I Found 6 Baskets. Is that Good?

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 7, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Veterans Memorial at the park is well done and worth visiting.

At least 6 baskets (and possibly up to 8, based on other reviews). The ones I found and actually walked to (see cons) were decent DGA models.

A place where someone with good waterproof boots could practice all kinds of throws and practice looking for discs in high grass.

A place where someone who lives nearby could practice putting.

A good place to throw with baskets that would probably never be crowded.

Cons:

No signage (ok, no accurate signage. I saw one sign for a hole that I don't think is there).

No tee pads or markings for tee pads or directions to tee pads or evidence of former tee pads or rumors about the existence of tee pads.

Extremely high grass in most places throughout the property, including around a basket that has the number 4 on it. It's the highest grass I have ever seen around a basket. The basket has disappeared into it like Homer Simpson backing into a hedge.

I don't know how the weather usually is and how the property reacts to rain, but today most of the place was just a marsh, a bog, wetlands that may or may not be protected by anything, just wet land. Land that is very wet. Mudville, USA.

Other Thoughts:

This course was 0.2 miles from the motel where I was staying. I read the previous reviews and went and tried it out anyway because I like seeing new places and throwing discs in those places. Don't stop if you are driving by, speed up.

If you live there, maybe the fact that the parks dept. dedicated some space to disc golf could mean there is hope for improvements.

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 3, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

The open holes 1-4 smell like a mint field. Has 9 baskets that our all in decent to pretty good shape!!! Has some holes that allow you to throw your drivers, and practice forehand or backhand. Has plenty of room for a good course, baskets are numbered...and that's where the pros end

Cons:

This to me isn't really even a course. Pretty much no markings or tee pads anywhere. The one sign left in the ground says hole 3 225 feet but when playing from it it's around 350. Have to use a u disc map to locate " tee areas" or printed map but there will be zero indication where they're at it's pretty much safari. Holes 1-4 are in the open part of park 1s basket basically has a tree growing on it and 1-3 only challenge can be the wind. Don't get me started with holes 5-8 they play on the back half of the course in what is an overgrown pile of crud. Smell is awful holes our even worse. Tumbleweeds and little things that stick all over you and your clothes. Hole 8 is borderline unplayable do to blackberry bushes surrounding it that our bigger than a human

Other Thoughts:

It's sad to see what could be here. I've played a few tourneys here with a modified course and the potential here is amazing. They could create a real course and a good 9 or even more at that. However these baskets our just sitting to rot as this maybe gets played once a year. Until a course redisign is done I won't be back I feel 1 Star is fitting just because of the nice 9 baskets

Lousy 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 15, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-There are about 5 baskets in the park that I could find
-Acceptable place for casual practice

Cons:

-Couldn't find the other 4 baskets
-No elevation change
-No signage (ok I saw one sign at one of the 'tee pads' but it didn't help)
-No tee pads and no clue where to throw from
-Dog walkers

Other Thoughts:

As you enter the park and walk towards the toys, you'll see a large field with 5 baskets tucked out near the edge of the field. And there's your course.
Sounds like there might be other baskets hidden away in overgrown blackberry bushes or something, but I sure didn't see them.. and it was probably for the better.
I can see this being a place to practice tossing some new discs or for a family to play a short round of golf, but it's just hard for me to consider this a permanent disc golf course.. or a course period.

Great Canvas but needs love 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 7, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Open, short holes, great for casual and beginner players. Easy parking. Holes 1-4 & 9 are easily playable.

Cons:

Holes 5-7 are in tall grass that needs to be mowed. Hole 8 has a bum camp in it and the basket is destroyed.

No teepads. No signage. Must use app like UDisc to figure out where pads are.

Other Thoughts:

Needs some love. I know some local players that are interested in improving the course and hope they are allowed to do so.

Impossible to play 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 19, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Easy location to get to course and is located in a mowed city park.

Cons:

The baskets are there but no teepads so you don't know where to teeoff from. This course needs help...

Other Thoughts:

Might be a fun course if you can find someone that knows the course.

The potential is there 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 7, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice green grass
-Baskets to throw at
-Set in a nice city park

Cons:

-Soupy when wet
-No tee pads
-Minimal tee signs
-Not much variety

Other Thoughts:

I found 5 baskets when I went to play this course. There were a few tee signs telling you where to throw. That was it otherwise. Not sure why they decided to spend money on this park if they were just going to let it go like it has. Hopefully someone will step up and take this course under their wing.

