Pros:
Buhl Park, not Buhl Park DGC, but Buhl park itself is completely gorgeous. Beautifully manicured with a lot to look at. The park rangers work really hard to keep this place in exceptional shape.
The disc golf course utilizes the mostly open nature of the park, sprinkling in the few mature trees on the property to create line-shaping opportunities. For the holes that utilized the trees, there was a good variety in the lines that needed to be hit.
Every hole in the course had a multitude of pin location, creating different distances and greens that change the outlook for the local players almost every time they play. Some of the pin positions looked especially interesting, and I hope the next time I play I can get a better idea of the design.
Every hole has three concrete tees of adequate length, and while the day I played in the tournament, there were no tee signs, from local knowledge, tee signs with map and a pindicator will be put in within the coming months, which will be a huge improvement.
Cons:
About 1/3 of the holes play with little to know impact with trees. The only challenge on these holes will be the wind, distance, and a possible OB path/road. These holes provided very little challenge and no real scoring separation.
Speaking of the OB paths and roads, there are a multitude of holes that have the walking path that winds through the park in play. On a beautiful May Saturday morning, our card waited a few times for walkers that were enjoying the park. Please be mindful of park visitors!
Little to no elevation was in play for most of the holes. This park is surprisingly flat for what is a hilly state, but elevation does not come into play very often.
Certain holes qualified as tweener distance in my eyes, either too long par threes, or too short par fours, this again can impact scoring separation, and can also make for boring pars or birdies.
Other Thoughts:
This course is a beautiful representation of park golf. Beautiful fairways, mature trees, and immaculate conditions. There are a few tweaks that could be made, but all in all, this course uses everything within it's premises to use. I would recommend it to anyone passing through!
