Not bad for an apartment course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 20, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Nice, well-maintained property.
+ Surprisingly decent short course with a variety of shots.
+ Conveniently located just off of I-40.
+ Management is good about letting you play if you call ahead or stop by the office.
+ Hardly a destination course, unless you are a course bagger, but would be cool to have if you lived there.

Cons:

- Many holes are very short, and none are really memorable.
- Navigation is confusing and you will need a map to find the holes.
- Overhanging branches have obstructed many of the shots and could use some pruning.
- One of the baskets is tilting precariously.
- Tee pads are quite short.
- Some of the shots come uncomfortably close to roads, parking lots, or apartment buildings.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 28, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Kudos to the owners and property managers at Alamance Reserve Apartments for putting in a disc golf course for their residents (and people who call for permission to play). There isn't much to work with on the property, but they jammed a course in there and it sort of works.

+ While the course is very short and not especially challenging, it does offer a variety of shots off the tee. Hole 1 is a hyzer around some guardian trees and over a small stream. Hole 2 plays down the same stream. These two holes, plus the last 3, which are out in a field away from the apartments, are the only decent ones on the course.

+ Hole 7 actually has some distance at 300'+.

+ Hole 8 is a sharp, blind flick or anhyzer for a righty.

+ Hole 9 has decent distance also.

Cons:

Again, I applaud the attempt to install a course here, and if I lived in the apartments, I'd appreciate the opportunity to practice here (although I'd probably only do the last 3 holes on a loop), but there are quite a few cons.

- The "tee pads" are tiny and made of a few square tiles placed together. They're more in the way than they are helpful. I just played from the grass behind or beside the pads.

- There are no navigation signs and there are pretty long walks in between some of the middle holes.

- Not challenging at all. Very short, except for holes 7-9.

- Some of the holes are way too close to apartment windows (hole 6) and parked cars (hole 7). Holes 1 and 9 are way too close to roads. In other words, there is not much land here, they jammed a course in, which is great, better than nothing, but I'd say there's a good chance of property damage, especially for the rec players this course caters to. That's my main gripe for this course.

Other Thoughts:

Not one to go out of your way to travel to, but it's right off I-40 (you can actually see the interstate from the course and you can see the apartments from the interstate), so if you want to notch a course, call ahead and make a quick stop. Just be respectful of the property, make 100% sure you don't hit any windows, buildings, or cars, and pack out your trash.

A quick play, right off the highway! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 16, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice course for those living in the Alamance Reserve Apartment complex. It would be nice to have this to practice on right outside your door.
Very easy access off I-40/85 in Burlington. Two quick turns off the University Dr exit and you are there.
Baskets are in good shape. Nice yellow bands that can be easily seen. Course flows around the complex, using the most of the open space.
A few good holes - 1,2, 7, 8 and 9. None are too long but make you shape shots.

Cons:

Doesn't finish near #1. #8 and #9 (which could be played in either order) finish right at the entrance. It would be nice if they could use the creek area to get back to #1.
#1 is past the clubhouse/pool and No Trespassing signs. It is down the hill to your left, I parked in the closest lot.
Tee pads were only 6 landscaping stones, but you don't need much of a run-up on these holes.

Other Thoughts:

The course is actually labeled on the tee posts as Hunter's Ridge DGC. It is in the Alamance Reserve apartment complex, across the highway from the Alamance Crossing shopping center. This is an easy, quick round right off the highway if you are passing through the Triad and Triangle.
Gotta shout out to #6, had my first Ace on this 125 ft hole. Will always remember this course and that hole.

Well kept, very easy 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is very well kept and looks great. Given that it's in an apartment complex, it's quite fun. Only took about 25 minutes to play. There are a couple of nice hyzer and anhyzer lines. Tons of ace opportunities.

Cons:

Most of the holes are very short and easy.

Other Thoughts:

If you're crunched for time, this is a lot of fun. I was surprised by how nice and enjoyable this was.

these alamance crossing folks know how to live 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 18, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Surprisingly fun course plays through an apartment complex. It is a quick round of mostly short holes that does a good job of avoiding dangerous situations. The first three holes are by far the best. There is a small creek, crossed by several wooden footbridges, that runs through the back part of the property and the first few holes all use that feature well. The tee shots force you to navigate banks of trees while attempting land near the basket and stay dry. I was immediately impressed with how fun these holes looked. And they delivered.

Cons:

After that, there are some long walks between sets of holes and the remaining six aren't nearly as interesting. 4-6 are short and they run closer to the buildings than the other holes. Much more pitch and putt. 5 is the only hole that risks hitting a building, though it would require a griplock to do so. 4 throws over a dog park and it's hard to find the tee. (It's not right next to the sign)
Additionally, make sure you have access to the map, as it can be hard to find the tees and they are often far from the previous basket. 9 leaves you with a very far walk back to 1.

Other Thoughts:

The last three holes are longer and play on a big field at the front of the complex, as well as a patch of narrow grass that allows 8 to be a dogleg. It all makes for a really nice course for residents. A few short technical holes and a few chances to air it out. The field has more than enough space to practice drives, even if you don't to play to the baskets. 7 is downhill and over 300 feet but if you play back up the hill, there is over 500 feet to the woods line.
It's also very close to I-40, (half a mile) so it is very easy to stop by.

Quick and easy fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 9, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-extremely well maintained
-at least 3 beautiful holes
-a fast little course
-very nice tee signs
-one block off the highway!

Cons:

-too easy, not a tough hole on the course, and most are beyond simple
-ends on the opposite side of the complex from the beginning
-hard to navigate the first time
-built as an afterthought and feels it

Other Thoughts:

I spoke to the management before playing and they confirmed there is no plan to add any more holes. It looks like there is a little more land for a few more holes, but I guess its not to be. In any event, this is a very short, simple course that won't trouble anyone who's played very long. Everything is listed par 3 but holes 1-6 could all legitimately be par 2's. If you are looking for a quick round and have a half hour this will certainly do. To be sure several holes are gorgeous, especially 1, 2, and 8. However, the course winds through and around the apartment complex, and there are certainly some spots that could be dangerous to passersby. Hole 4 is a hard hyzer that throws directly over the fenced-in dog-walking area. It wouldn't normally be a big deal except they sat a picnic table for folks to sit on while their dogs did whatever right in the line of fire making it unsafe. Hole 5 is unacceptable- its a blind spot near the sidewalk where you can't see the basket and the possibility of hitting someone is very high. Hole 6 isn't much better. Holes 7 and 9 have the potential to hit cars entering or leaving the complex. But all in all its not too shabby if you don't have much time to play.

A Cool Little Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 5, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

A great, fun little nine holer winding through and around an upper crust apartment community of friendly and helpful folks.

Cons:

It appears that maybe the funding ran out, as number nine finishes up on the far side of the complex from number 1. There appears to be land enough to loop a second nine back toward the start of the course.

Other Thoughts:

This nine makes a great companion course to Beth Schmidt Park's nine hole layout less than a mile north on the same side of University Drive.
