I rate this a 2.5, like many Iowa park courses.
This is now an 18-hole course, all cement tee, with updated signage. The original nine is now the back nine and is the longer, more challenging segment.
The front nine is shorter and all par 3s. Many will appreciate these beginning birdie or ace chances with up or down elevation changes, and three cross-bridges in play.
An assortment of mature trees stand tall, wide, and ready to reject off-target drives throughout the course.
Several park roads become harder to avoid on windy days.

The adjacent, assorted picnic areas within the course had garbage cans, but more receptacles are needed at teepads. Maybe more appear during warmer weather.
There is a permanent restroom near the number 6 tee. It likely gets locked during colder seasons.

This is an enjoyable city-park course in a friendly town.
Hopefully, some additional basket locations and tree-plantings are planned for the course.

Clean park every thing looked great. a lot of fun shots. offers something for everyone from beginners to more advanced players. very good layout and plenty of other amenities that would make for a great family or group outing.

I did not find to much wrong. There was some graffiti on the tee pad on #6 and only one bench but it is only a 9 basket course.

I will play this course again. I have family in Washington and will use this as an excuse to make it out to eastern Iowa more often.

-The hills made for a lot of fun shots and more challenging than if this course was flat
-Concrete pads
-A fairly long course for a city park 9. Length varies from 200ish to nearly 600.
-Lots of other park amenities; pool, playgrounds, bathrooms, parking, etc. Despite the multi-use designation, the course is separated from the rest of it
-Baskets are in good shape and this course gets a lot of love from the city. Frequent mowing and anything damaged looks to be repaired quickly.
-Not far off I-80 or from the Iowa City area.
-A creek for added challenge without the threat of actually losing a disc.
-Course wasn't busy at all with other disc golfers.

-Navigation/flow wasn't the best for a first time player of this course. Some of the course was kind of close to other park users but it wasn't that bad.
-When I played (2 years ago) there weren't signs on most if not all the holes.
-Walkers could get in the way here and there but they didn't bother me.
-This course is kind of open but the elevation keeps it fresh so this isn't a huge con. It is a city park, not a forest.

I don't have a ton to say about this course but it had a great feel and a ton of fun factor. I was in town for a wedding and had to sneak away when I saw this course from the road. It was a pleasant surprise and I will be sure to return if I am ever in the area again.

This is a really worthwhile 9-hole course. It plays through open park setting, with manicured fairways and scattered trees providing a few obstacles. The elevation change is what is best about this one. There are two par 4 holes playing down a big sledding hill and back up the other side, one of which (hole 8) would be a signature hole on most good 18-holers. It's a blast to play. Also hole 3 stands out as a good challenge and score separator, it is open off the tee but you have to hit a narrow gap about 250 ft out and then dogleg sharply uphill to the left. Even the biggest arms need a great drive to deuce this one, and I can't claim to have done it but I've seen it done. The park also has great playgrounds for the kids, and a nice pool.

There has been construction projects recently, and last time I was there this impacted holes 5-7. Lot of garbage in the woodline bordering the commercial area just outside holes 3-6. Other park users often wandering through the disc golf area.

Very busy multi-use park. Several playgrounds, pool complex, basketball courts, bathrooms, dog park, horseshoe court, sand court volleyball court, multiple pavilions around park, lots to do for the entire family, huge + in my book.

Nice simple tee signs with distance and layout picture, out of bounds noted when it comes into play. Good sized tee pads, they were level, don't recall any being broken, and they pointed towards the pin. Baskets were in nice shape, they look almost new. A couple of trashcans, located on 1 and 5 if I recall correctly.

Elevation - incredibly surprised by the elevation that this course was built around. Even on hole 1, which is basically flat, there was a little elevation near the pin that you had to be aware of on your putt or upshot. Huge valley shots, and several others shooting up or down hill.

Obstacles in the form of fully developed trees. To the simple on-looker, course seems pretty wide open, until you line up your shot off the tee, then you realize the thought put into course design. You can't just pick up your disc and throw, you really need to be fairly selective on your shots.

High level fun factor for me, especially for a 9 hole course.

No main kiosk for the course (at least none that I found). Not being from area, I had difficulty finding hole 1, I could have benefited from a sign in the park or a kiosk. If this changes or I missed it, let me know and I will update accordingly. Also, after the first time playing course, this isn't an issue.

I fear this course being too busy to play safely during nice weather and or weekends. Hole 1 has OB on both sides on the fairly narrow fairway, with parking available on one or both sides. Even on the days I went, the fairway for 8 and 9 are used by others: people running up the hill, kids playing, walking dogs, this doesn't bother me as it is a multi-use park, just be aware and patient. The road across 8 and 9 fairway has potential to be busy and possibility of vehicles parked there during a party or reunion.

Though there was minimal trash on course, I noticed a lot of trash and dumps on the edges of course (south side behind Pizza Hut - Autozone, not saying its from them though). Maybe not noticed once some green comes back, but definitely took away from the parks beauty.

Even though hole lines were different, your throwing down a hill, then up a hill, down, up, across, and across again. A little redundant, but again, the lines are different enough that you know your throwing a different hole, just thought I would note it.

If you want to play two rounds, you have a fairly long walk back to 1.

A couple holes that caught my attention: Hole 4 was a fun chance for an ace or deuce (not a gimme by any means), down hill shot towards pin, nice easy throw off the tee and let it fade back under the basket. Lots of fun. Hole 8, huge valley shot over the road and back up to corner of park. Don't clip any trees or it'll make you come up short. Also, good spot to throw a roller.

The dogleg holes 3 and 5 favors a RHBH thrower. No other holes to offset that.

I thought is was funny that on hole 8, somebody scratched out the par # (5) and wrote 10, made me chuckle.

