Perfect Course for a Small Town 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

A lovely green space with enough trees and distance for a fun round.

-Atmosphere: Right in the heart of downtown Peachtree City. The course plays up and back a flat stretch of meadow with trees and a creek, making it feel simultaneously village-like and secluded. There's also a cool shot on (4) that throws under a cart bridge.

-Shot Shaping/Gameplay: Nine interesting holes making use of the trees. Distance ranges from sub-200' to about 360', and every hole requires some manner of shaping--primarily straight shots and right-turning shots. The holes are very birdieable, but not so easy as to be boring, since a misfire will often drop you straight down in front of whatever tree you hit.

-Navigation: Despite the absence of signage, navigation is a breeze. Each tee is obvious from the previous basket, with the exception of (7), where you have to tee off from the cart path at the top of the hill.

-"Friendly": My label for the combination of easy-to-play, navigable without a map, well kept up, and hard-to-lose-discs.

Cons:

-Amenities: The baskets are acceptable single-chains. That's about it. No signage whatsoever exists any more. Tee pads are rubber but pretty slick with dirt, and too small for any kind of run-up (which weaker arms will want for the longest holes). I saw one bench, which was in the middle of fairway (1).

-Flatness: Only one moment of any elevation change, which is throwing from the top of the hill on (7).

-Overlap: Because the course plays up and back along the same stretch, there's a high probability that some of these fairways will bleed into each other. More dangerous, tee pads are usually inside the circle of the previous hole. I doubt the course holds more than 2 or 3 groups safely.

-Variety: Although I really like the style of Village Green, it could get monotonous. I personally thought nine holes was just about right. However, in terms of ratings, the lack of variety holds it back.

-Golf Carts: I had to stop more than once when residents drove their golf carts along a bordering path. Just expect a couple of short delays, since the city is built around that mode of transportation.

Other Thoughts:

What a great course for Peachtree City. It fits in perfectly (as long as it's not busy), and provides a leisurely round for both beginners and experienced players. The bad tees and safety issues keep it from a 2.5, but it's one of my favorite nine-holers yet and makes a nice diversion.

-Parking: Most of the time the parking lot of the Presbyterian church is a good place to park. While you're out, you can cross the street and enjoy a nice lake view if you'd like.

Nice little par 2 style course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 15, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Really pretty little park with pretty much just the course on it's limited space.

Parking at the curch/library or park across the street is able and rarely crowed.

The grounds are well maintianed and the flow is fairly nice as long as it's not crowded. I think the longest hole(hole 8) is probably 330 or so, and most of them are 200 or thereabouts.

The shots are somewhat fun and though they aren't that challenging, you do need to hit your line.

can easily be played in 20 mins on a lunch break with a good midrange(which is exactly what I did). with just my Bard in tow I shot a 22 and never felt much pressure on any shot.

Shots under the bridge and from the upper path down on #4 and #7 are pretty cool.

Cons:

It's an older pitch and putt 9 hole, so most of this goes without saying.

It's short, and the baskets are kind of old. Tough only one was in less than good condition and could easily be fixed.

The pads are tiny and it throw with anything beyond stand and deliver you will either need to start well behind or you will spill over into the fairway.

The paths cross one another or come so close that if the course were crowded, or there was any kind of event here I would be genuinely concerned for the safety of the players.

Other Thoughts:

Really cool use of a rather small green space to make a fun little 9 hole in a busy community.

It's a really cool thing that they have let it be built and maintained it for nearly two decades.

Not a perfect course, but for a 9 hole course installed in 1999 to be worthy of a 3 I would consider that well worth playing.

Village Green 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 10, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Has rubber tee pads

Mostly open and flat fairways - should be nice for the beginner

Course navigation is straightforward

Water near holes #1 and #9 is not really a factor in losing a disc

Most of the course plays under shade - which is appreciated in the hot and humid summers here

Well-maintained

Free parking across the street near the Library and City Hall (parking can get limited at times on a nice day)

Cons:

Has no tee signs

Park is popular and can get crowded with other parkgoers

Course design could use improvement - some of the tee pads are very close to the baskets from the previous hole

Golf cart path crosses #1 and #9 fairways and runs along holes #7 and #8 - one can expect some delays

Crisscrossed fairways on holes #5 and #6

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice, little course to play in a park in Peachtree City. This course won't blow you away but does offer the player an experience to throw under a golf cart bridge. This course might be nice for the beginner or junior but I think experienced players will find it boring. There are lots of safety issues that I described earlier. Stop by and play to bag if you're in the area but it's not a destination course. This course serves as a good warm-up to nearby McCurry Park.

