Father’s Day #9: Sad Camp, River 5 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 22, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well, I have confirmed that Happy Camp, River 9 course does exist; unfortunately I must also report that it has been all but abandoned. Happy Camp is a small town located on the Klamath River along highway 96. It has seen happier days. The lumber industry has pretty much left town and devastated the local economy in the process. This course is but one of the casualties. The town is lined with closed and for sale signs, with no relief in sight. The tourist industry along the Klamath just isn't enough to support the town. With a local we found at the park, we were able to confirm there were nine baskets, although only 5 are still visible, the other 4 have been completely overgrown with thick brush.

Cons:

All but abandoned. If there were tees or signs they are long gone now. Only baskets remain.

Other Thoughts:

There are 9 baskets, still in halfway decent shape, which I suppose leaves the possibility of a resurrection with a little brush clearing. I was told by the locals that they had just started rehabbing the park, the other side of the park looks beautiful, they had just unburied a dirt race track from underneath the brush and held races for Father's Day Weekend, there's actually a video online showing what they had to do to uncover it. The course is in much the same condition. I was told by locals that the designer of the course had gotten a divorce and moved away, and there really hasn't been much interest in the course. Occasionally a PE teacher from the neighboring school will come out and bring the kids to throw at the five in the field but the four in the brush are ignored. I don't see a whole lot of interest here in restoring the course, so any one else should probably not make a special trip out here unless they hear differently before coming.
Well, next course, on to Cecilville.
Hmm.
Where the heck is Cecilville?
