Disc Golf Tournament

<span class="bold"><span class="italic">Schedule and Format</span></span>

Saturday, January 17th 2015 at both Pa Davis and Heymann Parks.

Tournament central will be set up at Pa Davis. Registration will be held at Pa Davis and opens at 8:30 AM. A brief players meeting for all participants will be held at Pa Davis following the conclusion of registration and the first round will tee off at 10:00 AM.

All divisions will play the established tees except for novices and juniors who will play shorter "blue" tees on certain holes.

The field will be divided into two pools based on attendance. Pool A typically consists of Pro and Advanced players and Pool B is usually Ams, Novices and Juniors.

Pool A will play Heymann first round and Pa Davis second round.

Pool B will play Pa Davis first round and Heymann second round.

Tee time for the second round will be announced and posted at lunch along with the payout, once all of the first round score cards have been turned in.

An awards ceremony will be held at Pa Davis following the second round once the final scores have been tallied. All CTP prizes, awards, merchandise and cash won by players will be presented at the awards ceremony.

<span class="bold"><span class="italic">Extras</span></span>

CTPs will be out on the course, cash & merchandise. Gonna have some awfully special stuff for CTPs. So awful that it deserves its own post so "more info later" is all I'll say for now.

Vegas style Ace Pots for each course - $1 thru $5. Throw-off (if necessary) will be held while the scores are being tallied after the second round.

Novices and Juniors will receive a free disc.

Plaques/awards for the top finishers in all divisions will be presented.

<span class="bold"><span class="italic">Fundraising</span></span>

The Hannah for Abby Tournament being organized by the Flight Club will be the recipient of the funds raised by this year's Mid Winter Open.

This is copied directly from the Flight Club website and it lets you know who Hannah and Abby are and the reason the Lafayette disc golf community is committed to this cause...

<span class="italic"><span class="red">"Abby Mondy is a senior varsity softball player and fellow disc golfer that plans to attend the University of Southern Mississippi next year. She is severely allergic to peanuts and her allergy is so bad - she can't even be in the same room with someone who's eaten or touched them. One day, Abby came in close contact with a classmate who'd eaten trail mix during lunch causing her esophagus to close and restrict her breathing, sending her into anaphylactic shock, that's happened about five times this year.

Abby says she anxious about attending college because it'll be an uncontrolled environment without the help she used to with her coaches and school nurse. Fortunately, one of her former teachers told her family about a peanut detecting dog that can sniff out anything involving peanuts.

Hannah, the dog, is a German Shorthaired Pointer and needs to be specially-trained which costs around 15-thousand dollars. This particular resource will change Abby's life.

We are hosting this event to help cover the expense of the dog so that she can continue her education and sports safely."</span></span>

We will raise money two ways at the Mid Winter Open..

A 50/50 cash raffle with merchandise added - $2 per ticket or 3 for $5.

A reasonably priced, delicious lunch - $7 to fill your belly.

Kept the entry fees unbelievably low for this one so folks would surely have a few bucks left in their pockets to participate in the fundraising effort and I expect most players will favor this cause with their generosity. Abby is a wonderful young lady and is most deserving of our efforts.

<span class="bold"><span class="italic">Lunch</span></span>

I have no problem saying that Lafayette has set the bar pretty high for disc golf tournament lunches and they are almost always free to the players. We decided to sell lunch at this one for $7 (about the same as a fast food lunch) to add to the money raised for Abby this year just like we did for the Little Angels Foundation last year at the MWO.

So Comeaux and I were unusually indecisive when we were discussing what to cook for this tournament. You never know, we may just go out and kill something ourselves and cook it for everybody.

Rest assured, it will be good.

As always, kids 16 and under eat for FREE.
