Tall Grass Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 19, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

• Map/Scorecard available here or in Crosswinds Center Office
• Tall natural grass (different look than most courses)
• Two tees on each hole
• Hole 6 has a hanging basket

Cons:

• Hole 3 comes close to the volleyball court
• Discs may be hard to find in the tall grass (especially if you're playing alone)
• Hole 7 works around the pool/basketball court
• Hole 10 uses the same basket as Hole 1 which could cause issues if others are just starting their round

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed the tall grass and hanging basket. There are quite a few trees which also make you think. If you're running up/down I-35 and want a break, this course is handy and will provide you with some good fun.

Pros:

This course possesses a good number of holes that are nice and sheltered from the wind. Trees provide nice natural obstacles without being incredibly frustrating .The fairways are well mowed.

Cons:

The rough lives up to its name. Throwing a disc in the tall grass can be time-consuming to retrieve. A few holes fall victim to Kansas wind and are near impossible throws on most days. Although the designers did a fine job utilizing 9 baskets to make a 20 hole course (I believe those numbers are close), it leaves much to be desired when you play a very similar back 9 (even with an altered tee shot).

Other Thoughts:

It is on par with Camp Hawk and could easily pass Camp Hawk and be the best country course in the area with a few minor improvements.

Holy Cow!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 8, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very low traffic. This course is a little ways out of town, and being in a smaller town makes it easy to catch the course on your own. Course is a beautiful area with 0 traffic to speak of. It truly feels like a park dedicated to disc golf.
Tee boxes are marked by Small posts with numbers on them and the baskets are generally arranged so that with a map and a little bit of logic the flow can be followed. Maps are available either online, or you can pick one up at the center if there is someone there.

Cons:

This course is NOT made for the beginner player. Tight Fairways and Large amounts of Trees make most of the holes above average difficulty. The Summer months have also been VERY good to the grass in the area. Once off the mowed Fairways the grass is extremely tall and makes finding discs a serious team effort. Expect to add at least 30-45 minutes per 9 holes looking for discs in the grass if you are a beginner player.

Other Thoughts:

I have only been playing for a year and definitely consider myself a beginner. Though this course was fun to play, it was very shocking to my perceived level of playing. This course will challenge pro/amateur level players as well as beginners and will make you appreciate your home course. :)

Great Variety! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Maintenance: Fairways were well mowed, the grounds are in excellent shape
-Baskets: Although they are portable baskets, they are in good shape and catch surprisingly well
-Hole Variety: None of the holes are the same, and each provides a unique challenge
-Fun Factor!
-Flow: Other than a few holes, the course flows well and feel natural

Cons:

-Grass tees: After a rain, the tees become very slick and tough to get a footing on
-Poison Ivy: Many holes have copious quantities of poison ivy just off the fairways

Other Thoughts:

This course is fun because it is so different from your generic "park golf." Low ceilings, huge hyzers and anhyzers, and tight fairways really challenge your game, but not to the extent of not being fun. The first time you play, make sure to stop in the front desk and grab a map. While it really is 12 holes with 2 tees per hole, the tees are placed such that it truely feels like different holes. The bottom line is, if you're in the area, Hyzernaut is a must-play. You'll do yourself a disservice if you miss out on this teriffic course!

Hyzernaut Farm 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 26, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I may be a little Bias since I am the co-designer.

Hole and shot variance. Much thought was given to shot shape hyzer vs. anhyzer and length of hole..

For this are of Kansas there is a great mixture of trees and slight elevation.

2 Shot holes..the course has 2 holes that are 2 shot holes no doubt. Not drive and throw a putter but drive and throw driver or midrange. Neither of this give a huge advantage to throwing far...but give a huge advantage to throwing your shot correct.

Cons:

No tees or signs. There will be some kind of marker put in the ground very soon, for now have flags.

Tees can and will remain muddy after a rain or snow.

To help with flow we play 2 baskets twice. Once from each direction. Since this course isn't in a major metropolitan area, I don't see that being a problem.

One walk is much longer than we wanted but was unavoidable to get good flow.

Other Thoughts:

This is a church facility so NO ALCOHOL allowed on the property.

It is also on private property. Calling ahead and checking in could be a good idea. Park in the main parking lot and step in and say hi to Steve and Lyssa, grab a map and soda and then have some fun.

In the coming weeks I am going to design a putter/midrange course among the big holes. This course will most likely play basket from two directions with the focus being campers. If I am going to spend time designing, I will make sure it is fun for all levels. Who doesn't like playing an ace race type course that will test your shot making ability?

Pros:

This course has it all! Constructed very well, it has something for every player both casual and pro.Tight wooded fairways to monster 500+ holes, it even has a hanging basket hole.

Cons:

The tee pads are marked by a small flag, and there are not any tee signs. You should play with someone who has been there before, trust me its well worth it.

Other Thoughts:

Great course, cant wait to go back! Its a must course to play if you are in the area.
