Part campus golf, part park golf

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 19, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

USU is kind of like two different courses in one especially since the last 7 holes are a few blocks away from the rest of the course and not even on campus but in a city park.

The first little stretch of holes play across a soccer field, very open and not very inspiring. From hole 4 onward you are throwing around the campus often against buildings or from elevated tee pads and even one hole has you throwing over the large water feature in the middle of the campus. After hole 11 is where you either walk balk to your car and drive to the park section or walk a few blocks, then walk back to the car after you're done.

Holes 12-18 play in this wooded section with low ceiling and short grass, perfect for rollers. Some elevation rounds out the obstacles and challenges you face on this short course. Speaking to some locals they said they have never played 1-11 and only play this stretch of 7 holes. Makes sense to me this is the most fun and challenging section.

Cons:

The long walks between holes and sections of the course aren't that bad but a little annoying mostly because wherever you park your car you're going to have to have a long walk to it at some point.

There were a lot of students walking from building to building while I was here and since the course plays through the campus I had to wait several times for students to move out of the way so I could throw.

It's not quite a 'pitch n putt' but it's short and even weenie arms can reach circle 1 most of the time out here. You still need good accuracy just know that you are going to be shooting under par pretty much always.

Other Thoughts:

Udisc has this place listed as an 18 hole course and a 7 hole course which was confusing. I was driving through the area looking for a leg stretcher and 7 holes sounded perfect. After figuring out it's actually 18 with 11 on one side and 7 on the other I just had to play the whole thing. +1 for using the DGCR app I guess, U disc as so many different layouts and temp courses and such but I digress.

Overall a pretty fun course but if you're just passing through play the 12-18 section it's much more enjoyable. A great course for newbies and stretching legs.

Where Have All The Students Gone? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 17, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

I played this course on a Saturday in October and the campus was an absolute ghost town! I didn't see a soul until I reached hole 8 and then a solitary person crossed over in front of me, possibly searching for water or the rest of his lost party. So strange?

The course plays in two parts; The front 9 plays through the campus buildings then back 9 starts up at Pioneer Park, a small city park just a block from campus.

The metal signs have the complete front 9 map on each of the signs complete with directions, par and distance. There are no tee pads, sidewalks and other concrete spaces are used instead. The baskets are the front 9 are Chainstar models. The back 9 has DGA models with the red #'s on top.

# 1 and # 2 are simple playing across the lawn at the beginning. I thought # 3 lost to construction but located the basket near the building with the squirrel in the cage (Yes, I found this a little strange too).
I couldn't find the tee for # 4 but found a basket. # 5 plays up the hill. Then # 6 basket is right next to some building. 7-8-9 criss-cross over the main square.

Now walk or drive the one block up past the swimming/wave pool to Pioneer Park.

This back 9 has a totally different feel. It plays just like any other city park course. It features some holes up on the bowl of the park which let you throw some big downhill air like # 16's 324' across the lawn. # 18 is a cool little 220' down run through the trees.

Cons:

Many players will miss the back 9 up in Pioneer Park.

The front 9 on campus would be a problem on days when students are present.

Front 9 holes are especially short (Pitch & Putt variety).

Other Thoughts:

The main bowl area of Pioneer Park reminds me of Ephesus with all of it's crumbling rocks. For about 98.4 % of you DGCR Review Readers who have no idea what an Ephesus is, Ephesus is the 2000 year old Roman ruins in southwestern Turkey close to the Aegean Sea. It seems the local teens in price have delighted in trying to tear down the rock walls in Pioneer Park and littering the park with the stones.

A tale of two courses 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 28, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

(Skip ahead to my other thoughts for the most helpful information.)
* A real variety and very unique course. It didn't get boring.
* Well-maintained.
* Decent signage, but really not outstanding signage.
* Flows well.

Cons:

* If you plan on playing while students are in session, be very careful not to injure anyone, which may be impossible to prevent because there are some blind throws.
* Unless you are very accurate, there is a good chance you are going to hit a building, light, sign, or other property. I hit all of them and saw some other players do the same (including losing a disc on top of a building.)
* There really aren't tee pads. The sidewalks sometimes act as the tee pads and sometimes you just have to pick a spot near the sign in the grass and call it good.

Other Thoughts:

This course was listed as 9 holes, but the local teenagers pointed out that 9 more holes have been added. I reported this and the site moderator quickly updated the information.

The first 9 are fun and play a bit like a miniature golf course with buildings, fountains, and other interesting obstacles in the way. Even though they are fun, I would only give the first 9 holes a 2 disc rating. It's basically a bunch of baskets thrown on a small campus between buildings that double as obstacles.

When the local teenagers told me there were 9 more holes located up by Pioneer Park, I decided to give them a try. It took me a while to locate it because there are other parks right next to it and my smart phone didn't even know the park existed. To find hole 10, head straight west a block or so until you find the Atari-looking red sculpture. There are holes 10 and 11, which are kind of a strange "in and back" sort of holes. 10 & 11 were probably stuffed where they were to transition the player from the main campus to Pioneer Park where holes 12 - 18 are located.

The Pioneer Park holes are really the gem of this course. If you are a purist or if you don't have a lot of time, head straight out there and play them once or twice. You won't be disappointed. I would rate them at a 3.5 and they really act as their own course. There are plenty of mature evergreens to navigate, great elevation changes, nice technical throws, longer holes (longer than the ones on campus anyway), just a better setup. Flow is good. Views are great. Shade is abundant. You won't lose a disc in this well-maintained park. These final 7 holes are worth playing if you are traveling through Price. Play the other 11 if you have time or if you can enjoy a course that isn't made for purists.

Short, decent 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Some interesting holes
Lots of birdies
Ace runs
Good upshot practice
Great for beginners
The best signs I have ever encountered - map of entire course on each sign, distance and directions easily read.

Cons:

Short holes
Would be difficult if class in session - all the holes are wrapping around buildings of college campus

Other Thoughts:

I played this course mid August, when class was not in session, and had a fun time (I enjoy getting easy birdies). I do not know how you would play this when class was in session, unless you used an ultimate disc and didn't mind hitting people. This course is certainly a menace!
The holes are all short enough that you could play with a putter and maybe a midrange. The course layout used the buildings well for a couple interesting shots and some blind curves (also a menace).
These honestly were the best signs I have encountered - I should have taken a picture as an example for other courses...
