Long/short tees are pretty similar and don't really add enough challenge to balance out a group split between skill levels

We played RR on a day with sustained 15mph winds and gusts over 25. Probably NOT the best intro to any course, but especially one with water omnipresent and lots of open holes. Regardless, I held my own for 18 holes. Then we came back out of the woods and the wheels fell off! In pictures and on paper the last 6 holes looked like a cakewalk back to the parking lot. In reality, the OB along the road, over the ditch and in the bail out area away from the reservoir made them an absolute murderer's row for my group made up of intermediate/rec players. The 3 of us only pulled out 4 pars combined, with four scores of 6 or worse and six 5's tossed on the card.

Regardless, I can't wait to make the hour drive up here again to test myself and see if I can't improve. The course probably isn't one I'd drive that far regularly to play, but I'll be back a couple times a year at least when I need to get kicked in the face.

Great layout, you see everything, woods water, long wide open. You name it this course has it. Friends and I live over an hour away, we make the drive a handful of times per year.

Lots of different shots needed to master with a couple involving water and one involving a basket on a hill which can be very hard to get it to stay on.

Short and long tee pads are basically ALL within 35 feet of each other.. so the difference in a short and long round is almost no difference.

I finally got up to north central Ohio to play Reservoir Ridge and an event hosted by my friends Bob & Marnie Cundiff. Although it's a bit of a blur to review a course after a tournament day, I was in the only division to play all 24 holes from the longs and then the short tees, so I got a pretty good feeling for the layout. And it's a pretty darn good one.

Large enough, level, trapezoidal, concrete tees, fantastic, accurate, informative signage, and really solid Mach X baskets complement a design that focuses on variety and replay-ability. There's a little sampler of everything here to challenge players from Novice through Advanced: short, rolling elevations and slopes (most of which seemed to be gently downhill: Yay!), manageable water carries, tight wooded lines, bomber holes that need a little thought in order to avoid the drop off slopes, the rough, and the tall grassy areas that are marked as Out of Bounds because they're nature conservation areas. So skipping or rolling into the tall stuff won't lose you a disc, but will lose you a stroke if you're playing per the signs or in a tourney.

Now, you do have a few chances to put one in the water, even on ace runs like 7 (crosses 100 feet or so of water to hit a narrow tree gap) & 14 (downhill toward the reservoir), or on trickier touch shots like 10 (blind fade to the left, with the spillway drop off about 30' past) & 21 (plays beside the upper reservoir, in the wind, and to the elevated pedestal basket). Even your second (or third) shot on the longest hole (3) has a good chance of flying or rolling into the water about 100' short of the basket, on the right, with the steep hillside all down the left side of the fairway.

There's plenty of available parking (4 lots?), the acreage is pretty much just reserved for the disc golf course, and the maintenance appears to be top-notch. There are enough benches scattered throughout the course to give yourself a breather. And I think I mentioned variety, but didn't explain: there are about nine holes where you'll get to air it out quite a bit, nine that are truly tight, wooded and technical (but shorter), and about six more that are a little bit of controlled shot, but longer, and open to at least one side. In all, this is a very well thought out course!

For the most part, the long tees add only distance (though a couple (11 & 24) do change the line you need to throw...they probably could've looked for more chances in this department). The technical holes slightly favor left to right lines, so if you're a rhbh player like me, bring your gentle, control, anny disc. It's odd that there weren't any trash cans on the course (there's one between hole 24 & 1, and a dumpster (not really too) near the shelter at hole 14). The flow of the course is good once you've 'got it', but you'll want a copy of the map with you if you're playing alone for the first time. Better to play with a veteran of the course, who can warn you of hazards you can't see off the tee. Finally, be careful on the metal grate bridge after 14 taking you into the woods. Most parks would require that big a drop to have handrails.

Overall, Reservoir Ridge is a fun course with enough variety to entertain players from Novice on up. Open players might really shoot well, even if there are two legitimate par fours, but they still will be able to refine their skills here.
This is my 287th review, and I've played with folks from 7 to 87, so I try to write them so folks can decide whether a course is their cup of tea.

Reservoir Ridge DGC provides a great introductory tour of disc golf and its assortment of shots, all in an attractive lakeside setting. There's a great variety here (holes range from 186'-643' from the shorts), and plenty of opportunity for a new player to learn many of the standard disc golf hole archetypes. Hole 3 introduces long, windy, roller-ready championship golf. Hole 7 is a (relatively speaking) low-risk throw over water. Hole 12 demonstrates a wooded turnover. Hole 13 calls for a tight flex shot. Hole 21 features an elevated basket. The only thing keeping Reservoir Ridge from hitting disc golf design bingo is a top of the world shot.

