Rough and (kinda) Ready 2+ years

Pros:

Wooded alternative to the primary open course

Cons:

Summer growth closes some throwing lanes, resulting in more poke-n-pray options.

Other Thoughts:

This developing course is being built in the small patch of woods which borders the western boundary of the ball golf course, with a small creek forming the west border. Distances range from 133' (hole-6 short, right-turner, drop-off at midpoint) to 285' (hole-4, straight/left options, with a bit of up-n-over terrain), with an overall average of ~200'. Hole-3 is probably the most interesting hole, as it offers right-, left-, and no-turn options - pick your poison.

Natural tees. Rusting baskets. Mid-sized trees abound. Throwing lanes / windows can prove challenging, more so in the summer with the foliage. Some undergrowth has been eliminated, while other is making a determined comeback (2 and 9 in particular).Lots of small downed branches and generic clutter.

Navigation: When moving from the Open course basket-3 to tee-4, you may see a basket on your left - this is basket-1 for the Woods. Past Open tee-4, you should see a white post and basket to your left, near a shed - these are Woods tee-1 / basket-9 - so it makes sense to start the Woods course between holes 3&4 of the Open course. Play back to basket-1, then 2-4 play roughly in the same direction (as of 6/30/15, Open basket-4 also serves as Woods basket-4). About halfway down Woods fairway-4, you might see a white post to your right - this is Woods tee-8. From basket-4, continue around a run-off to tee-5 (basket-7 to your left.) Holes 5-7 form a triangle, so head right from basket-5 to find tee-6, near Open tee-8. From basket-6 head left to find tee-7, then return to tee-8, which was at the midpoint of fairway-4. Tee-9 is same direction from basket-8. TLDR? Holes 1,7,8,9 play southward, holes 2-3-4-5 play northward, hole-6 plays westward.

By itself, probably not worth a visit, but if playing the Open course and wanting a bit of wooded challenge, tack it on!

The Horse Named, Don? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 11, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

9 holes with single natural tee marked with PVC pipe and flags and single basket. Fairly short and technical holes with all holes having moderate to heavily wooded fairways, gently sloping elevation, and a creek comes into play on a few holes. Shade from the trees! Navigation was fairly easy to figure out. As with the big course there are bathrooms, BYOB, and pro shop.

Cons:

The baskets are older style and show some age. Holes tend to play a little close together and you have to cross over fairways in places to next tee. Holes start and end a little far away from the parking lot. Not cart assessable when I played, heard they might make it assessable though.

Other Thoughts:

The Wooded Course starts behind the tee for hole 2 of the ball course. The tee for Hole 1 is by the shed and the basket plays toward hole 3 of the golf course. The tee for hole 2 is right by the creek and plays back toward the shed. Hole 3 tee is on the other side of the shed down by the creek. The holes snake down and back through the woods to hole 8 of the ball course.

I might have been the first person to play these new wooded holes. There was some massive poison ivy/brush eradication done to make these playable. Tees were marked with PVC pipe and flags. These holes remind me somewhat of Schumaker Pond, they are fairly short, wooded, and more beginner friendly than the original course on the ball course. Holes 1, 4, and 7 were my favorites. Holes probably average around 200'. The Woods Course adds another playing dimension to help counter to the long and openness of the Original Course, it's not the main attraction here, but it's a decent little addition.
