Pros:

1) Moderately maintained city park surrounded by sports fields with ample parking, clearly designed for beginners and novice players. Nothing aesthically pleasing unless you are lucky enough to see a train passing by as you navigate the back side of the course.

2) Very solid distances and shot shapes for beginners and recreational players. Longer distances than most 9 hole beginner centric designs which lends to allowing a player to grow their game into this course.

3) No real chance at losing a disc as there is only a very small shallow creek as far as water features, and tall grass/brush only comes into play on the extreme perimeters of the course.

4) Very open throwing lines with some but not overwhelming guardian trees. Definitely balances the feel of open field golf with some slight technicality but makes most holes forgettable and similar in everything but distance.

5) Trees and greens are undercut and lack brush and are mowed and maintained. There really isn't any place to "get yourself into trouble" with errant shots and makes scrambling really easy.

6) A surprisingly long 9 hole course, coming in over 3'200 feet. There are a couple holes pushing or exceeding the 450 foot mark while encompassing some shorter holes as well meaning players of all skill levels will utilize most of their bag. Definitely not just a putter pitch and putt course.

7) All the right equipment, large textured concrete tee pads in great shape, older but well maintained Discatcher baskets, practice basket right next to parking lot adjacent to hole #1, full color but somewhat dated holes signs and a large introductory course map/sign.

8) Course navigation is intuitive. You basically play in a large continuous circle around the sports fields in a clockwise motion. U-Disc or course map can assist but is not needed.

9) Extremely fast course to play, solo round between 30-45 minutes and a solo two loop 18 can be done in a hour to hour and a half (whether that be two loops here or combined with he other 9 hole course just down the road)

10) Didn't see any trash cans beyond hole 1 and near hole 9 basket that I can recall but the park looks well maintained and never encountered any trash or debris.

Cons:

1) Below average 9 hole course that doesn't offer much in terms of beauty, difficulty, or variety (other than distance). No signature or really memorable holes and you'll find yourself struggling to remember the hole number shortly after you play when trying to describe a hole or "remember that shot on that one hole". Very bland.

2) Lack of difficulty. This can go both ways, but the lack of demanding tunnel shots, forced shot shapes, tricky greens, and the relative flatness of the property all make this course a very easy hyzer fest for those with even moderate skill.

3) There are no benches and very little chance throughout to get out of the sun. The park ammenities exist, such as shelter houses, bathrooms, and water fountains but they are not anywhere close to the actual disc golf course or the route you take.

4) As mentioned above, no natural beauty or sights to be seen. Pretty open park with ball fields, chain link fences, and railroad tracks. The road, some houses, and several buildings are the only sights in all directions. So if the setting and the sights are part of your experience you want, this one isn't it.

5) As with a lot of HB's designs there are some lengthy walks between holes (6 basket to 7 tee pad) and #9 basket back to where you parked just to name 2. Although mostly flat, the small creek can add even more distance if you are using a cart because you will have to detour around it to find places to cross on several holes.

6) Lack of trees and open fairways present the danger of crossing into other fairways, especially from hole 3 on through hole 6. Not really a concern for more skilled players, but for the novice players this course targets, it can really become an issue if multiple people are on the course at once. There is also a walking trail that pretty much follows the perimeter of the property that coincides with most of the course. Though no one was using it at the time I was there, I could see this being a decent problem.

7) Just unimpressive and is hurt more by the fact that there aren't any really solid courses close by. Definitely not a destination course and probably a skip unless you are local course to be honest.

Other Thoughts:

Doctor's Park can be paired with Old City Park right down the road (another 9 hole course) and possibly even add HH Lovett Park (another 9 hole course in Benton not super far away) to make a 27 hole three course mini day but none of them are spectacular enough to warrant a trip for just that. Right off the instate 24 Calvert City exit, so for baggers in the Paducah area you can certainly drop in and knock these courses out before heading on to your next bigger destination.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 19, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

All essentials- concrete tees, 9 baskets plus a practice basket, effective signs, course map at kiosk. Plenty of parking.

I have played many of these basic city park 9-holers. What makes this one stand out is its length, and a good spread of nearly every distance between 250' to 475'. Mostly open gives newer players a chance to work on distance and understanding disc flight without being punished or losing a disc. And there are just enough trees and a small creek to make it interesting.

The last 3 holes also use elevation as an added challenge. Throw in the wind I had to deal with and this course played harder than it looked.

Cons:

Design makes the most out the available land, but is clearly divided- 6 flatter holes on one side of the ball fields, a walk, then 3 more holes with some incline on the other side, then a moderate walk back to the car.

No holes were super memorable just your basic city park stuff.

Other Thoughts:

I always recommend taking a picture of the map, but be sure to pay attention where holes 7-9 are as they are separated from the first 6 a bit

Appropriate small city 9-hole park style course. And a bonus is that that it is very close to another 9-hole course less than a mile down on the same street that is more a technical wooded city park course, making these two 9's a good complement to each other for 18 unique holes.

2.5 is average, nothing outstanding, but definitely has everything you need. I have it about 2.25, but give it a bump because there are no gimmees and there is a another 9 holes just a minute drive down the road.

Doctor Doctor, Give Me The News 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 5, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

(1.935 Rating) Doctor's Park is the perfect place for newer players.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - This is a very solid beginners and rec course, and they will love this course alike. No chance to lose a disc unless you put it way up in a tree. The fairway lanes are very wide or even completely open and there's only one small water hazards. In addition, for the tree areas that are here, there's no overgrowth underneath, which makes for round where most errant shots aren't further punished.
- LENGTH FOR A 9 - At 3,200 feet, one of the longer 9 holes courses I've played. A couple holes over 450 feet meaning that 99% of the players out there will have a chance to use their driver.
- CHAINS - Yeah DISCatchers.
- TEES - Nice sized concrete tee pads and in great shape. There should be no footing issues on this course.
- NAVIGATION - Really easy. There's a course map by tee (1). The holes mostly stack one after another. I only checked my map once between (6) and (7). The hole signage was adequate and showed hole #, distance and obstacles.
- QUICK PLAY - A single could easily complete a full 9 in less than 30 minutes. Groups of 4, twice thru, should probably finish in less than two hours.
- MAINTENANCE - The grounds appear to be mowed weekly. The park was very clean and as stated above, no areas of overgrowth along the layout.

