Spring Fling time is just around the corner and man do we have a real treat for y'all this year.

Our beloved Spring Fling is turning 18 and to properly mark the occasion, we are setting up not one, but two courses at the Horse Farm for your golfing pleasure.

When the park is finally built, we may or may not get to install a permanent course and I flat out guarantee that the area given to Disc Golf will be nowhere near the amount of the land we are using for this tournament.

The result is that this may truly be your ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to play golf on this property in this way.

With information & pictures of the courses coming later, let's talk about the tournament..

Schedule and Format

Saturday, April 30th 2016 at the HORSE FARM.

Walk up registration opens at 8:30 AM at tournament central.

An excruciatingly long, mandatory players meeting for all participants will be held following the conclusion of registration and the first round will tee off at approximately 10:00 AM.

All divisions will play the same tees. Novices and juniors may play shorter "blue" tees on certain holes.

The field will be divided into two pools based on attendance with Pool A typically consisting of Pro and Advanced players and Pool B consisting of Ams, Novices and Juniors.

Pool A will play one course the first round and the other course the second round.

Pool B will do the same, opposite of Pool A.

Tee time for the second round will be announced and posted at lunch along with the payout, once all of the first round score cards have been turned in.

An awards ceremony will be held at tournament central following the second round once the final scores have been tallied. All CTP prizes, awards, merchandise and cash won by players will be presented at the awards ceremony.

*We will set up some type of Disc Golf signage on Doucet Rd across from the entrance to Red's Fitness to mark the location*

*Tournament Central will be across the large grass field in front of the parking lot*

Whats the average distance on the holes. I 'm a noob that stays in Baton Rouge. Ijust started playing about a month ago.Thinking about coming check it out. maybe playing novice. What are the requirements? . Thanks in advance.

Keep in mind that these are two 18 hole temp courses on property that is soon to be developed as Lafayette's new Central Park. We are holding the tournament there as a "last chance" to play golf on it before major construction work begins.

Both courses will be set up early in the morning before the tournament starts if you wish to preview or practice either. Because of the terms of the rental agreement and the insurance policy, this is a one day deal so unfortunately, no Friday practice round.

Baskets will be a mix of available, local baskets loaned by our players. Nothing will be of lower quality than a DiscCatcher Sport metal practice basket - no cloth and no junk to have to putt on.

Course Maps

The Front Course

Longer, open grassland course. Shot shaping is maximized by the use of every available tree & obstacle. Shot selection is emphasized by the thick rough and deep canal on many holes.

The Back Course

Shorter, tight woodland course. Accuracy is required with many reachable birdies that can turn in to bogies with a bad shot off the tee. Balance is provided by some shots in the open that invite you to really air it out.

Registration

Walk-ups are certainly welcome Saturday morning and online registration is also available on Disc Golf United if you want to skip the line on Saturday.

Ground Level

Here are some ground level photos from the property, taken at the planned tee box positions. Overhead maps never really tell the tale of what a course looks like when you are playing it. A few of them show a pitiful attempt by yours truly to photoshop a basket into the image.

@Jules B - If you come over to Lafayette and play Novice/Rec, keep in mind that we will have shorter tees set up on some of the holes that are potential "disc eaters" for new players. This cuts down on the amount of plastic lost and aids in the tournament's flow of play. Also, recreational and junior divisions are a "trophy only" competition as you will receive more than your entry fee back in prizes at sign up.

The first 150 players (all divisions) get a tournament stamped Roc3 and a shirt.

In addition, recreational and junior players get a $15 merchandise voucher for another disc of their choosing from Geaux Throw, a local vendor who will be set up on site.

So for $20, you get two discs, a shirt, two rounds of golf and a chance to win a trophy - not a bad deal at all.