Pros:

Fun to play with a child(played it w/ my son) Really good spot to pitch and putt on a lunch break. Fast and easy to park and begin play. It is a unique and cool way to use the space. Fun for anyone that looks for places to play when they travel. I was just a few miles away and always keep discs in the car... so it was a great spice to the day to get in a random round. this ia an especially cool course when playing with a kid or a beginner. Very Shady.

Cons:

Tees and targets are close - if there is any course conjestion then it could result in injury. Close to a Church playground area. There are alot of golf carts passing on a nearby cart/walking path.

Other Thoughts:

For a catching a quick game while passing through the area, or playing on a break this will be a fun and cool little spot. However, not worth planning a major detour or drive just to seek it out. Recommend to anyone passing by or with kids and/or beginners in the sport. Catch a quick round over lunch... it is over before you even break a sweat.

Pros:

-great use of space and tee/basket placement
-central location, easy to find once you know about it
-easy to navigate
-ample parking and across the street from the library for us bookish types

Cons:

-several low areas of the course pool water during rainy times, including all around basket 8 making it unplayable during rainy times
-high traffic course with golf cart trails cutting through, more than once i have been rushed by the people behind while having to wait on those ahead.
-manhole to sewer on hole 5 gets pretty rank on hot and wet days.
-lots of trash in the woods, high traffic course gets minimal respect
-a church play yard is on the right of the 8th hole, seems too close to be safe

Other Thoughts:

Despite all the cons this is a very fun. very playable course. the holes are quite thoughtful for the space allowed and the bridge is a fun distraction. However, it could use more maintenance than it gets, (the grass has only been mowed once this summer that i know of) and the basket for hole 8 could really stand to be moved at least just in front of the ocean of a puddle that it is in for at least half the year. theres also another mudhole just after the bridge on hole 4 with the first of two sewer manholes on the course right in the middle of it.
Overall this is a great practice course but is little more than that. Its worth a play but don't go too far out of your way. It seems like a city that is so dependent on ball golf for its local economy (there are 3 major courses here) would pay a little more attention to the rest of us. oh well, lets see what the future brings

Pros:

- This course makes use of trees and a bridge to add some interesting holes.
- Located close to a major road and plenty of places to park
- Good for those days when you do not have much time to play

Cons:

- There are only 9 holes
- There are only dirt tee-pads
- The baskets are older, though in fine condition, and do not have double chains
- Pedestrians and golf carts need to watched for carefully, as some of the pathways are blind.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a short, nine hole park located in Peach Tree City. It is not very challenging for upper level players, but would be a nice course for beginners to start learning on. Other than old baskets and dirt tee-pads, the only problem is traffic through the course in the way of golf carts. Hole #1 is specifically troublesome because you cannot see if a cart or pedestrian is approaching from the pad. All in all, it is a fun course if you are just looking to throw, especially if you want to play a "putter round", but may be lackluster for adv player. I say play it if you are in the area, but don't drive a day to play.

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 27, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Village Green is a small little 9-hole course located in the heart of Peachtree City. The course is short and simple, could be considered a pitch and putt type course for more seasoned players.

Course Essentials:
-Baskets: Innova DISCatchers (older baskets showing signs of wear and faded numbering)
-Tee Signs: NONE
-Tee Markers: 4x4 Wooden post (marker only, no hole information available)
-Tee Pads: Natural (Dirt) tees with a 4x4 post buried in ground to mark the front of the box

General Course Design & Layout:
-Elevation: Primarily Flat
-Fairway Variety: (1) Right to Left, (3) Left to Right, (5) Straight
-Distance: 2240ft TOTAL (249ft avg/hole)
1 @ <200ft, 3 @ 200-250ft, 5 @ 250-300ft
-Hazards: Water hazards on hole 1/9 (Small Creek)
-Navigation: Simple & Straightforward (a couple of issues noted in cons section)
-Maintenance: Good

Village Green DGC is a short, simple design that provides a decent layout which utilizes the land and resources appropriately. The course plays through an open area with trees that line the outskirts of the property. This setup allows pin placements that force straight and/or slightly left to right (or flex) type tee shots to access the pin. Despite the small space, most of the pins are placed in position to be guarded by the tall, mature scattered throughout the property.

