The main course at Lake Dillon is one of the more picturesque courses you'll play. There's 18 holes playing through a mixture on pines, aspens and shaggy prairie grasses and brush. Elevation is ever present out here, especially towards the beginning. It eases up on the back nine, but never entirely.

The baskets are Discatchers with the yellow bands. Easy enough to spot in most places. All are in good shape and caught great. Two pin placements per hole with a single basket. All were mounted level. Zero complaints with these.

Basic signs but effective. These have a basic hole map showing both pin positions, hole #, and distances. The best part about the signs is that they have either an orange or a blue circle bolted to the sign denoting which pin position is in the ground. All were accurate too. Always love when there's something like this on signs with multiple pin positions.

The flow of the course is pretty simple to follow. There was on one time where I needed to consult the map, besides finding the first hole that is. There's next tee arrows hanging from the bottom of most of the cages. A few were missing, but most had them. These were very helpful.

There's a decent mix of different shot shapes required out here. Most holes are basically right in front of you, but there's a few that bend one way or the other. Even the straight shots require some shaping due to the multiple pines on most of the holes. There's a good mix of up and downhill holes too. A few pretty extreme downhill ones even, which are always fun to throw.

Concrete tees on each hole. One tee per hole. These were all pretty well done, though pretty small. The pads themselves were plenty grippy and most were level.

The course is free to play too. Restroom by the parking lot during the warmer months and pet friendly. This course is probably not usually too busy due to the rugged nature of it.

My number one con here is the absurd walk just to reach the tee for hole 1. You'll be sucking air before you throw a single shot if you're not used to this altitiude. I've never took a break before throwing a shot before. Until today. At least it ends near the lot though.

Lots of potential for lost plastic here. There's no landmarks on the prairie holes. Especially the downhill ones. You better try to really find something to help you locate your disc. A darker clump of brush, ten feet left of that more openish area, whatever. I'm actually mildly shocked we didn't lose anything today. Spent a decent amount of time looking though.

This isn't really a con, more a warning. This course is a serious hike. I could definitely feel the elevation up here. There's some sketchy downhill walks too. Be sure to take your time going down some of these hills. This is not the place you want to roll an ankle. Lots of loose gravel. Also be sure to bring plenty of liquids, especially if you're not used to playing at elevation.

Kind of repetitive feeling course to be honest. It's a beautiful piece of land, but the golf isn't nearly as epic as the views.

This course is definitely worth a play if you find yourself up this way. I was honestly expecting more from it though. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun course but I just can't see rating it above a 3.5, which is very good. But that's it. I'm in the minority but that's the reality.

A course with beautiful views and some massive elevation plays.

-Basics: Concrete tees, DISCatchers, marginally helpful tee signs that sometimes have pin position indicators.

-Scenery: Out of the many beautiful Colorado courses I played in summer 2021, possibly the most beautiful. Mountain vistas surround you on all sides constantly, and on many holes you can see the Dillon Reservoir below, which is just gorgeous.

-Elevation: Among the most consistent and dramatic of any course I've played (Bucksnort is the only other place I have in mind that really compares). Some holes are uphill slogs and some have valleys or ridges that make the shaping way more fun. The highlights are a couple of dramatic downhill bombs on (4), (5), and (7), although several others such as (18) would be elevation highlights on any other course.

-Shot Shaping/Gameplay: Varying levels. There are some wide open shots only made interesting by elevation, mainly the front half. There are a few great shot shaping holes that combine the slopes with gaps and fairways for excellent gameplay, namely (10)-(11) and (15)-(16). And there are quite a few stylistically halfway between, with some trees to deal with but pretty simple shapes--hyzers and such--to deal with. Obviously, dealing with steep elevation will also be a challenge.

-Multi-Pins: Some holes have multiple placements.

-Second Course: Having the family course on site is cool, because it's appropriate for beginners. The main course is not, at all.

Definitely a few cons to balance out the pros somewhat.

-Blind Shots: The tee signs aren't really helpful other than describing lengths, and most shots are blind. Furthermore, the faded yellow baskets blend in perfectly with the terrain. This results in a lot of guesswork, which can get frustrating.

-Lost Disc: Due to the above con, lost disc potential is high. The elevation also hurts here, as a shot can duck over a hill and you'll have no idea which scrubby bush to look in for it. Also, on downhill bombs, if the wind takes a disc it'll sail for days, quite possibly out of sight.

