Pros:
Wooded alternative to the primary open course
Cons:
Summer growth closes some throwing lanes, resulting in more poke-n-pray options.
Other Thoughts:
This developing course is being built in the small patch of woods which borders the western boundary of the ball golf course, with a small creek forming the west border. Distances range from 133' (hole-6 short, right-turner, drop-off at midpoint) to 285' (hole-4, straight/left options, with a bit of up-n-over terrain), with an overall average of ~200'. Hole-3 is probably the most interesting hole, as it offers right-, left-, and no-turn options - pick your poison.
Natural tees. Rusting baskets. Mid-sized trees abound. Throwing lanes / windows can prove challenging, more so in the summer with the foliage. Some undergrowth has been eliminated, while other is making a determined comeback (2 and 9 in particular).Lots of small downed branches and generic clutter.
Navigation: When moving from the Open course basket-3 to tee-4, you may see a basket on your left - this is basket-1 for the Woods. Past Open tee-4, you should see a white post and basket to your left, near a shed - these are Woods tee-1 / basket-9 - so it makes sense to start the Woods course between holes 3&4 of the Open course. Play back to basket-1, then 2-4 play roughly in the same direction (as of 6/30/15, Open basket-4 also serves as Woods basket-4). About halfway down Woods fairway-4, you might see a white post to your right - this is Woods tee-8. From basket-4, continue around a run-off to tee-5 (basket-7 to your left.) Holes 5-7 form a triangle, so head right from basket-5 to find tee-6, near Open tee-8. From basket-6 head left to find tee-7, then return to tee-8, which was at the midpoint of fairway-4. Tee-9 is same direction from basket-8. TLDR? Holes 1,7,8,9 play southward, holes 2-3-4-5 play northward, hole-6 plays westward.
By itself, probably not worth a visit, but if playing the Open course and wanting a bit of wooded challenge, tack it on!
