A Discraft Zone zone

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 27, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Concrete teepads
-Innova DiscCatcher baskets
-Nice new, graffiti-free tee signs
-Intuitive layout
-Was virtually deserted during my round

Cons:

-Overlaps with baseball diamonds, so I'm sure there are times its unusable
-Short teepads
-Some inaccuracy on tee sign distances
-Short in general

Other Thoughts:

First off, I want to give this course a little love. Nicely laid concrete teepads, permanent tee signs with line and distance, and top-tier baskets - all of that stuff together bumps a course at least a star for me. It's not a given that stuff is included in a little public park 9 like this, in fact usually it isn't the case. Look, you know what you should be expecting when you pull up to a course like this - the holes are all pretty short (longest hole is like 270 with the rest much shorter, <200 I think), it's pretty easy. But there's still some fun on this one! They didn't have a ton of room to work with, and I thought they did surprisingly well with what they had. A short course is better than no course! There's even a bit of water in play on hole 5, and hole 6 is a very unique hole, which I don't say much about these style of courses.

Now, on to the criticisms. While there's some fun short course action on the first 6, it really peters out on the last 3 holes. Its kind of just throwing back and forth to an open basket to finish. While the permanent tee signs are great and a nice touch, some of the distances are wildly inaccurate. Hole 7 I believe, is off by like 70 feet compared to what is on UDisc (which seem more correct to me). Hole 1 is pretty wrong too. They are also positioned weird on a few holes. This combined with the shorter than standard teepads makes for awkward runups in a few spots. On one hole the teesign post is literally touching the back right corner of the teepad, ie. where I start my runup. Thankfully, most holes are so short you probably don't need much run up. The overlap with the baseball diamonds is unfortunate, though it didn't affect my Friday afternoon round and again, they had to work with the space they had.

Overall is this course anything special? No, but it did exceed my very modest expectations based on it's current rating. I've played much worse 9s. Perfect course for beginners just learning the game. Fun spot for ace runs. Or do what I did and use it as a warm up round for HA Meyer, a nice 18 hole that's just 10 minutes up the road.

Intro course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

A putter friendly , short intro course in Cascade , Memorial Park is a very flat course running counter clockwise around the other park amenities , like the ball fields and tennis courts . The course has nice concrete tee pads , good baskets and an easy enough flow to it . NDN ( No Driver Needed ) , so bring and approach disc and your putter . Maybe bring 2 putters , because I lost mine throwing past hole 5 . This course is an exceleent How-DO-You-Do couurse for the kids , familes and beginners . If it had a signature hole , I would say it is #6 , a window uphill shot over the creek and to the right . Putting basket is behind the first building that you see when you park

Cons:

Only real elevation is a downhill putter throw with a fence behind it on #2 . The holes play real short and open . Some wind in this park . Take it for what it is , a kids course or a quick round for a bagger .

Other Thoughts:

Families that picnic here , someone new to the game , grade school kids . Those are all I would include coming here . Easy in , no frills , easy out , like your pizza . 30 minutes or lees , or your round is free .

For beginners only 2+ years

Pros:

9 hole course winding around a multi-use park in the small town of Cascade, WI.

Innova Discatcher baskets, brand new. 16 chains and caught very well. Red powder coated and easy to spot.

Concrete tee pads were grippy and nice, but short. At 6' long, they don't allow for much of a run up...but as short as the course is, you may not need it.

Navigation was very simple, as the course basically winds around the softball diamonds, and all baskets are very visible.

Cons:

No tee signs at the present time. I'm not sure if they're in the works, so we shall see.

As mentioned above, the tee pads are very short. They were well poured, so you should be able to use the areas behind the them for extra run up.

There's not a lot of intrigue or excitement to the shots here. Most of them are wide open, with little in the way of obstacles. There is a small creek/river that runs along a few of the holes, but you'd have to miss pretty big to have it be a factor.

There are some safety concerns here, as many/most of the holes wrap around the softball diamonds and into the overflow parking for the park. If there's any action on the diamonds, you're not going to be able to play the course.

Other Thoughts:

From what I've been told, this course was put in as an Eagle Scout project. I'd assume it's catering to the kids in this small town, and with that, it's not all bad. Most of the holes are ace run types, and as such, it's definitely accessible to all ages and skill levels. Just don't come here looking for a challenge.

It's a course, with great baskets, in a great little town. Nothing more, nothing less.
