy I did it this way because I got to finish with the 2 best holes. The first tee is just feet from the front enterence of the library.

This course needs 3 things desperately.
1. Security. Lock the baskets or the will vanish
2. Tee signs. you need to be able to find the tees.
3. a Sharpie. Put some numbers on the baskets to eliminate confusion. While you are at it write the distances on the tee pads.

Best 9 hole course I've played. With only three water holes, the water can come into play with a over-thrown toss or just a bad shot. Lots and Lots of Ace Runs especially with Advanced Players. Great Course for beginners.

Not even being a week old, I can understand that a new course takes time to fulfill it's potential. But this course needs some serious work. With some sort of plastic material for the tee-pads, it's easy to slip and bust your ass while completing a throw. While 8/9 of these holes are NOT over 300 feet, you really don't need to launch one (obviously). That being said, there needs to be concrete pads. The first hole is extremely hard to navigate, if you've never played this course. (Luckily, I was with the designer at the time.) For example, hole #2's tee-pad faces out in an open area and you can see a basket about 240 feet from you. You would think that you would throw towards that basket, but that is an entirely different hole. There is absolutely no way, anyone would ever know to throw towards any basket on any given hole. There needs to be some signs to let you know where your throwing to and where your going. I'm sure there are some OB areas (sidewalks, water, etc.) but again nothing is marked. I don't know whether some sidewalks come into play or not with hole #1 being 5 feet away from the basket in two different directions.

I'm simply giving this a 2.5 (decent/typical) average because, this is a very well designed course. I think it has potential to be a 4 or 5 average with all the improvements. I would hope in any later time frame, that RMDG would expand this course to 18 holes.
