Pros:

- good quality baskets
- good signage
- easy navigation
- decent amount of elevation change
- good course to practice your short game and for beginners

Cons:

- mostly all sagebrush offer little technicality to the shots
- the longest hole on the course is around 300 feet, and mostly around 250, definitely a short course
- lots of sagebrush and rocks to hide your discs
- it's also rough terrain for your discs as well as for people

Other Thoughts:

Fun little course for your short game. Playing this course alone could be a little rough if you start having to look.

Pros:

It's a nice little 9 hole course with decent navigation. Plays up past the soccer fields which can get crowded for soccer games. However plenty of parking. The course itself is pretty small and you really only need a midrange and putter on most holes. Tee signs were in good shape showing distances.

Cons:

Can get very windy as it plays next to a main freeway, and is fairly wide open. Not many holes to really throw bombs and I would say good family course but the terrain is pretty rough. Lots of sage brush slash rocks on course.

Other Thoughts:

This course literally falls under that decent/typical category it's good for a quick nine/ lunch break round. If you're looking for a fast play it does the job the main obstacle is the wind and it's a good course to teach you how to play in the wind. However not the most scenic course or variety type course pretty bland but not the worse all baskets pads and signs our intact and besides the sage brush shouldn't have to look for any disc

Good for what it is. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 25, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Great baskets
- Large teepads
- Decent signage
- Course map at Hole 1
- Easy navigation
- Tons of parking
- Elevation shots (nothing too crazy)
- Beginner friendly
- Great short game practice (for more advanced)
- Can be challenging in wind
- Water can come into play if creek is flowing
- Good throws can be punished if you overshoot

Cons:

- Short
- Teepads can get puddles
- Thorny bushes in some parts
- Easy to lose a disc for such a short 9 hole
- Boulders all over, sometimes completely surrounding a basket
- Very little trees/obstacles
- Minimal toilet facilities
- No trashcans on course

Other Thoughts:

Like I said, it's good for what it is: an open 9 hole that meanders through a big ravine. Holes 2, 3, 4, and 5 play along/through the ravine. Holes 1, 6, 7, 8, and 9 all play towards or over the ravine. It offers some fun little elevation shots, and if you have some decent form, every hole is an ace run.
It can get like a wind tunnel here sometimes, and that completely changes this course. I like to say that it's the only course I know of where you can bogey a wide open, slightly downhill 210 foot hole. I really like that the course will punish you if you miss that basket by mere inches. If you throw a putt that sails past target, down the ravine you go. You will have a nice steep come-backer for par. Another tricky thing: when you are down in the ravine and putting back to the basket, the wind may seem calm where you're putting from, but the moment it gets to basket elevation, the wind is howling. The wind will get you out here if you don't putt HARD.
The navigation is super straightforward, and every basket is visible from the tee. They tried to put green stakes in the ground to indicate paths to the next tee. Many are gone, but you can usually spot one to send you in the right direction.
The rocks get pretty ridiculous here. I wouldn't use a baseline plastic putter here if you like it. Discs get absolutely chewed up here. I also recommend sturdy shoes, because you will be walking on rocks for a few moments. One reason there are so many rocks in parts is because you play along a creek bed for much of the course. If it has been raining, the creek can flow pretty well. It's nothing too wild, but if it's flowing pretty well a disc might get carried away in some parts.
It's too bad there's only two holes with some obstacles: Hole 4 and 5 have a couple trees which aren't difficult to navigate. Oh well, this course (for me) is all about practicing awkward footing, windy putts, and very precise distance control. It's easy for people to hate on this course and I get it: it's a short 9 hole with no obstacles. The funny thing is I've seen people try out this course from other "better" courses in the area, and they will tank. It can be sneaky tricky, and some people hate the fact they bogeyed a wide open 200 footer. That's the Wedge for you, a rugged, windy 9 hole.
Oh yeah, and the view of Mt. Rose is awesome.

Fun Little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 1, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

They have done a tremendous job of cleaning up the park and it's now more enjoyable to play. I Love love it being on the south end of town which is a lot more convenient. This is a great place to throw if your a beginner to intermediate player and if your skill level is above that, it's a great course to focus on putt and approach.

Cons:

It's a bit on the shorter side and doesnt allow for the use of any Big Boy Discs. I can easily take one disc, my Buzzz, and shoot under par.Thats about it guys.

Other Thoughts:

My 8 year old, Izabelle, loves it. She shot her first "true" par there and you would have thought she'd won the lottery. Love those moments.

It rough, not sure about the diamond? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 6, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The South Valley Regional Sports Complex is a large park situated between Wedge Parkway and the 395 freeway. The complex features two picnic pavilions, a lighted Little League four-plex, three soccer fields, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, volleyball courts, and restrooms. And off to one side in a very rough corner they have added a disc golf course. This new 9 hole course on the south side of Reno is more beginner and recreational player friendly than most of the other courses in the area that play as long bombers. This course will hopefully bring newer players to the game.

There are 9 new Innova Disccatchers and Reno Disc Golf is working on the tee pads and signs. When I was there in early august they had framed all the tees but only a few had gravel laid. I don't know if they intend to leave it crushed gravel or eventually add a rubber mat like they have for most of their courses, but RDG does a good job with amenities.

The course is all par 3 with most of the holes being under 400 feet, which is good as most of the other courses in Reno are designed for the tournament level player. Good chance for aces for more advanced players.

Cons:

The terrain for this course is really rough. The course is designed in a drainage area along the freeway and is very rocky and it's tough to get footing. The course is in the Nevada desert so it's very scrub brushy, rocky, and sandy. It's also the ugliest part of the park, the rest of the park is grass and groomed, with paved parking lots: the course is straight scrub with a gravel parking lot tucked to the side and back.

It's short and designed for the beginner/rec player. I know I listed that as a pro, and for the Reno area it is a pro, but for the course as a standalone it's not.

Most holes play flat, straight, and open. Despite the fact that you are going to be walking quite a bit of elevation here the course itself has very little. You play over hills and dales and walk up to tees but the tees and baskets are all located at about the same level, no real downhill or uphill throws, unless of course you get in trouble then you might have an uphill or downhill recovery. There is some slight elevation change on throws but not much.

There is no signage yet and navigation is a bit rough, I won't hold that against the course as I know it is being worked on by Reno Disc Golf. The course is very much in its infancy and will break in and improve as time goes on.

Other Thoughts:

This should fill a need in the Carson Valley for players as the other courses in the area are all north of Reno or south of Carson or way up at Tom's which is an adventure in itself. I do have to wonder if the very rough terrain here is going to limit the amount of exposure to beginners. This is a very hard course to walk around on, think hiking boots territory, and I wonder if too many people are going to brave that kind of terrain. Time will tell.

Update: So it looks like the tees will be getting rubber mats, also RDG has purchased 3 benches for the course and our cutting in trails for navigation, like I said before RDG is good with amenities.

All,
This review added while the course was still under construction. It does not reflect the current condition.

Significant trail work, cleanup, and brush clearing has taken place and is still in progress.

Temp signs on each hole. Rubber mats installed. Four benches installed on 1, 4, 7, and 9.
