Beautiful Little Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 18, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful. The course is in a very nice location (beyond the first 3 holes).

Variety. Each hole offered something a little different, from wide open, downhill through trees, short treed holes, long dogleg, and of course...

Hole 7. A beautiful, "true" island hole, you'd better have some confidence in your drive or you'll be swimming (watch out for the alligator).

Fun. I quite enjoyed playing this quick 9 holes, was rather impressed by it as I wasn't expecting much. It would be a fun course for nearly anybody, beginner friendly - though I would probably have my beginner friends skip hole 7.

No crowds. I suppose there's kids from the nearby school that play, but I never saw anybody playing on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon.

Cons:

School Activities. I felt a bit awkward walking around a school property with football practice going on, nobody said anything to me, just waved, I don't know how common it is that they see random people playing the course.

Navigation. I think I eventually figured out the layout of the entire course, a bit difficult to follow (I suppose there may be a map if you ask at the school). The grass tees are only marked by cement squares at the front, there are arrows on the bottom of the basket pointing the way to the next tee. Hole 4 is at the top of the hill, Hole 5 goes along the left of the lake, 6 goes back towards the lake, 7 is the island hole, 8 is a dogleg along the right side of the lake from the island, and 9 returns.

A bit cramped. Holes 4-9 were packed into a relatively small area, though it flowed fairly well and had decent length.

Other Thoughts:

I swear there was an alligator in the lake, I didn't see it but the churning in the water was very reminiscent of kayaking the bayou.

Very nice little course, worth a slight detour if you're in the area, but I wouldn't make a trip specifically to come here.