-Variety: Other than a couple of long pins, all par-3s. This is rather disappointing, as you could make some epic par-4s out here. There are also a lot of shapes that are pretty ho-hum, including wide open ones. I'm curious what a re-routing of this course would do for it.

-Long Walk: It's about a half mile uphill to get to the first tee. If you play the family course first, it cuts off a third or half of that walk.

-Exposure: Brutal sun and wind on the hillside. Don't forget about afternoon mountain storms, either, and be smart about when you play.

Lake Dillon is a truly special course for its massive elevation and incomparable views. I can see why it's rated so highly. Personally, I found the gameplay to be underwhelming for the environment, so my rating is a little lower. On the whole, though, it is a Very Good course, and will stay in the mind of any player for quite some time.

- Course map at the parking lot (take a picture).
- A great 10-minute warm-up hike to the 1st tee.

- Multiple tee signs missing pin location marker.
- A lack of trash cans is possibly causing a litter problem.
- Tee pads might be small for some players.
- Disc loss risk is moderate to high.

Lake Dillon - Main starts near the Archery Range on Cemetary Rd. If your GPS tells you to turn onto Evergreen Road like ours did, ignore it. Just stay on 6 to Cemetary Road which is 3.5 miles from the exit.

The course begins at about 9,300' in elevation, climbs a few hundred more during the first 2 holes before leveling off, and descending back to 9,300 for the back nine. The altitude may impact some players, but the course itself is not strenuous. It's a fairly easy hiking path.

This place is gorgeous with Dillon Reservoir as a backdrop for many of the holes, especially the back 9. The Front 9 has more wide-open shots with punishing thigh-high sagebrush for rough that hides discs well. Having a spotter isn't a bad idea. The back 9 is flatter and more technical. Tight gaps through the woods reward clean flights but the trees can be brutal, often only offering a pitch-out. Take your time and catch your breath.

Bring water, snacks and sunscreen. We played as a duo with light traffic and finished in 2.5 hours. The wind picks up in the afternoons in the mountains, so plan to play here early.

This is not a Disc Golf only park. You will encounter hikers, dirt bikers and mountain bikers so be aware before you throw.

Not all of the basket locations are clear, so I hiked ahead to figure out where we were headed. Once again, a spotter is a good idea.

Many complain about the 10-minute walk to the 1st tee, but I actually like it. It gives me a chance to clear my head, and start thinking about what's to come.

Final thought: I love this place. Throwing discs against that scenery makes for a very memorable round. A few holes are bland, but the rest are all great tests. If your road trip is along I-70 in Colorado, you should definitely make a stop here. It's too close and too good to pass up.

I liked the ups and downs of this mountainous disc golf adventure, but the lines aren't easy, especially if you're not accustomed to the thin mountain air. The low tree lines and scrub grass can conceal shots that leave the designated landing zones, so conservative shots can pay off strategically. Considerable elevation changes are in play on multiple holes, and the wind will play a factor at times as well.

There are concrete tees with signs for all 18 holes, and Discatchers with the classic yellow rims. Signs and baskets are good, and there are two pin locations on most holes. Current pin placement is indicated on the signs, and arrows hang from each basket to point the way to the next tee. One par 4 to make a par 55 layout. Drives are blind to the pin on quite a few holes, and some challenging directional throws are required to find the best way there.

The first hole is a hike from the parking lot. There are signs that will get you there fairly easily. It is uphill, I had to take a breather halfway. You get a good feeling for the course on the first three holes. The consistency of the woods and playing the slopes. Holes 4-8 are a bit more open and the elevation change becomes a bit more prominent.

Hole 4 is the first downhiller, and the first great vista from the tee. Longish, with a steady downhill trajectory. 6 is a free flying, downhill run that approaches fast. Trees line the left side of the fairway. A strong wind was blowing across the hole right to left. I didn't play it out far enough got caught in the wind. It sent my Roc over the trees and far into the rough. 8 is the way up high to far below in a hurry shot that any mountain course will be centered around. This one is really wide open, and the wind created uncertainty as to what to throw and where will it go? Two baskets are in play on 8. There is a short pin that is near the path to tee 1, and a long pin that crosses the path and gets deep into the wild.

The back 9 are where the lines tighten up and more precision is called for. Good mix of lefts and rights. with some well protected pin placements. I liked holes 11 and 12 a lot. 11 is uphill slightly with a bit of left to right approaching the basket. 12 is downhill, and has room above the right side to air it out, but plenty of trees to the left.

