2nd 9 is installed with Prodigy baskets. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 9, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The 2nd nine has been installed with Prodigy baskets. This 9 is more challenging then the front nine with longer and more elevation change. Beautiful holes with great views.

Cons:

A long walk from 18 basket to parking area by start of course.

Other Thoughts:

A very nice course at San Juan College, The college plans on another 9 expansion to make it a 27 basket course. The front nine tee boxes have been redone to all natural with no wood boundries. All distances have been added to signs.

Nine Holes in the Hills 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 3, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

This new nine-hole course is built on a rolling hillside covered with junipers and desert brush. The trees are short (10 - 15') but a will grab any disc that touches them. They have thick branches to the ground so getting out of them will take some creative shots.

Interesting variation in hole lengths. The first four holes are quite short, but the remainder get longer and longer. Holes 7, 8. and 9 are the longest on the course and very challenging.

The sandstone hillside offers a good bit of elevation for the holes and some swales to throw across. If you don't clear the swale or roll back down you'll be in some of the thickest trees on the course.

The new baskets show up well, with large number plates on the top. The hidden baskets also have extension poles on top with flagging tape making them easier to find.

Stone outlined paths make navigation from hole-to-hole easy and straightforward.

Cons:

The biggest issue I have with this course is the tee pads. They would have been better off with natural tees, but they constructed 2x4 frames on the ground and filled them with sandbox sand. The sand doesn't pack down and makes footing extremely loose. The sand is deep enough to upset balance as you throw.

The baskets are an inexpensive single chain model that catches ok but does allow some blow-throughs. They all seem to be mounted 6" - 12" high.

The tee signs have only hole number and a panel to sign if you hit an ace. It would be helpful to at least have hole length.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice addition to the college campus, and they apparently have plans to add an additional nine holes in the future. With proper tee pads and a little better signage, this would be a pretty solid course.