What??? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 8, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

In a nice park setting

Cons:

-Poor signage
-Impossible to properly navigate
-basket 8 had been vandalized
-you can see nearly every basket from one position in the middle of the course
-just a big field with a basket here and there
-you have to walk into brush, only to throw out of the brush
-waste of time and space

Other Thoughts:

This course is good for practice shots and that's where I would draw the line. We couldn't even find tee 1. I would suggest not wasting your time on a stop here, unless you're there anyway due to a child/sibling having a baseball game or something

Timber Linn 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 10, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Timber Linn is mostly open with some trees/bushes. It plays through a city park, There is a pond and a creek near the course but the water doesn't come into play.

I went in early may and we had the whole place to ourselves except for a few fisherman.
I had a good time playing it.

Cons:

My primary reason for writing this review is to let people know that the course has been vandalized.

2 of the baskets are unplayable (and since it is a 9 hole course with 9 alternate tees its like 4 of the baskets were vandalized as far as playing a round). The lower half of one basket was detached from the pole and sitting on the ground. Another basket was bent and mangled so that a disc could only enter from one side.

Judging from the trash, it looked like there are homeless people living back behind the course who probably don't want golfers back there.

This course needs a lot of work. Tee signs were laminated paper on stakes in the ground (the ones that were there anyway). The listed distances was usually wrong. (Luckily we had printed a map) No tee pads. Standing water/poor drainage on the course (though that is common in oregon). My socks/shoes were very wet and muddy by the end.

Other Thoughts:

I still had a good time. It was one of the few courses in the area I hadn't played yet but I wouldn't recommend playing it in its current state. Bryant park is only a couple miles away.

If you do decide to play it make sure you print out the course map. The primary nine tees are poorly marked and the back 9 alternate tees you will not find without the map.

If you are not from the area take the time to drive the extra 15 mins and play Willamette or Adair.

Pros:

Timber Linn is a wide open beginner friendly course with a couple of nice drives and not much else that's really worth mentioning. Baskets are good, lots of parking and very easy to find, if you are looking to practice on open holes well here you go.

Cons:

Little to no challenge and even less fun, there just isn't enough of anything about this place to make me want to come back and play it. It wasn't even easy to navigate!

Other Thoughts:

If you have a new midrange disc or something and you want to test it out in an open field with a basket than this is the place for you. I can't recommend this place, in fact I would say it is almost a waste of time.

Finding the first tee 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 2, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Super open course - definitely designed with the beginner in mind. But with the only other course in Albany flooded all winter, I can get out there and play a round during lunch no problem

Cons:

The course is a little tricky to get around if you don't know where you're going. Most of the tee's are fairly close but there is nothing helping you get from basket to the next tee.

Other Thoughts:

To clear up a few things on the review by Valkyrie Kid. The Tennis courts were torn out to put in the Veteren's Memorial. I know it's true I've lived in Albany for 25 years. Hole #7 tee is not in the middle of the swamp area, although there was a tee marker out there, it was an extra there is still a #7 tee marker and when I was there 2/2/09 and they took out the one in the swamp area last summer and it's in the right spot. Make sure before you go to glance at a map and you should be just fine

It Shouldn't Be This Confusing??? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Timber Linn is a vast sprawling, flat park. It's two long tee offs from I-5, extremely easy to find. There's lots of room here. There are nine tee signs. There is lots of big wide fairways to throw big air with little chance of OB or lost discs. The baskets are fine baskets.

Cons:

The course info said the first tee was right next to the tennis courts. Now I'm rather sure I know what a &^%(%$# tennis court looks like and I sure as hell didn't see any concrete area with lines painted on it and a net in the middle with a big fence surrounding it. I finally found the first tee nice nestled in between a new Veterans Memorial being constructed and a baseball field. And NO, I don't think the Veteran's Memorial is being built where the tennis courts used to be.

The first hole is a rather basic 300 straight forward hole. The tee sign is facing right at the hole. When I get to # 2, I look all over for the basket which is suposed to be 275" straightaway. Can't find it. Finally figure it out. This tee sign sits perpendicular or whatever the math term is and doesn't look straight at the hole like # 1 did. So on this big wide open course which should be a breeze to follow, is not easy to navigate. I finally get the hang of it. Most of the tee signs are fairly close to the previous basket (as well they should be). Later I finish # 6 and look around for tee sign # 7. I finally wander around and find it stuck out in the middle of this swampy, marshy area 150 yards from basket # 6. Is this a joke? Have the midnight teens struck again? But I think these skinny little teepad poles, at least, have a concrete base of some kind. It wouldv'e take some really motivated midnight course molesters to pull this one off!

Other Thoughts:

Mostly, I found this course boring, confusing and in need of a little TLC. The park is so easy to find, but finding the first tee by the phantom tennis courts was a pain. Standing by a sign and throwing 400' to a basket sitting in the middle of an open field is not my idea of fun. I can't recommend it even though it right off I-5. Drive 25 miles further north and play Gateway in Salem. It's right off the freeway also.