Aside from the long walk to the first tee, I haven't got many reasons to gripe. Take water and any other provisions with you, won't be near the car again until the round is finished.

Wear good shoes, there are spots where footing can be a bit uncertain. Beginners will be tested thoroughly.

Overall this is a pretty difficult but fun course. Scenery is awesome. A shorter, 12 hole family course on site as well. More extremes than Peak One in nearby Frisco, but not quite as thrilly as the A Basin ski area course.

I was way over par, but I didn't lose any discs. Only made one birdie, on hole 8. Lake Dillon was a great start to my weekend of disc golf in Colorado.

- Most baskets have "Next Tee" arrows
- Great layout making use of the elevation and trees.
- Excellent variety of shots.
- 360 degree beautiful views

- There is a bike trail and hiking trail running through part of it, but both were lightly used

- The hike to the 1st tee from the parking lot is pretty long, so be prepared. It is totally understandable with the space available for the course.
- There are tags at the tees to indicate the basket position, but quite a few of the tags were missing
- The tee pads could be a foot longer... or if not that, it would be very helpful if the front of the tee pad was level with the ground.
- A wish list would include a few steps down the steep part of hole 8's fairway. There is a way around that isn't as steep, but it seemed like everyone tried to negotiate the steep path.
- The wish list would also include elevation information for each hole

Hole 8 off the cliff is a lot of fun...seeing how well you can get distance with the 100 foot of drop.
Use bright discs. There are a number of holes with 1-2 foot tall sage brush that can make locating your drive a challenge.
With the altitude and the up and down of the course, allow extra time to play and bring water.

Fun but challenging course.

Once you get to #1, the course is fairly easy to follow. Good signage.
The long downhill throws are fun to watch.
After the very long downhill #8, climbing back up for the rest of the course was a good test of character or maybe athletic ability.
Loved #8.

The 9 hole "family" near to the parking lot is a great course for all ability levels. Short but challenging basket placements. For more experienced players, birdies are readily available but you can end up with a bogey as well.

Starting at altitude (~9000 feet), you have to climb UP, 10-15+ minutes just to reach the first tee. Then throw up hill to the basket and then continue up to #2 tee. For coach potatoes or people coming from the low lands, this can be very challenging.

Bring water and wear a good pair of shoes.
Sunscreen should probably be worn.
Pay attention to the weather. We played early in the day to avoid any issues.
Many things to do in the area, so this is a good place to come for a few days. Kayaking on Lake Dillon is also fun.
Wonderful area.

This is such a fun round!

+ The course flows very well. There are red "next hole" arrows below each basket that point golfers in the right direction. The paths are also worn enough that it's easy enough to follow them along to the next tee.

+ Great condition. From my understand, the course is only a few years old, so the concrete tees, illustrative tee signs, course map at the beginning of the course, and baskets are all in great shape. Even better since this course is free-to-play, unlike many courses in the area.

+ This course is challenging, but fair. The elevation changes, coupled with the wind and the trees, make this a tough but enjoyable round. There's a good mix of up/down (though more down than up), left/right, and short/long. The two pin placements offer enough variety to really change the hole.

+ Stunning views of Dillon. Even my wife, who struggles to make it through 9-holes, stayed with me the entire 18, taking pictures the whole time.

+ Hole 8, the course's signature hole, is downright phenomenal. It's such a blast to throw, though the hike down to approach/putt is not as fun.

+ Solely for disc golf! The course neighbors a cemetery, but aside from this, you'll only encounter other disc golfers here. I'm not really a fan of throwing while there's a family of 6 grilling brats in the fairway, so I'm glad we avoided that!

- The walk to #1, 10 minutes and uphill, is a bit rough. But I understand that designers have limitations and I believe there is a shorter pitch-n-putt course going in between the parking lot and hole 1's tee. This will add great value to course and increasing the competition between here and Peak One on the other side of the lake (I will play it next time I'm in the area! Could be a couple years...).

- Make sure to throw bright colored discs...reds and blues, especially. It's very tricky to find certain colors, like yellow or white, in the mountain landscape.

As you can tell, I had a blast playing here. The downside is that it takes a toll on you. I would have played another round, but I was concerned that the high elevation (9500' ft or so), would have wiped me out. If you're from out of town (like me), make sure to take it slow so you don't wreck yourself.

