9 Short Baskets in an Open Field - For What it is It's Good! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Newer baskets still in very good shape.
- Large, accurate course map at beginning.
- Rock and cement bar to mark tee pads, looks nice but not sure it's the most functional.
- Clean, open park that had some rec users while I was there both times I was there, but public interference isn't really a problem I don't imagine.
- Easy, free parking nearby.

Cons:

- Other than a random tree and shrub or two, this is basically 9 short holes in the middle of a wide open flat, grassy area where every hole is an ace run for intermediate to advanced players.
- I like the look of the tee indicators, but no pad per say and the concrete strip they put in looks nice but I think will turn into a stubbing/tripping hazard as the dirt ground gets beat down in front of it. Never seen this approach before for tees.
- No individual tee signs.

Other Thoughts:

- It feels a bit unfair to give this a 1.5 because it seems like a criticism, but it's not. The course is just 9 baskets in an open field and it's hard to justify giving it a higher rating than that. Course designers took all the space they were afforded I'm sure and they did as much as they could with the space. I'm glad they put a course in!

- You can easily make up alternative layouts and there's the space to create your own long holes, which is nice, but this is not a course to go out of your way to play. If you're staying in town it's fantastic to have a little course to quickly throw, but don't add this to your BC bucket list.

Meh. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 12, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

9 hole course located in Lakers Park in Vernon, BC.

Very nice Discatcher baskets, all mounted well and caught like they should. One pin position per hole.

Big rocks as hole markers, which was a little tough at first, but you figure it out easily enough. Navigation wasn't overly intuitive, but being a shorter course, it was mostly easy.

Plenty of ace runs, if that gets your heart pumping.

A few holes with some decent use of obstacles. Some trees in the back portion to contend with, but nothing over the top. Wind can also be a factor here.

Cons:

The brushy rough can hide discs, even if you know exactly where you landed. Keep your eyes peeled. It feels pretty scruffy, for the most part.

It's just a short course. There's a bit more space that looks like it could have been utilized, but it felt like other activities take precedence here.

Other Thoughts:

It's 9 baskets to throw at...and sometimes that's enough. It has a nice scenic backdrop with the huge hills all around. I'd also imagine it's hardly used, judging by the location...it's kind of on the edge of town.

With several other sporting type activities nearby, you could do worse than dropping off the kids and going to spin a round or two here.

Pitch and Putt 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 27, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

If you live or are visiting Vernon, you have somewhere to sling your lids! This 9 hole, basketed course is built on an old Par 3 ball golf course and is nicely groomed. After a short search we were able to find the concrete hole markers and navigate easily from there. Tee pads are natural and the course plays in a convenient circle to and from the parking lot.

Cons:

The course is quite short, flat and mostly wide open. Advanced players would score well with putters alone.

Other Thoughts:

There is additional room in the park to make several of the holes more challenging, bringing water and brush into play. If I were local, I would definitely have a 'back 9' going.
This course would not classify as a destination for most, but serves the purpose for players in town or passing through.