All of this takes place in a beautiful setting located, believe it or not, on a ridge between two reservoirs. There's plenty to look at as you cover a surprising amount of ground over the course of your round. The maintenance is immaculate, making the attractive setting even more enjoyable.

The overall design incorporates the water well, punishing truly bad shots without penalizing something that might be a little off line.

Two sets of concrete tees are a big plus, especially since they play to superb Mach X baskets. The tee signs are detailed and easy to read. There's also the occasional bench when you need a breather.

The biggest knock on this course is the lack of differentiation between the short and the long tees. Holes with longs almost always provide the exact same look at the pin, but with another 40+ feet of distance. If the course had been designed for 18 holes there could've been two really strong, distinct layouts here: the current rec/int designed reds and a championship length colossus from the blues. Instead, the longs feel like a waste of concrete.

The wooded section (Holes 12-18) features holes that are all pretty similar in length and design, and they kind of melt together.

Although it may seem like a sleepy park at first glance, I've encountered fishermen, ball golfers, and (bizarrely) horseback riders on the course in just two visits. Hitting a chestnut thoroughbred with a Destroyer would suck, so make sure to watch for other park users. Chances are you're not as alone as you might think.

Far be it for me to complain about more golf, but the 24 hole layout feels like a missed opportunity. Reservoir Ridge is an excellent course as is, but a 5200' red layout and a 7800' blue layout could've elevated it to something special. Still, it's worth a visit if you're in the Mansfield area or passing through Mid-Ohio on I-71.

Reservoir Ridge DGC is a very fun course that sits on a beautiful piece of land!

-Disc golfers have the entire property to themselves. No walking trails, activities, playgrounds, etc. Rare to find public courses like that.

-The entire property is just beautiful. Rolling hills and woodlands between two reservoirs.

-24 holes that all stand apart from each other.

-Concrete tees, very nice signs, great baskets. There's also benches everywhere if you need a rest during your round.

-One of the best maintained courses I've come across so far. All the fairways are mowed, the wooded fairways are clear of branches and underbrush. Also, the course is basically trash free.

-Water can be a factor, but not so much so that your bag is cleaned out at the end of the round.

-Good mix of shots. Uphill, downhill, wooded, open, etc.

-Good size parking lot with a restroom.

-There were multiple tees on some holes, but the short tees are pretty pointless. On every hole that has two sets of tees, the shorts are literally right in front of the longs. Kind of a waste of effort.

-Most holes won't provide a ton of challenge for advanced players. Several holes under 300' from the longs.

-Some tees and baskets were kind of close to each other.

- The bridge that takes you in and out of the woods is really sketchy. Doesn't seem like it's going to last.

Reservoir Ridge is just a fun disc golf course. Even if it wasn't the most challenging play, it provided an abundance of fun holes and good views. I'm in Mansfield twice a week, so this is my go to course when I'm in the area. Give it a try, I promise you won't regret it!

Mach X baskets grab puts very well.
A good balance of shots.
A great blend of woods and open.
Some water and O.B. just enough to cause some trouble, but not so much that you lose a lot of discs.

Set beautifully on the edge of two reservoirs where the waterline is regulated so it almost never gets swampy.

Not a lot of negatives. More benches would be good on this 24 hole course. There are a few, bit for those walking without a chair a couple more would be nice. And just one port a potty during summer months is not great.

This course test all skill levels. Great place to play. Worth a drive to check out!

This is a great course for all levels! Ace potential on a few different holes makes for exciting rounds. The atmosphere is brilliant. There's not much in the way of negatives at this course. Maybe bring some deet on muggy days

Played a C-Tier tournament here, and had a blast through 2-rounds of 24 holes. The overall layout of this course is wonderful. A pretty good mix of lefty and righty holes, and hole distances are varied as well. The designers did a great job of using the bushes, trees, brush, water and woods to shape the holes. Plenty of O.B. considerations really test your confidence, the wooded section plays great and should become better as it continues to wear in. Only a handful of tee shots require distance drivers, all others can be thrown with fairways and mids. The nice variety allows one to use their entire bag over the course of a round. Fresh concrete tee pads were installed nicely and I liked the baskets overall. Definitely worth checking out for anyone in the area. Great course!

A solid new course. This course has a lot going for it. 24 holes. Good terrain to work with. Spacious property. Excellent tee signs. Nice mix of short and long holes. Plenty of room to air out a rip on the open holes, but just enough of the shorter, technical holes to keep it interesting.