Cons:

An average 9 hole course that's short on variety and lacking in difficulty.
- UNIQUENESS - Below average. With a mostly open layout, the thought process at the tees was limited. No tunnel shots or pocket shots to skip into. Also no par 5s, doglegs, or elevation outside of hole (18) which plays over a shallow 10 foot deep valley. There are a couple rec level par 4s and a small creek in play.
- CHARACTER - Doctor's Park is limited in the amount of course extras. No benches, limited tee shading, no multi basket placements or multi tees. The baskets, as mentioned in the Pros, are nice DISCatchers and there's a course map, rules of the game posting and practice basket by tee (1). Also shelters, restrooms and drinking fountains in the park, but they're not along the layout.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - Advanced players will not be tested by this layout and should probably play them all par 3s. Intermediate players should finish a couple down. Shop shaping is very limited as well.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - Like most city park courses that circle ball fields, the park just lacks the pop of your state park layouts. There are either buildings, paths, chain link fences or all three of these items in every backdrop view from tee.
- DISCONTINUITY - A good 500 foot walk between (6 and 7) and at least that back to the parking by tee (1) after finishing. However, other than these examples, all of the rest of the basket to tee walks are less than 100 feet.
- SPACING - The spacing on holes (3-6) was marginal. With the lack of trees, a good grip lock will easily find an adjacent fairway.
- TIME WAITING - A walking path encompasses the entire course and comes into play of an errant throw from several tees. I waited for a couple walkers to clear on (7) where the path runs down the entire left side of the fairway.
- WIND - A very open layout, so expect wind on most days. I was personally blessed with a somewhat light wind day.

Other Thoughts:

Doctor's Park is a quick stop of the interstate. Not a world changing view course, but fun enough to play if you're needing to stretch the legs after a long hour drive. For course baggers, there's a second course, Calvert City. It's literally a mile down the road. I didn't have time to check this one out but if you're looking for 18 unique holes, there's your second nine.

I have better places to be than the Doctor's Office 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 17, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Distance variation is pretty good on this course. There are some short holes, some medium length long drives with upshots, and some two shot holes for those who can't throw 300-350' consistently.
2) The ditch on a couple of the holes actually creates an interesting design feature. It forces you to really value your placement either just short of or just over. It is a little bit of luck needed to avoid it.
3) Beginner friendly course because there is nowhere to lose a disc. It is also open enough to not be super frustrating.
4) The course maintenance seems to be in pretty good shape. It looks like they take great care of this park.
5) I remember tee signs by the tees showing Hole # and distance but I forgot to write down or take photos of their detail. Sorry about this detail . . . I played 82 courses in 4 weeks and some details must have been forgotten.
6) Course map is available at the beginning of the course.

Cons:

1) The course is very flat. I do not think that there was more than a couple feet of up or down until the very end of the course. Hole #9 is the only one that really have any up and down, but it is a net zero elevation change on the hole. It goes down in a valley but then back up to the basket. Overall this does not really bring elevation into play unless you hit a tree and go to the low area you should be throwing over.
2) Not enough trees to be that enjoyable. I prefer more obstacles in my disc golf experience.
3) There is a pretty long walk between #6 and 7 but there was no way to avoid the walk.
4) There is the potential to throw into a road, onto a baseball field, and over another sidewalk. Those are three things I would prefer would be avoided when a course is put in. This park might not have been able to house disc golf without these minor issues, or perhaps they were not deemed important enough to not install the course. I said this in my other review of the other course in town, while I am a fan of disc golf over no disc golf, these are points that take away from the overall impression this course leaves in my mind. I hope the safety issues never become a problem. Common sense of the people using the course is instrumental to the sustainability of the course.
5) No benches or garbage cans on the course that I can remember seeing.

Other Thoughts:

This was quite obviously the better maintained course than the other course in town. It is more of a park-like course than I prefer but it had some nice features. It was a bit boring and repetitive on a handful of the holes. It is beginner friendly but it lacks a lot of challenge or fun factor that will bring back the experienced players. All in all it has its purpose for sure, it just isn't for me.

Ready to go 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 17, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very nice park with lots of parking. Hole #1 was very easy to find as were all of the other tees/holes. Brand new concrete pads and Innova Discatchers and a well manicured area make this more than just a walk in the park.
Hole #1 is mostly straight but watch out for the OB just to the left. #3 is the long hole and it ends with the basket tucked into a few oak trees. Hole #9 is the fun shot. You can either try to flick way out to the left and come back in shallow or go directly at it through a couple of pine trees with low hanging branches. Tough hole in anybody's book.

Cons:

Of course just 9 holes isn't all that good. I didn't like the back and forth in the field shots of #4 5 and 6. The walk from #6 to 7 pad was quite long but it is flat and there are trees and portapoties. When there is soccer and baseball going on this might put a damper on the disc golf. If there is wind on #9 your disc could go into the baseball field to the right.

Other Thoughts:

Really nice park that you can bring the kids to and make an afternoon or a day of it. You have another 9 holer just down the road less than two minutes away so you can make a trip to Calvert City and still play a full 18 holes. I wish my small town had just one of the two courses that Calvert City has.