I noticed a few other groups (single discers) playing, all but one group skipped 8 and 9 completely.

Not that I would want this layout to change, but its worth noting that if they took some of the distance out of the longer holes, you could easily have a 12 hole course, if not a couple more. With that said, this course wouldn't be what it is today, so props to designers for building a great course, and not trying to squeeze a few extra holes out of it.

Overall, I feel this is one of the best 9 hole courses around, and may be the best 9er I've played to date. That much elevation made the play really fun, thus the high fun factor. I drove 40 miles to play this course, and I enjoyed it enough, that when the kids asked to go to a park and play, I packed them up and headed back over.

This has always been one of my favorite 9 hole courses. Which is now, the back 9 for the now 18 hole course at Sunset Park.
-Centrally located in town
-Beautiful Scenic Park
-Good use of terrain, including the rolling hills, and playing a round the parks pedestrian bridges. Very Scenic!!
-Great for beginners, Casual players, seasoned players and those looking for a quick round. It's fun for everyone.
-A couple legit par 4's and a par 5
-The Front 9 tends to play away from the Play grounds and shelter houses* (See cons)
-The Back 9, has very minimal interactions with other park goers.
-Good distance shots on the back 9. One of which is a 600ft valley shot. 2 holes are over 400ft. 3 holes are around 350ft. leaving only two less than 300ft. One that is 298ft and the other at 258ft.
-The Front 9 is shorter, none are longer than 300ft. The plus is, that it keeps your shots manageable, in a high pedestrian traffic area
-Some holes require a strategic approach, as you have a couple of doglegs, as well as multiple uphill shots. One, looks like it could be a mando under the bridge, but I have not confirmed this
-Good pin placement. (except 7, see con) There is a good balance between offset pins, and straight ahead shots. Offering a good challenge. There are also a couple of beautiful "Empty your bag" downhill shots.
-Big Fun Factor, and this course will give you a work out. Starting in to the back 9 it becomes and Uphill/Downhill walk. You will definitely burn some calories.
-As it gets dark, the park has lights throughout the course. You'll want to play more conservatively, but it's enough to allow one to play after dark! (I'm leaving this from my previous review. However, I forgot to go back after dark to see how the lighting is.

FWIW: There are other activities at this park as well. Playground, Pool, basketball court, skate board facility, and Dog Park. This is a big park, with plenty to do.

-*This is a popular and busy park! The Back 9 is mostly separated, but the front 9 is still playing around a lot of people. There are some blind spots. I had a kid, that always seem to be crossing whatever fairway I was on.
-The weekends this park can be packed. It just bears repeating!
-My Big complaint is #7. You have a 200ft run, and a Merry Go Round, 50ft behind the basket. Everything else, tends to play away from the traffic, but here... This needs to be rectified before a kid takes a disc to the head and then falls off the merry go round!
-Watch for Kids and other park goers. 11-16, have the least foot traffic, but it's not exempt. Kids were still running across the middle of the fairways on 17& 18. Tons of people were Barbequing, of course it was a beautiful day in the park!
-Roads weave throughout the park. Just look before you throw.

I may have listed a few cons, Some were removed in my update. A good time will be had here!! It is well worth your time.

This course is now a full on 18 hole course! It's always been a favorite place of mine to play! Now, it's even better! The front 9, and the back 9 are drastically different. The front 9, will have you throwing on shorter fairways. You have some nice elevated tee pads that throw into a really well kept ravine or sunken area with raised hills. Even throwing under some pedestrian bridges. The course looks fantastic! It was a wonderful experience! Even amidst a crowded park! The front 9 does feel like it was "Squeezed in" to the available areas, but I think the shorter holes keep one playing more conservative, since it plays closer to the heavy traffic areas.

The Back 9, was kept pretty much to the original layout. Looks like some hole distances were tweaked, but nothing drastic. 17 is now listed as a 600ft hole. The rolling hills, A killer Dogleg (#12), Great downhill shots, plus some uphill runs that really require a strategic approach. You'll even find 2 par 4s and one par 5. Hole #12 is definitely a legit par 4, requiring a precise second shot placement. As well as 17 (par 5) and 18 (par 4).

The front 9 is more fun than challenging, while the back is longer. The majority of the course is in an open field, but the pin placement will still have you considering your approaches. No special footwear required to play here. You may want to consider having a drink with you. It is an open field, and that can make a difference on a hot day. Of course, there are gas stations and restaurants nearby, so that is a definite plus.

If you are in the vicinity or traveling along 218, it's worth checking out. It's only 10-15 minutes off the interstate, it's a convenient stop that could make a nice break on a long trip. Plus it's located in a park, that would be an ideal rest stop for a traveling family (See amenities at the end of the pros).

The only real gripe I have, is the basket on #7 needs to be moved away from the merry go round!! Please take care when throwing on 7!

Good signage (at least at the tees; there isn't much to indicate the first tee when you drive in); concrete pads; well maintained; nice mix of long and short; some decent elevation change; baskets are in good shape

Mostly wide-open, which means not a lot of variety of shots

I was pretty impressed to find such a nice course in this small Iowa town. It's not particularly challenging, but it's not easy, either. There's some marshy, grassy land on 6, with a small creek running to the left of it--I lost a disc in the tall stuff; holes eight and nine are pretty long

I am so glad this course is in my town. It has been a great course to learn and practice on. The park setting is good, with the perfect amount of trees. Only one hole with the danger of water, and it is a creek that you can see the bottom of.

Since this is a park setting, there is seldomly people playing in the middle of hole 9.

If you are up for a 40 minute challenge, try this course. It is a fairly long course with only 2 or 3 opportunities for birdies. The real challenge is hole 8. Kudos if you can par it.