Hole 4 is cleverly designed to play under the golf cart bridge that spans the width of the course. This hole requires a low shot with a left to right shot path to a pin that is guarded on the left side by a tree. A small area of grass is intentionally left longer to prevent rollers (or at least to make them very difficult here). The low ceiling created by the bridge and the grass preventing the roller forces a low left to right shot path, very nice design on this one.

Cons:

-SAFETY CONCERN: The tee for hole 6 sits roughly 30ft from 5's basket in direct line with 5's tee. If you are teeing off on hole 5, you will be throwing directly at the tee for hole 6. There appears to be plenty of room on the right side in this area to move the basket for 5 away from the tee pad for 6, but there may be unforeseen reasons why this is not possible. With low volume traffic on the course, and high visibility of the hazard area, there is limited potential for someone to actually get hit, but either way, this area is in serious need of a redesign.
-Missing Course Essentials: There are no tee signs on the course. Most baskets are visible from the tee, but either way there is no information about the hole (distance, layout, etc.).
-Small, Compact Design: The area is very narrow, if multiple groups are playing the course, there will be times where you could be throwing toward other groups in close proximity.
-Navigation: Although the course is small and simple, some of the tees can be difficult to locate the first time through the course (a couple of small signs could resolve this)
-No Ammenitites: Trash cans, restrooms, course maps, scorecards, etc...

Other Thoughts:

This course is a great place for beginners/new players and children to learn about the game. Just use caution if there are other players on the course, be aware of where other players are located and where they may be throwing. It is also a good place for someone looking to play some DG with a limited time schedule. I'm guessing you could play the course pretty easily in 20min (give or take a couple minutes). The course is well shaded, clean, compact and simple. If you are looking to play a quick round or a new course, or just need a place to warm up or practice upshots and putting, check it out.

Pitch and Putt practice course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Village Green DGC is a short 9 holer located Southwest of Atlanta's city limits.

This course is suited for the introduction of new players and could probably be used as a pitch and putt practice course.

Tees are marked with standing 4x4s and most holes have a 4x4 laying in the ground to designate the front of the tee boxes. Tee pads are natural, but really doesn't make a difference as all "drives" are pretty much approach shots.

Baskets are older DISCatchers, single layer chains, with shallow baskets. Baskets were freshly painted, which was made obvious by the remnants of blue tape left at the tops of the chains.

This course requires little energy to play, entirely on flat land other than the tee pad on hole #7, which requires you to walk up a slight hill. Tee pad not marked with a standing 4x4, but has one laying in ground along cart path.

Cons:

I am affraid the cons outweigh the pros of this course, even though the cons don't make the course unplayable by any means.

Tee boxes lack any bit of signage. Other than a marker there is no hole number, distance, par or map, which may confuse a first timer on the course.

No trash cans located on the course, so be courteous and carry any trash you may create and take it with you.

The course is quite repetitive. All holes are a straight shot, although some have spotty trees around the baskets. Very little variation in distance as well. If you can throw a midrange disc straight you should have no problem shooting way under par on this course, even if you hit a tree or two.

My biggest con deals with the placement of the baskets vs tee pads. Basket positions are located extremely close to the next tee pads. When I say close, I mean less than 10 steps between them. Hole #5's basket is positioned with #6's tee pad right in front. This can be quite hazardous if this course happened to be crowded, which I wouldn't expect it to be. Course would be played most safely if groups give 1 hole spacing in between, which could get a bit rediculous if there were 5 groups or more on the course at a time.

Other Thoughts:

Village Green is a passable DGC. Local players might be able to get some use out of it, but there is no reason to go out of the way to play it, unless you are looking to add a quick course to your played list. VG was a nice warm up for McCurry Park DGC, located about 10 miles east down GA-54. Actually spent more time trying to find the course than playing it, playing solo took no more than 15 minutes.

If you decide to visit VG, take I-85 South from downtown ATL. Exit 61, GA-74 and make a left(south towards Peachtree City). Travel about 10 miles, hang a left on GA-54. Turn right at the SECOND Willowbend Rd, less than a mile down GA-54. Course is located on right, just before the church. Parking in church parking lot puts you right at first hole, which is right against Willowbend Rd. Additional parking located across the street along with restroom and facilities.

Nice little course in a nice little city 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 23, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Lots of shade, perfect on a day like today that was 90+ degrees. A decent amount of distance for such a small course. A quiet and secluded feeling area even though it is in the middle of town. A new club in town is taking care of the course.

