I'm cross-posting this to Reddit and here in the hopes of getting some good info.
My son is 3 and he's obsessed with disc golf. We play regularly together (normal rules, full courses...) and he now has several discs of his own (in part because I don't want him hurting himself by always throwing my max weight discs). I didn't expect so much interest and perseverence, but it's awesome to be able to have fun together doing something we both enjoy at such a young age. We'll see how long it lasts.
I've been trying to figure out what the best lightweight discs for small kids are to help him have more success/fun. Here are some things I've tried:
150g DX Aviar: pretty good putter for my son. He can BH it about 15-20 feet and FH it maybe 50 ft.
155g Opto Ruby: not quite as much distance as the aviar, possibly because of the weight/plastic.
150g DX Wedge: OK, goes a bit further than the aviars, but doesn't glide much.
145g DX Teebird: too stable/heavy to get much more distance than the Wedge, but OK and pretty good for FH rollers
"Big Mini" 15cm 62g Buzz: actually pretty good, but my son hasn't really accepted the disc as a "real" disc because it's so small. He can throw it further than the above discs though.
And the big winner so far:
110g DX Leopard: this one immediately flew further than all the rest. His current record on flat ground is 40 of my walking steps (maybe around 100 feet!?). It's also the first disc he has started to choose angles with to get around obstacles, since he can get height on it and it doesn't just drop straight down at the end of its flight.
I have two main questions for you guys:
1. Does anyone know where I can find more 110g leopards? We already lost one and nobody seems to have them in stock anywhere in the world... US is fine, Europe is fine, any online shop would work.
2. Do you have any suggestions for other great kids discs I haven't tried? Ideally something very light weight but still "normal" disc.
Thanks in advance!
