Pros:
-If you decide to play here, make sure you go to the resort. Not the golf course. The resort itself is really nice. The staff is friendly. Food is served. That's the best thing I can say really.
-The baskets are DISCatcher Sports. Meaning that they are portable. But they are all there. Shows that locals are courteous by not stealing them because I've seen multiple situations on facebook where private course designers have had their DISCatcher Sports stolen. So for the people around here; yay for integrity!
-Has some good holes that'll satisfy you a good bit. And something about DISCatcher sports makes the whole course more unique. Holes 9-14 were all nice. I loved hole 16, It's a dead straight, almost like a gauntlet hole. 17 was really cool as well. It's a 252' keyhole shot through a 5' wide and 6' tall gap between pine trees.
-Scorecards are at the front desk. There is no charge to play anymore, that's pretty nice! There's also food but I already mentioned that.
-The golf course looks really fun! Wow. I'm really getting off topic here. At least give me some credit for thinking and digging a little deeper than I usually do! Just trying to stay positive here.
Cons:
-The woods. There are dead trees EVERYWHERE from holes 8-16. Hole 15 is completely unplayable as of now. A few giant trees fell. You could probably build a castle or two out of all the debris laying around there; if for some reason you lose your current home. Just get creative, stack some trees, and call a roofing company. Welcome to Paradise!
-The first four holes are miserable. They are wide open, rather short, and bland. They should've just designed one long hole instead of fit four crappy ones. Holes 1 and 2 go straight down a wide open field. #3 has you backtracking the fairway to get to the pad. #4 is another terrible filler. Holes 5 and 6 are both pretty good, but the next two holes are gimmicky. There is serious lost disc potential on hole 7. It's right next to a fence, and outside the fence is a pond. If you go a little bit right, you'll probably be wet or in the bushes outside of the pond, which are tough to see through. Hole 8 is inchoate and not fully carved.
-#18 is a danger to the mini golf course. There is a bush a bit too close behind the pad, so you can't have a full run up. So I shanked it a bit left and landed right smack dab on hole 10's carpet. I pulled a Happy Gilmore and had the craziest upshot from there; I saved a par.
-The busy road is too close to holes #3-5.
-Once I got to hole 12, I was like "It's getting pretty good!" I couldn't help but notice that there is a steep sloping hill just right of 12's fairway. It doesn't appear to be used. Just replace the first few holes and put some holes on that hill down there! That's an idea on how to make the course better.
Other Thoughts:
-I'm not by any means blaming anyone for the trees that fell on the back nine. I'm just stating a paradox. You should never play this course while winds are heavy, or in a thunderstorm. Trees are prone to fall. I wouldn't try to play hole #15 because there is no line to the basket anymore. It would be as hard as squeezing through a jail cell.
-Apple Mountain is unpredictable. I was ready to leave after hole 8, and then holes 9 and 10 renewed my faith. They were like water stations in a cross country marathon. Both are very nicely designed ace runs. I remained pleased when I got done with #14, I kept on running in that marathon and then I got to #15. That was like slipping and sliding down a steep and muddy hill, getting stomped on by the other runners, and landing face first into a big yellow jackets' nest. Ah the humiliation. Playing #16 was like my way of escaping the excruciating painful stings of pissed off yellow jackets with a spray of pyrethrum. The race ended with a face plant into a tree, and a disqualification because it "Knocked me off course."
-All jokes aside, if you play #5, #9-14, and then #16-17. You have yourself a great nine hole layout. Because those are all good holes. But I don't recommend this course aside from that, just play North Georgia Technical College and Rose Lane. You'll have more fun playing those courses.