Cons:

The land is pretty narrow so a couple holes are rather close where if you actually ran into someone else playing you would be throwing at each other.
A couple tees are very close to the previous basket.
Hole 8 has a bench right in front of the basket.
No numbers on the tee poles but the course was relatively easy to figure out...one round fixes this problem.

Other Thoughts:

The new club has recently repainted the baskets so they are all very visible. The chains were not as badly rusted as others have mentioned as well so they might have done something with them too. Even though they are the older disc-catchers they caught pretty well.
The course has decent distances and a few trees and low hanging branches as obstacles. A few holes also run along the creek which could punish you badly if you griplock or overshoot the basket.

Hole 4 and 7 are probably the signature holes and they both deal with a cart bridge. Hole 4 shoots under it and hole 7 tees off from it so you get a "top of the world" type experience on a flat piece of land.

Overall a pretty nice course for a hot day as there are only a few spots where you are out in the sun.

There is a little park directly across the street that has restrooms.

Nice little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 23, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice nine hole course set on a relatively small piece of property. It is a dedicated disc golf area so you do not have to worry about other people here. The main obstacles are the large trees dotting the property. There is a small stream running the right edge of the property and can come into play with errant shots. Hole one tee shot over water is fun and I especially liked hole four playing under a bridge. The course is clean and well maintained. There was no one else on the course the day I was there and this allowed me to pick a basket to play to and make my own challenges. You can add all the distance you want doing this. Great place to work on any shot you are weak in with the lack of people. Great place to practice and hone your skills.

Cons:

The baskets are the old Innova baskets with single sets of chains that are very rusty. The numbers on the baskets are fading making difficult to read at times. They did however seem to catch very well. We had a lot of rain the day I played so there were some wet spots. The tee boxes were natural dirt and a little soft due to the rain in places. However you could always find a spot next to the marked box. No signs that I could find on the course at all only numbers on the baskets and 4X4 stakes to mark the tee boxes.

Other Thoughts:

If you just play the normal 1 thru 9 here you really don't need anything more that midrange and a putter. However if you pick and choose you can have just about any shot you like.

Pros:

Wow, what a fun little course. This very short nine hole course gives you a chance to just relax and enjoy the game for what it is. You won't find any challenge to speak of but you will have a good time just getting out and playing.

This course gives a lesson to anyone wanting to build a course on a small section of land. They have used ever inch of it perfectly.

One's tee pad is set behind a small creek and even though it is only fifteen feet in front of you it is still always fun to throw over water. The next few follow its banks but don't really come into play. Number four is memorable as you have to throw under a golf cart bridge to reach the basket. It is again a nice use of existing land and structures. As you play back you will find that the tee pad for seven uses the paved path leading to the bridge as the tee pad. This gives a little elevation to an otherwise flat course. Everyone loves a little downhill shot, especially when an ace run is waiting. It's on through eight and finally nine where a nice punch out waits. It is only a few feet in front of you but still gives a bit of nostalgia to the hole. The creek runs behind the basket so that adds to the difficulty.

This is the superb course for kids and new players. Several churches are in walking distance and I ran into some youth groups that were using the course. What a great way to introduce young players to the sport.

One and nine end beside each other so it is convenient in that regard. The course flow was easy to follow. Basically just follow the perimeter of the park. Parking is close to holes one and nine.

If you want to get an ace, this is the place to go!

Cons:

The old single chain Innova "DISCatchers" have seen better days. Considering their age they are still in decent shape but new baskets are due. Missing signs are a disappointment but won't be a big problem on such a small course although 4x4 posts mark the tees and faded numbers were visible on some. Tee pads were natural and had the expected problems. No run ups are necessary so that should not affect your game at all.

As primarily a forehand thrower I felt like I had an advantage on most holes. The woods to the right of the fairways on most of the holes won't allow a backhand shot to get much hyzer. You'll have to run strait at the basket or put a little Anhyzer on you shot. This is actually a pro if you are looking for a little challenge.

Once I pulled up to the course I realized there are no bathrooms. You may consider stopping before you park.

Other Thoughts:

If this were my home course I would defiantly have to make up some new tees to add a little distance. Maybe shoot from two's tee to three's basket and so forth. Also some OB's could make this course a little more difficult. For example, two through five run opposite six through seven. An imaginary line between them would be a start. Add the woods on the sides and you could add a lot of challenge to this course.

