Cute 9'er by Silver lake

Reviewed: Played on:May 28, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Silver Lake DGC is a cute 9 hole park like course just off the lake in Northwest Iowa. Park was impeccably maintained with beautiful manicured grass and no debris on the ground.

The course is located in a municipal park with a swimming pool, tennis and volleyball courts. Course is in it's own area of the park, the only time there might be an issue is the tee shot on hole 2 if the volleyball court is occupied.

Teepads were concrete, baskets were fine DGA something.

Great beginner course as there is no chance of losing a disc except for near hole 6 green where there is some rough and a little creek, although that's a stretch. Flat course and an easy walk.

Also fun for this guy, nothing wrong with a park style 9'er with some minimal shot shaping to add to a roadtripping day.

Cons:

The only thing I would say is navigating from hole 5 to 6 is not obvious as there is not a course map posted. Have to cross the park entrance road and head towards the main road to find hole 6's tee on the other side of the building. Holes 6-9 play on this side of the road.

Other Thoughts:

I saw a family of 9 or so walk over from the campground whooping it up as I passed by them on 5 as they were playing hole 1 (the holes run parallel).

The nice looking lake and campground are right there. I didn't check out the campground as it was packed being Memorial Day weekend, but just might if I come back to the area to play Okoboji again (and Lutheran Lakeside which I didn't get to play as there was a tourney going on but looked neat from the parking lot).

Decent Town Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 23, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Good beginner course
-Baskets are in good condition, caught well
-Tee pads are nice
-Tee signs were helpful
-The park was in good shape and it seems to be maintained regularly
-Chances for aces and birdies
-Not going to lose a disc here
-The course was not busy while I was there
-Other things to do in the park
-Though not much area given to make a course, the designers did a nice job with the space given

Cons:

-The holes are all fairly short, can't really open up your arm except for maybe two holes
-Navigation is a bit tricky in some spots. Have to hike a bit between holes 5 and 6, and 8 and 9.
-Not much shot variation. Nothing too interesting here
-No signature shots here. Each hole was pretty "meh" to me

Other Thoughts:

This would be a very solid course to introduce the game to someone, as the holes are generally pretty short with a few trees scattered throughout. With that said, there is nothing that stands out about this course and it is very comparable to any other small town course. It really isn't worth traveling that far to play. If you are in town or nearby, you may as well stop by to touch up your game a bit and maybe sink an ace or two.

Decent IA Lakes Rec Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 8, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Nice baskets
+Concrete Tees
+Won't lose a disc here.
+A good amount of trees for a beginner course in a small town. There are enough to provide a challenge but not overwhelming.
+Other things to do at this park if you want to stop here with the family and play a quick round. Playgrounds, camping, tennis, picnic tables, views of the lake.
+Decent signage.
+Decent flow (7 and 8 are across the bridge past 9)
+Ace runs
+This course is probably never busy.

Cons:

-This course is pretty short and won't provide much of a challenge to serious players.
-Not a lot of distance variation, it is short and shorter.
-Not much for elevation here. Maybe a few +/- 5 feet holes.

Other Thoughts:

-This is one of those courses that is well designed as a short, beginner course in a park. It has an average fun factor. It is a serviceable park for this town but it simply can't get a high ranking.
-This course isn't worth traveling any real distance to play. The best course in the lakes area is Okoboji Gold. If you are in town, you might as well play. It will be a quick round.
