Worth it in Winter 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 1, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very well maintained. Easy short holes are great for beginners, or an ace race. The odds of losing one are very slim unless you throw it on top of the park shelter or something. Good signs, easily navigable, shouldn't ever be too wet.

Cons:

Natural tees. Holes don't prevent any challenge (for some this is a pro). Very over crowded. I played on a cold afternoon in the winter, so it was pretty open for me. But with a pool, playground, swingset, benches, park shelter, and a bunch of other activities crammed into such a small park, if you play in the summer when it's full you're going to need the patience of God and a lot of luck. I wouldn't even attempt it. Also, several baskets are very close to the road, so if you get grip locked, or you're just a power-thrower, you have to be very careful not to throw in the street.

Other Thoughts:

Certainly a nice course, for sure. I just wish it didn't have all that other stuff crammed in there with it.

Don't Stop During Busy Days 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 18, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great tee signs with layout/next tee arrows
Great, new DGA baskets
Uses the trees well to challenge your accuracy
Good line shaping/control needed
Good to work on your midrange/putter game
Good place to take family/newbies
Very quick round
Benches/tables/trashcans
Bathrooms when the building is open
Well mowed
Clean
Ample parking
Play ground area for the kids
Not crowded when I went (weekday in winter)

Favorite Hole(s): #9

Cons:

Natural tees
#1 plays along a parking lot, over two picnic tables
#2 plays right through a picnic pavillion
#3 plays along a building, over a table
#4 plays along #3, over a table
#5 plays over a walking path, ends near the busy street
#6 plays along the street, near picnic tables
#7 plays over path along street
#8 cuts the corner of the park, by some tables, near the playground
#9 plays along side the playground, near the memorial
Not a place to play when other people are using the park at all
No place to stretch out your driver
Almost no risk/reward
Interesting homeless visitors

Other Thoughts:

If you stop when the park is empty it is fun enough. The picnic tables and pavillion make for some interesting obstacles. Not worth a special trip but if you are in Shawnee for another reason, play a quick round. If somebody else is there using the park, be very careful. At least Shawnee has a course with actual signs, tee areas, and real baskets.

If the rating was based only on safety, this course would be my first Zero.

My "disc rating" is weighted heavily to fun factor which this course has a little of.

a dangerous game.... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 16, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

-
-New baskets
-Good signs
-All the concrete and park structures make for interesting obstacles and OB

Cons:

-
-no tees
-lots of picnic tables, pavillions, buildings, walkways and other stuff directly in the middle of the fairway make for a very unsafe and awkward round

-When I played here, there were a lot of pedestrians hanging out in the park and sitting at the permanent tables that were right in the fairway. Not good for a game of disc golf.

-Obviously designed by someone who has not played disc golf. Most of the holes are "par 4s" around 250'

Other Thoughts:

This course really should have just been just a couple of practice holes. The City would have done better to put these baskets in a larger, less inhabited park. Of course, it was still fun to play and I would probably do it again if I were passing through on my way to Seminole, which has a really good 18 hole course.