Again this course is great for kids and new players. In that case it is just fine the way it is.

Also, the more courses i play the more i appreciate location, location, location. There are other much more and all-around better courses, but thats not worth a whole lot when theyre too far out of the way. This course is right off the main highway of PTC, and is generally always well-maintained. Theyve done well with the space they have in this park. Still... No excuse for not having more and bigger courses in the area. >

I play this more than other courses because its close. We need a course in Newnan and a better one in Carrollton. But its nice for practice and because its quick to play several holes. Hard to lose a disc.

Cons:

Not too challenging, but there are some alternate holes that local regulars can show you that make it more interesting. A lot of pedestrians and yuppies on their golf carts.

Good little 9 hole par 3 course. Great for people who haven't been playing the sport that long or for just bringing friends up there who haven't played before. Mostly flat and pretty straight shots on every hole. Pretty easy to navigate through out the course even though there are no signs, but the course design has it set up with an easy flow.

Cons:

Not very challenging for advanced players. No long distances, and few elevation changes. The tee pads are dirt and if wet not much traction. It is a multi use park so there is usually a lot of traffic going through and around the park, so be careful for pedestrians. Baskets aren't in the best shape but they don't spit out too many putts.

Other Thoughts:

Over all just a "practice" course. If you are looking for a real challenge if you have played before I would suggest you drive a few minutes down the road and go play McCurry Park. But if you don't have much time this is a pretty fun course.

Cons:

Other Thoughts:

Villiage green is a very "cute" course in Peachtree City. The 9 hole course weaves between a road and a cart path, and yes, there are carts aplenty. Other than the glances from the rich looking down on your hippie activity (Just Kidding) a person can have a ton of fun here. Its gets real fun when you mix and match tees with baskets.

But from a reviewing perspective, I have to give a 2.5 because of standards. This one just doesnt stand up to the others in the area. Its short, has crappy tees, some baskets could use some reconditioning, only has 9 holes. But if you were giving a grade on fun... this one would deserve at least 4 stars.

There are usually locals playing who are always nice and friendly. Scenery is nice to look at while you're playing. It's a great course if you only have 45 minutes and you're close by.

Cons:

Not really for professionals. Tee boxes are just dirt and a piece of wood. Tee markers are sometimes tough to find. I think a map somewhere would be beneficial. Unless you know the course its difficult to figure out how the course works. First few holes dont throw to far to the right or your disc is either going into the ravine or the road.

Yeah, it might not be the best but everytime i go out there i have a lot of fun. if you get bored just play the course backwards! This is actually a fun place to play a little safari golf but be careful for other people in the park.

Cons:

Tees are dirt and I don't remember much in the way of tee signs. The course is in a multi use park but the only other things there are picnic tables and benches. You have to be very careful for people at the picnic tables, benches and people on golf carts riding on the path through the park though. There is a high probability of hitting someone here if the park is busy.

Other Thoughts:

There's not much interesting about this course but it's a place to play if you live in the area. Every hole is gettable in 2. You just have to string them together and not miss anything.

I always parked in the church parking lot that's near hole 1. If you do that be sure not to park too close to the basket. It's not all that far from the road and I've seen discs get through there and hit cars.

For a more difficult disc golf experience in the area head up the road to the new course in Fayetteville.

A comment regarding my evaluation of courses. I am not trying to insult or hurt any ones feelings when I review a course. I'm just trying to evaluate the course on what I feel are important characteristics of a good course. Disc golf has become a large enough sport that I feel we should strive for better than we have now. Just putting 18 holes in a park isn't enough. 18 pole holes does not make a disc golf course. It requires tee's, signs, maps, solid course design and constant maintenance. Any less than that and we will never advance the sport to a reputable level.

Pros:

While some consider the shortness of the course to be a con, I have found it to be a benefit when introducing new players to the sport. Not only is the course only 9 holes, but each hole is relatively short and straight forward. The worst hazard that a player must contend with is the creek bed that runs along the right of holes 2, 3, and 4.

Although short, the course is well designed, taking into account altitude changes, such as the downhill approach on 7 and the uphill approach on 5, both being rather deceptive.

Cons:

The tees are natural with a lot of root coverage. The 8th tee has a huge hole in the middle of it where a rock was removed at some point. Even though players have tried to put the dirt back into the hole, it continues to exist. The baskets are well worn and the tops could use a good coat of krylon.
