I will be visiting New Orleans for Christmas from 22nd to 29th. I have most of the courses within an hour's drive on my wishlist. I would welcome any input on any "must play" courses or any courses to avoid. I prefer not to play courses that are hard to navigate.

Mostly I have tourist questions.

Does anyone know if there are any clubs with an open mic night? My daughter is hoping to find an open mic to do her stand up comedy routine. Welcome any info about any comedy clubs.

Also, are any of the New Orleans area casinos worth visiting or avoiding? Mostly interested in video poker and food.

How about the casino near Buccaneer State Park DGC or the casinos near Biloxi?

Would anyone recommend the Avery Island Tour or the nearby disc golf course?

Any recommendations on air boat tours? Extra points if they are near a disc golf course.

We are up for anything fun or unique.

Please send a PM if you want to meet up for disc golf and/or drinking!

Just saw this thread! Shoot me a FB msg next time and I'll see it quicker. I'm up in Baton Rouge with the family for the holidays.

While you're out and about in the French Quarter, try to in general stay south of Rampart. The CBD is up and coming with some cool bars and restaurants as well. My recommendations will stay in those 2 neighborhoods since they're the hot spot for tourism.

I'm not a huge fan of the courses in NOLA, Baton Rouge and Lafayette have better (NOTeam will probably excommunicate me for saying that but...it's true). I might be a little biased though since I was responsible for the DiscGolfPark in Baton Rouge. :D

Not sure about open mics, but the best live music is down on Frenchman St. It's more of a locals bar scene there. A couple months back we were out with a crew of DGA, Innova, and DiscGolfPark reps and had an awesome time. They also have pop up art markets on weekends.

Food recs:

- Mother's (go on off hours, peak times will have a line out the door and down the block). Homestyle food, no bad choices there.

- Cochon (touristy, famous, but good)

- SKIP Acme Oyster House, overrated. Try Felix's or Drago's instead.

- If you find yourself out on Bourbon St in need of some fried food - Willie's Chicken Shack is the best late night food in existence. The fried catfish is ridiculously good.

- Dat Dog. Hotdogs that will change your life.

Bar/Drink Recs:

- For the classy and authentically New Orleans cocktail - the Sazerac Bar at the Roosevelt (on Canal St.) - The Sazerac was invented there, and they make the best Ramos Gin Fizz.

- SoBou is another great spot for high quality mixology mixed with uniquely New Orleans flair.

- My favorite brewery in the state is NOLA brewing. Abita is the most famous, and most of their beers are good.

- On the far end of Bourbon there's Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop. It's one of the oldest surviving bars in the country. Low key vibe.

If your travels bring you up to Baton Rouge let me know, happy to show you the scene here. Happy Holidays!
