An hour and a half of disappointment 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 20, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

I played the 21 hole layout, and went in excited for some quality holes. And there were a few of those.

The holes follow an old ball golf course at some points, and a bayou for most of the course, winding through a neighborhood (see course map for details). Holes are pretty long and open field style.

Baskets were a mix of discatcher and mach V's, all in good condition.

Cons:

You'd think being on the straight paths of fields through the neighborhood, navigation wouldn't be a problem but it was. I eventually got tired of trying to pull up the map every 10 minutes, and just skipped two holes. One was 12 when hole 11 led me to a bridge back across the bayou, and when I crossed 13 was on the other end. And then I finished hole 17, saw the next tee, but it said 19. I just went with it.

The holes felt pretty long and repetitive. There wasn't a lot to work with, but honestly after 6 holes I felt like I had seen all this course was going to offer, and wasn't surprised for the rest of the day.

The tee pads aren't just dirt, they're grass. The pads are overgrown, probably because of understandable lack of use. There are also no signs, just small posts in the ground. Some of the navigation issues may be due to them getting mowed over and damaged.

The grass had mower-lines through it, but was just so long. Everywhere. I think they just mowed it with a low-flying aircraft.

Other Thoughts:

I came in expecting one of the better courses in Houston, and instead feel like I just got a hike through tall grass and weeds, littered with condom wrappers and their used contents. I really don't see this course being more than "Typical" given it's stubborn straightforwardness and openness, especially with it's difficult to find tees.

If I lived in the neighborhood, I'm sure I would play this a lot. You don't HAVE to use the same throw every hole if you don't want to, but whatever your max distance throw is, expect to use it all day.

After only a few holes I felt myself just being done with this round, and slugged it out partially so I could write a complete review, and because I wanted to give it a chance to redeem itself. I can't say it every turned it around, there aren't any holes I want to remember and play again, and the best holes were at the end because it meant I had finally finished.

Probably my favorite course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 22, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Good layout, requiring a mix of backhand and forehand shots.
- Mostly open and long, allowing for big tee shots and long but fairly easy approaches.
- Because of the jogging trail along the bayou, this course stays better maintained than the North course.
- There's not a ton of water, but it does play a strong factor on holes 3 and 7, forcing a player to think a little more about placement.
- Hole 13 crosses the bayou and is an enjoyable, aesthetic, not too difficult hole.

Cons:

- Like the North course, tees and holes are poorly marked. Stakes are used and can be easily moved or taken, causing confusion for a first time player. Refer to the course map in the links tab for accurate tee placement.
- This course may be too open, with too few trees in play to force players to but finesse on their shots.

Other Thoughts:

Generally, I think this course is nicer than the North course. I find it easier because of it's openness, yet the length of the course can add strokes.

The two courses together can make for an enjoyable day of disc golfing, just prepare with enough water, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent.

Would be amazing if it were better marked 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 26, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Long but wide open. You can blast it out there.

Cons:

Not a freakin tee sign or directional arrow or any numbers in the baskets. Come on man!

Other Thoughts:

I'd play it again but seriously if theres a local club that can put up some signage this course MAY live up to its ranking. Right now it's just ok.

Pros:

Great hole variation and length,
Makes placement of tee shot count as many par fours are dependent on upshot location
Fair basket placement and good visibility

Cons:

When not mowed can be frustrating to find discs

Now we're talkin 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 8, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Build on an old Golf Course, so it has some nice terrain variation, drains fairly well.
-Pairs with White Oak North for a FULL day.
-Pin Placements are excellent. Well designed and look like someone took the time to figure out the best lines.
-Great local community that embraces the sport and is very glad to see the land being used in a positive manner.

I see this complex becoming THE premier DG destination in Houston. No questions.

Cons:

-The Baskets themselves are ....ok.

-Dogs tied to chains in surrounding backyards that bark...a lot. can be distracting when lining up a shot

Other Thoughts:

Personally, I love White Oak. If you see my review for North, I am overjoyed that there is a legit complex less than 20 minutes from my house. I love being on an old Golf Course, even if the pitfalls do exist such as nasty water and hard pin placements near said water which might threaten my favorite plastic. Plays in about 2.5 hours. Best course in Houston ATM
