Not much to see 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 29, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is intended to introduce students who go to the school where the course is set to the sport of disc golf. That's awesome. Grow the sport!

And the baskets are nice.

Cons:

There is not much to see here, folks. There are three baskets, two are in the woods and one is at the edge of a field. I couldn't find a single tee (natural or otherwise) or marker of where I'm supposed to start for any hole. The way to find each basket is to wander down trails (they're pretty easy to find -- I only went down one wrong trail). Some trails lead you to the baskets, some don't.

There are no fairways. Just a field and a couple trails in the woods. Unfortunately, there's some poison ivy around, which is not going to get people excited about disc golf. Based on the first review on the site, it sounds like there used to be tees and the fairways were more defined. That's not the case anymore. I will say that you could probably make a half-decent disc golf hole out of #3, but I didn't have time to explore possible places to tee off.

The clearings that the baskets are in are too small and the trails are too narrow. As a beginner course, there should be fairways wider than a hiking trail and a landing area of modest size. I imagine kids who play here would kick into the brush on a very regular basis and quickly become frustrated.

Other Thoughts:

It's cool that this course exists and hopefully some local kids have been turned onto the sport and enjoy playing here. The field is good for throwing and putting practice. But otherwise, this is not a worthwhile disc golf experience. Some of the reviews made me think there would be a few, solid fun holes here, but that wasn't the case for me (although, again, there may be a chance that with time and creativity, hole 3 could be turned into a so-so disc golf hole). I agree with the previous post that it's certainly not a course. The land doesn't lend itself to a half-decent disc golf experience, although tees/markers would help, as would widening the "fairways."

great exposure opportunity for the sport. But not a DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 3, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Course provides opportunity to expose new players to the sport. Also can show non-disc playing adults that disc golf is a fun, healthy activity that can be enjoyed by close friends or diverse groups of every type.
Provides practice baskets for locals.
Hole #3 is a good disc golf hole.
Fulfills its intended purpose well. If I was a PE teacher, would rate this place a 3, good for a high school course.
Very cool view straight ahead as one pulls off Mountain Rd and onto the school entry road.

Cons:

Course is closed during school hours during the academic year.
Has only 3 baskets and 1 marked tee box.

Other Thoughts:

So cool that this type of disc golf place exists to expand the sport and is worked into the high school curriculum. Good luck to Explore DG Foundation in spreading the good word. My ranking in support of what they are doing is 5 out of 5.
The baskets here were not installed nor intended for a player like me, so I hope the designers and promoters are not offend by my ranking. It is not 'passable' as a disc golf course. This site reviews disc golf COURSES.
A place that is often off limits is not a good practice site. Holes 1 and 4 can be recreated in any flat wide open field, anywhere. What White Brook does have are real baskets and those are good for practicing.

Nice practice course. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 7, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

mixture of tight and open fairways, hyzer and anhyzer. Great baskets, and basket locations.
This is a good place to practice, if you live in the area.

Cons:

Short of course as it is only four holes, though there is a trail going by hole 2 from the north, that could be used for another approach to the basket. Sadly, as is the case with other schools and colleges (umass, hcc), without support from a local club, expansion, upgrading, and maintenance will be nil.

Other Thoughts:

Nonotuck park is directly to the north and east of the school, I would imagine that some of it has common borders with the school, and it would be great, if this course could be expanded into that area.

Bringing Disc Golf to Schools 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 6, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Interesting mix of holes. With only 3 baskets get a straight open hole, a short tight right turning hole, an interesting double dogleg over a gulley, then the long open "bonus" hole back to the first basket.
-Integrating with the school PE curriculum
-Plays on the edge of school grounds bordering on wooded park land.
-Great layout for first timers and beginners. Low chance of loosing a disc, but still requires learning a variety of shots
-Spectacular view of Mt. Tom from the finishing hole
-DiscCatcher Pro baskets
-Nice log bench next to the second tee
-Cool log bridge over the stream on the 3rd hole.

Cons:

-Just 3 baskets
-On school grounds, which limits public access to non-school hours

Other Thoughts:

First tee a short walk from the parking lot, near the old tennis court. Open shot, but under throw a right to left shot or over shoot a left to right shot and and the slope catches your drive.

The second hole is short but you better hit a low tight line to get your birdie.

The third hole holds it own with any of the "big courses" in the area. Tee over a small stream and turn it a little left to hit the landing zone, then you might need a little right turn on your approach. Two is a great score, three is a good score. Beginners should play this hole as a par 4. The final hole is a long straight shot back to the first basket. Feel free to adjust the tee location to your skill level!

This is the second school course donated by the Explore Disc Golf Foundation, designed to get young people involved in the sport of disc golf. It's also a wonderful resource for local players to tune up their game.
