Chetek Bulldogs 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 1, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

* Terrain*Mix of long and short* Begins and ends in same area*Holes have variety (not all righty Hyzer)

Cons:

* biggest con is the rough. It's horrible* Holes 6+9 need to be re planted* Tee pads are rubber and uneven* Signage is lacking* I believe it's hole 15 that you have no idea where the tee is.*No benches which isn't usually a con but given the terrain...it would be a major plus

Other Thoughts:

This course has potential. If it was maintained during the summer so that the thorny bushes would get you...it would be a huge plus. My favorite hole is hole 11. It's a wooded hole that has a little length to it and it has big pines. Holes 7,8,and 17 use the steep hill near the football practice field. The front 9 is all short with hole 1 being the longest at 302. Back 9 has a little more length. Really the saddest thing about the Chetek course is the lack of maintenance... especially on the front 9 where thorny bushes tear you up if you don't stay on the fairway. The grass on the back 9 (12-14) needs mowing a few times to maintain the shape of the fairways as well as keeping the rough manageable.

This dog has bite,in the rough 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 6, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Variety of Shots
Elevation on a couple of holes
Quality Baskets

Cons:

Rough has alot thorns that will cut you up
A couple tees are hard to find
Rubber tees are uneven, way to short

Other Thoughts:

This course is alright, there are some fun lines, All holes are birdable. The front nine has five holes in a row that are 200' and under and all open lines to the basket. While there is nothing wrong with having a shorter hole every once in a while when there are five in a row it gets boring. A couple of holes in the back play in a field of prairie grass so if you don't land on the fairway you will be searching for a while, The fairways are reasonable but could benefit from a couple feet wider.

Overall this course is probably worth 2.5 but as another reviewer mentioned it is wildy overgrown, the fairways are punishingly tight due to overhanging branches and the rough is a thicket of thorns. And that drops it a half point since the issue could be easily remedied

Never Maintained. A Damned Shame. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 17, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course has a great variety of holes. From open field shots, to heavy tunnels and everything in between. You're throwing a different shot on almost every hole.

They just expanded it to 18 holes this year and the new back nine is a lot of fun and mirrors the pace of the front.

Cons:

It's NEVER maintained. The play time for this course is late winter and early spring... and that's it. Overgrowth completely swamps every hole and there is simply no way to play once a the green has come in. The fairways become the rough, and the rough becomes a thicket that will shred you. This is also the worst course as far as ticks go for me. I've pulled dozens off over the course of a round before.

Signage isn't the greatest, and it can be difficult to find the next hole occasional.

Other Thoughts:

This is honestly a fantastic little course. It has a ton of variety and not much chance of losing a disc. I would recommend this to most players in the are IF it weren't a giant shrubbery at this point. I'll be sure to update the review if this changes and I haven't been out there for a little while now but beware if you're looking to play. It can bite you as much as the ticks.

Needs maintenance badly 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 8, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Could be a good technical course if cleaned up

Cons:

Only hole one is adequately maintained. Every other hole has knee-high or taller grass, weeds, thistle, and nettles.

Other Thoughts:

Mosquitos are atrocious in the wooded areas.
Don't even bother adding the back nine unless the front can be maintained better.

Update 2013 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

New hole layout on 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 make it much more enjoyable and challenging. Nice range of shots. The new hole 9 will be spectacular once it is cleared and playable!

Cons:

The wood were clear cut this past winter leaving some brush piles. (Luckily) the fairways have been cleared

Other Thoughts:

Keep in mind the front nine were designed for the school students to learn and play Disc Golf. The school has purchased an additional nine which will be made to be more challenging and longer for the more experienced players. look to see the back nine start to go up towards the end of Summer 2013.

Great work in progress 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 19, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The course received a makeover this year and is much improved. Mostly short shots in the woods that require finesse, but there are a couple longer, open holes too. Nice fairways have been cut to make ace runs good (I got #9). Elevation also influences just about every hole. Overall, a very unique setup. Gets little traffic.

Cons:

No tee pads. There is currently a tree down on #4, leaving no room for run up. Walk back from #9 to #1 is very long. Area off the fairway are thick with buckthorn, brush and other plantlife that makes getting back on track tough. Navigation could be tough for first-timers. Look for the wood posts to find tees. There are cinder blocks with arrows pointing to the next tee, but not on every hole and they get covered up sometimes. Fairways get a little overgrown due to lack of traffic.

Other Thoughts:

There are plans to make a tougher back 9 to tie the whole course together. Judging by the terrain, elevation will be a factor on the back nine, it will be tighter and there will also be some field shots. Unlike many woody courses, this one is not repetitive. Course is great for beginner and intermediate players and I'm sure pros would still find a few of these holes pretty fun. 2,4 and 7-9 are my favorites. Don't overlook Barron County (Barron HS, Reeve, Rice Lake) for fun, intermediate-level disc golf in Northwest WI. There's some good courses to tie together a roadtrip from Eau Claire/Menomonie to far Northern Wisconsin.

Chetek course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice, new baskets.
Quick nine hole layout.
Nice use of elevation and it plays into and out of some woods.
Fairly easy course, making it great for beginners.

Cons:

Natural tee-pads.
No maps... yet.

Other Thoughts:

This is a new course in the town of Chetek. It's a great course for beginners, as it's relatively short and easy. The layout plays through the woods and there are some nice elevation changes. The course also plays along side the baseball field and near some of the track and field stuff. Hole #9 might be unplayable during the school year when practices are going on.
Advanced players will have fun using this course for ace runs and confidence building rounds.
All in all this is a fun course that can be played pretty quickly. It's in a town with few courses nearby, or courses that are under construction, and it compliments the property it's on. This is a fun course for families, beginners, and groups looking for fast rounds.