This was my first outing to the course and I was not disappointed. Gently sloping fairways and greens abound. Water comes into play on quite a few holes as well. Beautiful setting for a course. The course starts out in the open and has a nice alternation between righty and lefty-favored holes for you to navigate. It dips into thick woods towards the middle of the course, and then finishes in the open again. The tee signs are awesome. Vibrant colors, with illustrations of the hole layout on them.

The biggest problems with the course are the lack of concrete tees which will be fixed in time, no benches (Not a huge deal, but you would expect them on a course over 18 holes, especially a long course like this one. II think that will be fixed as well), and some of the open holes don't have enough obstacles to get around. I was told that they are thinking of planting some trees to fix this problem which is awesome. I did notice that there were a couple of issues finding the next hole. I can't remember the problem holes though. This could be easily fixed with next tee markers.

My last complaint is a unique one and I'm sure there will be some of you who disagree with me, but I'm not a big fan of these new mach X baskets. They were designed to help keep your disc in the chains, but instead I've noticed that they are prone to spit outs if you don't shoot hard at the chains. The extra chains almost act as a disc repellant. The extra weight pushes the disc back out unless you hit the basket hard. So, if you are a spin and loft putter instead of a line drive push putter, you might have some problems with these baskets. All in all though, this isn't a huge problem. It's more of a style adjustment issue.

Everything being taken into consideration, I am giving this course a 3. Once the issues mentioned above are fixed, this course will easily be a 3.5 if not a 4 star course.

- Slightly confusing navigating 15->16 and 23->24

Overall a nice course to play. The opening fairways are generously wide, with thick rough should you err.

My favorite hole was the one where the long tee is back by the parking lot and you can bomb a drive and weave it through the groves protecting the basket

Reservoir Ridge is a very good on course on the whole but has a few things that keep it from being top tier course. But it has a whole lot going for it too.

The setting is a beautiful park between two reservoirs. It seems that everything is very well kept. This does have a big impact on how the course plays as there are defined fairways. The majority of the open wholes have thick -- but not too bad -- grass/plants or are tree lined with a bunch of thick schule. I like how this is done to punish going off the fairways which are pretty generous and it had me looking for a couple discs for a while. I also think it's appropriate as the area is a bit of a wildlife sanctuary or something which a sign explains by holes 21-22.

My favorite holes were 12-18 which all in the woods with much tighter fairways and were more technical than the rest of the course which accounts for the shorter lengths. Hole 14 was the one hole that was not in the woods in this stretch but instead is a somewhat daunting downhill shot with the reservoir not far behind the basket with any easy risk of throwing into the water with a little too much power. Hole 7 is another shot with a water risk as a 190'ish shot across a small part of the Amann Reservoir.

The tee signs are top notch. The photos here on the website do perfect justice. There is also a course map and a sign explaining most of the basic rules of disc golf at the beginning of the course. That was something unexpected and they were very well done.

The new Mach X's are also worth mentioning. They're great.

The biggest thing holding this course from getting a higher rating from me is the lack of actual teepads. They are currently natural and the fronts are marked with yellow planks that do stick out. But nonetheless they are not concrete and this could be an area of great improvement.

This course gave me a weird feeling -- it's open but wooded. There isn't the most shot shaping here and it has an effect on the course. The fairways, for the most part, don't have any obstacles in them. It's just rather thick on either side.

This course has a grave need for benches. There are a few scattered along the course by the teepads, but there aren't many. Maybe 5 or six. I don't remember seeing any trash cans but I do remember seeing trash.

I do think that this course could be a 4 or 4.25 star course with some benches, trash cans, and when the concrete teepads get installed.

Very nice course. This course will make you use every shot in your bag. Fairways are mowed. The rough is pretty rough. 24 holes not once did it feel like I play same hole twice. Long and short tees on most holes. Some wide open shots some real tight shots.

Take a map...some of the tee locations get confusing while the course is being worked out. Bactrack after 18 up the fairway for 14 and across the road to play 19. (Fortunately there was still a sign from the grand opening tournament)

Still natural tees - will be great when concrete. (There is a kick plate at each tee location)

Right now the only cons are due to this being a brand new course. Still lots of overgrown brush, some adds to the challenge, while some is simply frustrating.

There has been a lot of talk about poison ivy. I have been in and out of the thick stuff, and I haven't been touched by the stuff, but watch out if you react to poison ivy and the like.

What a tremendous course for being brand new! The designers and the city have done a great job of considering the layout of the park and hole locations.

Bring bug spray for the holes in the woods down by the reservoir.

This course is worth driving to if you are coming in from out of the area.
