Pros:

Swiss Valley DGC is a pretty well done niner just outside of Dubuque IA, only minutes off the highway. The course is in a beautiful little park that seems like it's out in the middle of nowhere. There's gorgeous views from the first couple of holes, Huge trees and a clear creek that runs across the park road. Just a great place for a course.

The baskets are Mach III's. These are still in great shape and catch decently. These have the number plate on the top and they actually face the tee which is nice. One basket and placement per hole.

Natural tees with a wood paver marking the front end of the tee. The hole #, par and distance is engraved into these and basically doubles as the tee sign.

The course is totally flat but they incorporate the trees when possible to form some shot shaping. The first couple holes are right to left shot shapes with the pin blind from the tee. Hole 6 is a tight wooded fairway that you'll be happy with a 4 on. Holes 1-3 and 9 play on the south side of the park/creek. The rest play on the north side of the creek and are longer and more open besides hole 6. Solid mix of hole types here for such a small park.

The design is well thought out to get nine holes in here without feeling cramped. The flow is pretty simple besides the creek crossing, which is well marked.

Free to play, permanent and very well maintained.

Cons:

The layout is kind of strange with the longer walk to get to hole 4 and back to hole 9. There's a nice bridge that crosses the creek to access these holes. The road is usually underwater though. This isn't really a con since there's a bridge, I've just never seen a creek/stream that runs OVER the park road. Taking the bridge is only a bit of extra walking anywhere. Just odd for my WI mind I guess.

Hole 6 is a head scratcher. I'm not sure what the intended line is supposed to be. I certainly didn't see it. It's a tight hallway hole with a kink in it. The rough is pretty thick off to each side. Weird hole.

The park road comes into play on the first few holes. Not the busiest park so if you're careful it's fine.

Some of the paver boards are starting to get unreadable due to the boards rotting out. Normally not a big deal, but these double as the tee signs.

Other Thoughts:

Really solid little course. I enjoyed this one. More so the atmosphere and views than the golf itself. But the golf wasn't bad either. If you're near here I'd give it a go. Totally worth it and it doesn't take too long to play a round. Good course.

Pros:

Nice open course and easy to navigate. Baskets and signs are in great condition.

Cons:

If you go during the weekend during camping season you may not be able to play holes 2-4 if campers are present. Cars were parked on the fairway on holes 2-3 and hole 4 had a large gathering near it with people using basket for their rec use.

Other Thoughts:

Nice course to play with kids, with #6 being the most difficult hole. You may want to skip that hole as it's a tight fairway and if you dont land in fairway, you'll be searching for disks in thorny bushes. I would come bck here again, only in off camiping season or during the weekday when less campers are present.

Sweet niner! 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Overall Score (3.4)

Tee pads (1/5): No tee pads here. Just a 2"x4" dug into the ground with a carving of the hole number and distance - actually pretty cool. I'm not disappointed at all, but hey, there's no pads here. There is a tee post, and the ground is level in tee areas.

Baskets (5/5): Brand new DGA Mach 3's. They're numbered, and they catch exceptionally well. What more can you ask for?

Layout/Design (3/5): This course uses a pretty basic - nothing special - design. Holes #1-#4 all play along the creek. Holes #5-#9 are longer and open with some scattered trees. This course does an excellent job of bringing you back to the parking lot at the end of the round. After you play #4, cross the bridge/creek to get to 5-8. After you play #8, you need to RE-cross the bridge back to the original side. You will find the last hole (#9) on the opposite side of the road as all of the other holes. #5 and #9 can be difficult to find for a first timer. Lastly, this course plays as an easy par for beginners, and all lines are fair with the exception of #6 - there's no legitimate, safe landing spot with the way the "fairway" is currently mowed..

Scenery/Surroundings (4/5): Almost perfect in this category. This park is a beautiful gem nestled in the sloping countryside of northeastern Iowa. The drive to this park offers beautiful views looking out over the hills and valleys. Ironically, the course is completely flat. There seems to be a lot of traffic and tons of other activities at this park, although no one else ever crossed into the disc golf course, which is a huge plus. I saw families with their children playing in the creek, kids playing at the park, and a family taking baby photos on the bridge. Hopefully this gives you an idea of the kind of park it is. Nothing but good folk here. The park has benches, trash cans, and restrooms. The only negative I can think of is the fact that the rough was very thick on a couple holes - #5 and #6 were the worst.

Likeliness to Return (4/5): Considering that this course has a couple ace runs, the chance to air out some drives, and its in such a nice park - I could definitely see myself returning if I lived closer. I'd probably like to take my little brother and sisters here for some practice (skip hole #6). They'd enjoy the park afterward.

Check it out if you're looking for a solid round of 9.
