I drove to Cosmos 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 1, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Inviting park that is generally empty and free of park goers. Nice signs at the tee pads. Hole 1, 2 and 4 were fun. Great course for the locals of the town of Cosmos to disc golf. There is a nice flower garden near one of the holes. 9 finishes right back at the car.

Cons:

Forced holes with lack of space. Hole 3 might be 100-130 feet with a near 90 degree turn through the woods. Throw a mini. Hole 6 is the longest hole that for plays over a sand volley ball court right where many would land on there way to the basket. Hole 7 is a straight flat 150 foot feeling hole with no challenge. Hole 8 is another short hole that is a soft blind hyzer. If you dont drop into the gap you might end up 10 feet from the pin with no look for a putt of any kind. Maybe 150 feet again?

Other Thoughts:

Some of the holes feel forced and are quite gimicky. Hole one is a poke and hope hole but finishes beautifully. Hole 2 is a nice challenge with the trees opening up to the lake. Hole 4 is a tough two with big trees guarding the basket. I would not drive to Cosmos again or go out of my way to play this course.

Solid course with real rough! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 21, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

--Alternate Tees that play very differently due to length and position.

-- Mix of longer and short holes

-- Opportunity to use backhand and forehand for both lefties and rights

--Real rough, many course don't have true rough but you can get in some gnarly stuff on this course.

--Mix of wooded and open holes, tightly wooded and lightly wooded.

-- Open holes are not wide open, challenging guardian trees increase difficulty.

-- Good course to practice on if you need to practice in the wind, the final four holes can get pretty windy.

--- restrooms, picnic areas, parking

Cons:

---Not much change in elevation.

---Hole three is almost a clown hole, mostly due to brush needing to be cleared. Might be my skill level but there doesn't seem to be true line on this hole.

--- Tee signs seem like they are put in backwards making it hard to orient yourself if you don't know the course.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, a great course for the small space to work with, very challenging for a small 9 hole course. I think that there are really two signature holes on this course. Hole #1 downhill toward the water and left dogleg into the woods. Hole #4, low ceiling dogleg to the right into the woods. Probably the two most enjoyable holes on the course to me. I also really love the fact that when you pull up you see the holes in the open and start thinking birdies but the pin placement and guardian trees make it much more difficult than you'd think.

Fun little 9 hole 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 22, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Long and short tee pads will make for very different play
- Nice signs and an easy layout to figure out
- New framed tee pads with baseball field gravel are nice for this type of pad
- Good use of the land they had to work with
- Great combination of different types of holes from open to heavily wooded
- Park was nicely maintained

Cons:

- Could use additional brush removal and clearing between some holes
- Walk from #3 to #4 required jumping across standing water - path needs some fill
- Wet conditions will produce a lot of mosquitoes

Other Thoughts:

I played two rounds for the first time from the short tee's and am looking forward to playing it again from the long...from what I saw, I expect it to play quite a bit different, not only due to the increased length but because of different angles created by the alternate pad locations. Hole #1 is slightly downhill and through mature trees with water long. The day I played the wind was gusting off the lake making putts interesting; I really enjoyed this hole. Hole #2 has water left and a shed right but a straight drive is all you need to easily make par. Much like #1, if the wind is blowing off the lake, things become much more interesting. Hole #3 is wooded, really short and a good birdie opportunity (the mosquitoes were bad here). Holes 5, 6 and 7 are pretty open but mature trees guard against some preferred lines. The 8th hole I didn't like at all... super short and blind; this would be an easy birdie once you understand where to throw (a little gimmicky in my opinion).... #9 finishes right back where you started. Give this course a try, it plays quick and offers a little something for everyone.

Highway 7 - 9 Hole 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 28, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great location - 30mins from Hutchinson, Willmar, and Litchfield. The park is well kept. Great example of adding disc golf to an under utilized park.
Duel Tee pads are Great
Local Crow River club - supports the course
Lake access on site

Cons:

Poison Ivy in the weeds
This is going to be sprayed by the county

Other Thoughts:

Signs should be in now.
Concrete pads in the future would be better.

Challenging New 9 Holer 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 28, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Nice new baskets.
+Dual tees with significant difference between the holes. My first time out, I shot a 7 stroke difference between the two sets. The longs are a lot longer but also usually offer tougher lines instead of a more straight approach.
+A little bit of elevation on a few holes. Both shoot downhill so it may be a con that there isn't really a hole that shoots uphill.
+A great mix of open, slightly wooded and true wooded holes. Even the open holes have some challenges. 5-6-7 are all fairly open but the first two have some obstacles as well as plenty of distance and 7 has a tree protecting the basket and OB behind and left of the hole.
+Some ace runs, especially from the shorts, if you hit your lines right. At the same time, a bad shot on these holes could net you a 4 or worse.
+Pretty high overall fun factor for me at this course.
+The course is very easy to find. You can park at either parking lot but turning into the first entrance works best. There is plenty of parking, bathrooms, playgrounds, shelters, etc.

Cons:

-Potential to lose a disc in the water on hole 1 or 2 and in the woods, trees, or tall grass on a few others. All hazards are fair in my opinion.
-Holes 8 and 9 will require more wood chips or routine clearing of the brush in order to keep them under control.
-The tees are made of baseball field gravel. They work alright but are not ideal. Concrete is much better.
-No signs right now. This should be remedied soon and I will update my review to reflect that.
-This course does flow pretty close to some other park activities but this is a small county park outside of a small town so this shouldn't be a concern most of the time.

Other Thoughts:

+There was a lot of work done on this course and it doesn't appear to need a lot of breaking in. I am sure that more lines will be found for all holes as time goes on but it is quite playable right away.
+With signs and concrete, I could see rating this a 3.5 which is impressive for a 9 hole course. My favorite 9s are rated 3.5. This area is full of solid 9 hole courses, an 18 is needed soon.
+I would totally recommend a stop here. It is a fun and challenging course and 18 holes can be made with the dual tees. It is easy to find just off highway 7.