It doesn't get much better than this folks. This course is relatively new...ish... and still flies under the radar compared to the popularity of Frisco DGC. I almost don't want to add another gushing review for fear of course getting crowded, but I have to keep it real with ya'll. This course is 10 minutes from my house and I'm so thankful that I get to play it frequently. Incredibly beautiful, long holes, and creative use of just the right amount of wooded areas. It's hard to lose a disc on this course but it can happen in a few of the denser scrub brush areas. IMHO the scrub brush is much easier to find your disc in than the long/tall grasses found at some lower elevation courses. Have your friend film you on hole #8 for a scenic glory shot that should immediately go to your instagram.

Long walk uphill to start hole #1 will feel daunting if you are out of shape or not used to the altitude. It kicks our butts every time and we are avid hikers already acclimated to elevation!

Only other thing this course could use is a good signage update with pars, distances and tee placements.

Well marked, next tee signs on every basket. Signs leading from parking lot to tee 1, which includes a sign 1/2 way that tells you it is +/- 5 more minutes to tee 1. Challenging tunnel shots. Massive downhill shot. Family friendly short 9 hole planned for installation next to parking lot.

No bathrooms. Small parking lot. No trash cans. Mixed use area. Watch out for hikers, horses and cyclists. Very easy to temporarily lose discs in the brush.

Wow. I got the chance to meet up with some friends from Missouri to play this course. It is absolutely beautiful. From the parking lot, its a 10 minute hike uphill to tee 1. That's the most strenuous part of the course. It is well laid out, mostly level (moderate up and down) and has a great big air hole (#8). In the short position, it is 450+ feet. In the long position, it is 740 feet or so. Most baskets have multiple pin positions, and the tee signs tell you which position it is in that day. *Fair Warning* it is a high altitude course, about 9,100' ASL. Discs fly very different up here. Folks from lower altitudes may struggle with the thinner air and lower oxygen levels. My friends live at 630', I live at 5,400', and we all huffed and puffed a bit on the march to Tee 1. Take your time, and bring plenty of water.

-Almost too scenic to believe. Gorgeous mountain vistas, a top-of-the-world hole, stunning downhill views of Lake Dillon.

-Requires every shot in your bag, maybe even some ones you aren't sure you've got.

-Concrete tee pads

-Tee signs show flight patterns for all placements and show which place the pin is at that day.

-Minimal blind shots for a mountain course

-Plays in a loop with the finishing holes rewarding you with sharp, downhill birdie opportunities.

-The hike to hole one saps a bit of pre-round energy.

-Mountain weather. While normally gorgeous, if you're unfortunate enough to catch a late afternoon thunderstorm on hole 7, you're going to have to ride it out.

-Wind bounces can turn nice shots nasty mid flight.

In my opinion, disc golf is either a sport or a hobby depending on where you're playing. This is a course where it is a sport 100% of the time. If you're not expecting it, the hike to hole #1 is daunting. You're looking at nearly a mile of uphill climbing. I don't personally see this as a con, but even if you do, the reward of playing a course halfway up and on the side of a true mountain is soooooooooooo worth it. This course guards its baskets perfectly, with most holes offering a variety of challenging but fair lines you can throw. There aren't too many "must get" birdies, but almost all the holes CAN be birdied by a player with an average arm. The top-of-the-world hole might be the best single disc golf hole I've ever played. When playing with friends, the high risk/high reward nature of most holes lends itself to a lot of lead changes, which I love in my competitive group. This course ranks with Conifer as the primo public course in the state and I bet it will soon find itself in the top ranked courses nation wide. There isn't a particular reason I rated this course a 4.5 compared to a 5, other than my inherent belief that a better course could exist somewhere. That being said, I have yet to find it, and Dillon is the best overall course I've thrown. Well worth a drive from Denver to play.

This is a beautiful mountain course and is worth the drive from Denver. Despite having never played this course before, we didn't have a problem finding the next tee pad or hole. There were some blind shots but the course wasn't crowded so we had the time to walk out the hole if we couldn't see the basket. There is a map of the course in the parking lot which helped a lot. Also the uDisc app is great. This is a free course but I honestly would put the quality up there with Beaver Ranch or Bailey and liked it better than the $20 pay to play Bucksnort.

Recommend for anyone travelling to the High Country, and if you are in good shape; make it a double with Peak One DGC across the lake.

The area is beautiful.
Good mix of elevation change and variety in distance.
Like others have said, you can let your dog run under voice command and get a good workout.
The huge downhill throw for 8 is fun.

