Fun start with dull ending 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

*Challenging first 4 holes, as water is a factor
*Good distance on several holes and a few shorter holes
*Laid out fairly well, first 4 holes are good, last 5 are ok
*Rough isn't too overgrown, so retrieving errant shots isn't overly difficult, especially after the first 4 holes
*Hill on first 4 holes can create some interesting rolls

Cons:

*Basket on #5 missing
*Tee boxes not well marked on #6, #8, and #9
*No garbage cans that I recall
*Would have been lost after #4 if I hadn't read a note that #5 was uphill from it, so missing signage here is big negative
*Holes 5 - 9 are just long holes for the most part, so not much difficulty with them

Other Thoughts:

*For those who like water on a course, you can't beat the first 4 holes, especially #4 which got one of my discs
*My review ignores the fact that #5 is missing, so with or without 5, I would review the same
*Full and fair disclosure: I finished my round just after sun down, so finding tee boxes on the last few tees maybe easier in the full daylight

Meh... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 26, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

A very well maintained course with beautiful scenery that would challenge new and experienced players alike. Good baskets, cleverly planned shots.

Cons:

Low quality, poorly marked, difficult to find tee pads,
lots of water hazards to the left, and long prairie grass to the right can make for a frustrating and time consuming first few holes.
No signage directing players to the final 5 holes.

Other Thoughts:

Got lost after hole 4, could not finish this course.

Worth a try... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 10, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The first 4 holes are fantastic (much like the other review states) are exactly what a disc golf course should be. Great use of elevation, water, groomed fairways presenting opportunities for you to "man-up" and go for it without fear of consequences of an errant throw.

Cons:

The last 5 holes were a bit too open for my liking. If you are new to the sport and looking to up your skills and not lose any discs, stick to holes 5-9.

Other Thoughts:

The college campus can be busy so be careful to watch for students out and about.

Tale of Two Courses 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 3, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great baskets
Tees are marked
Very well maintained
Water comes into play on the front 4
Great use of elevation

Cons:

Dirt tees
Holes 5-9 are very dull compared to 1-4
Confusing trek from 4 to 5
Very long hike back to the car from 9
Lots of kids to avoid while playing the front 4

Other Thoughts:

If you were to imagine what a perfect, sparsely wood course would be like you couldn't do much better than the front four holes at Carleton. They have it all: blind drives, rolling hills, water coming into play on all four, decent length, mown fairways, the list could go on. For this reason the final 5 holes are such a let down. You finish hole four (the best on the course) and then begin to wander up the hill looking for #5 and when you do find it... well it's a let down. Open, boring, everything that's bad about sparsely wood holes. There are woods lining 6-8 but they never really threaten your drive. The wind could certainly come into play on the finial five, but beyond that, one blind pin, and distance there really isn't anything special about the top. Once you hole out on 9 your second trek begins back to your car. At least this time walk back though the perfect little park were you started.