Not the easiest course to follow. There are "next tee" signs on every basket, but could be better.
Tee sighns give little indication as to basket placement. Nothing a walk can't solve, but a walk down the majority of the fairwayswas a bit much.
Some may find the hike to tee 1 annoying, but I enjoyed it.a
Watch your disc closely. The sage brush will hide even the brightest colors.

I really want to go back in a few years and see if the course gets more work. Looked like new tee signs may be installed, wood chip piles looked ready to be used for trail marking or something. With a few details cleaned up this course could be really great. Would recommend blocking off a little extra time if you're not familiar with the course, or hope for locals to help.

- A bonus tee to the right of the 18th basket (looking towards the parking lot) allows you to let one rip one last time before you are done for the day (I would recommend something like a mid-range Roc as to avoid hitting any cars that may be in the lot)

- Tee's can be difficult to find if you've never played the course before
- The sagebrush thoroughly enjoys hiding your discs from you, keep an eye on your flight path

This is my favorite course in Summit County, it rarely if ever gets crowded. Bring your dogs and let them romp around as you take your time playing the course.

-Great mix of holes, there are plenty that are technical and require you to hit lines, but there are also a couple huge bombers.
-Awesome views of lake Dillon and the towns of Dillon and Frisco
-Good use of elevation many downhill holes and a couple slight uphill
-Navigation from hole to hole, there are arrows on the bottom of every basket pointing you to the next teepad and there are good paths to and from each
-Cement tee pads

-Only one course map at the bottom
-Small hike to hole one but nothing that you aren't used to if you're from Colorado or spend a lot of time in the mountains.
-The tee pads are small making it hard to get a good rip on those huge drives
-A good Thurber can put you in position on just about every single hole (besides maybe one or two)

This course offers a great mix of elevation, wooded holes, and open shots. With holes lengths varying from 236' out to 533' you'll get the chance to drive with everything from putters to long-distance drivers.

Good variety of holes from wide open to wooded. While many holes allowed "typical" RHBH hyzer approaches, several favored dead straight drives, a few called for RHFH, and one (Hole 16) needed a big sweeping anny drive.

Good level concrete tees with acceptable texture, and Innova Discatchers with that nice visible yellow band. Tee signs were simple painted circles with hole number and distance only.

Great mix of uphill, sidehill, and downhill holes. Hole 8 is the signature "top-of-the-world" shot that will tempt you to throw your whole bag. Beware that the vegetation below is excellent at hiding discs!

Navigation was easy, with well-worn trails from hole to hole. There are a some arrows to the next tees (especially on the back nine) that made it that much easier to play the course. I had the map but didn't need it.

Long walk to the first tee from the parking area. Google Maps says about 1/2 mile, and I believe it. It is uphill so you'll be warmed up before you begin. At least Hole 18 drops you right back at the parking lot. I'd rather have that long walk before the round than after.

There are no real tee signs, though it appeared that new poles were being installed when I played. Perhaps there are tee signs on the way?

A few holes require blind drives, and the sagebrush type vegetation does a pretty good job of concealing discs. I had my wife along as a spotter and appreciated the extra set of eyes on a few holes.

Some trails within the course were being used by walkers and mountain bikes. Not much of an issue on Monday morning, but I wonder if weekends would bring more significant conflicts.

After playing the nearby Frisco course and being a little disappointed, I was pleasantly surprised by the Lake Dillon DGC. Between the significant elevation and the good use of available trees, I found it challenging and enjoyable.

I played early on a summer morning and was comfortable. I would imagine that afternoon could get pretty toasty out on the exposed holes. Bring plenty of water.

If you are not adjusted to the altitude a few of the climbs could be tough, but not terrible.

The course is layed out well with clear paths to follow to goals and tee pads with signage so navigating is easy. The tees aren't huge but they are nice concrete pads and the goals are discatchers. This is a nice mix of up, downhill, open, and wooded shots that keep the course interesting, especially the long downhill bombers. The scenery is really nice throughout the course with awesome views of the lake and mountains.

Not a con for me but some would complain about the uphill climbs, particularly up to hole 1. Having some blind shots could mean possibly searching for your disc. Certain parts of the course layout make it a hazard for stray discs from other tee pads.

Overall, it was a really nice course. I liked that it was challenging but I feel like I could still get a good shot on all the holes without needing a miracle. Hole 8 is a 500 ft. bomber downhill that has the most elevation drop I have ever seen on a hole and is a lot of fun to throw. Great course to visit if you are in the area or if you're an avid player living within 100 miles of this course, it is worth checking out.

Overall I real quality course, but you better be ready for a serious work out. Bring water and boots.
