Part Excellent, Part Boring 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 10, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

A very solid intermediate-level course with good variety.

-Amenities: Concrete tees, solid baskets, tee signs with map, some next tee indicators. All the basics you expect.

-Variety: A pretty nice variety of terrain. There isn't much elevation, but the course plays everything from wide open to tight woods, with some in between and a lot of shots moving from open to woods or vice-versa.

-Multi-Shot Holes: Most courses with the vibe of Camp Jordan tend to disregard having more than a couple par-4s, but Camp Jordan has seven par-4s and one par-5, coming in at over 8000'. It's a refreshing mix that makes Camp Jordan feel more complete.

-Shot Shaping/Gameplay: Laid out like a championship challenge, but at intermediate-level difficulty. By this I mean that there is a variety of shots and placements to be made, but the margin for error is generous enough to be attackable by non-advanced players. There are some very open holes to bomb on, but quite a few holes that use wood lanes or lines to create a fairway. Some of the par-4s are creative, and will need a plan of attack with landing zone to have an open look. The river is a major factor for a stretch on the front nine, and (12). A couple of ace runs are in the mix to make it less grueling. I found much of the course 4.0 level, with a lot 3.5 and some boring holes dragging it down.

Cons:

-Openness: What really holds Camp Jordan back. A lot of holes (I would say at least 8) are basically open field shots with only minimal obstacles. Consider (10), the par-5, which I think has one tree about 30' right of the basket on its entire fairway, using a telephone pole mando to try to be fun. I suppose it's challenging for most intermediate players to drive that far, but it's not very interesting.

-Drainage: I had heard of drainage issues, and can verify. The worst by far is (1), which is a swamp through the tight woods tunnel off the tee, but other holes were a touch marshy as well, at least nearer the river.

-Some Rough: Not throughout the course, but in parts the rough is thick and very punishing. (1) and (13)-(15) come most to mind. Also worth noting under this con that the river could easily claim ricocheted plastic.

-Beginners: The course is too long to truly be enjoyable for beginners. Also, rec-level players with lower distance would also find Camp Jordan needlessly frustrating, and rightfully so. It's clearly not designed with shorter throwers in mind.

Other Thoughts:

I think Camp Jordan has gotten the short end of the stick from some reviewers. I found it to be very enjoyable, a well put together intermediate gauntlet with some really nice holes. Unfortunately, it is entirely appropriate to rag on it for too many open holes, and also to note that it has a limited skill-level appeal that excludes many casual players. I have it at the top end of my Good courses, and my personal favorite (though not highest-rated) in Chattanooga due to the terrain variety not found at the Sinks.

A few good holes 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 25, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

There are four to five good challenging and interesting holes on this course. The park is clean and in a nice area. The grass was mowed in the field areas.

Cons:

Too many holes that made no sense. Two of the holes were just there to get you across a very wide field. Many of the holes were wide open and the only challenge was extreme distance in excess of 800 feet.

Other Thoughts:

Played it, but would not go out of my way to play it again.

1,000 Foot Slalom 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 23, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

(3.097 Rating) A course that can challenge advanced level players.
- CHALLENGING - Due mostly to the length, this course is going to greatly challenge intermediate players to break par. Kind of a tweener between an intermediate and an advanced level course. Advanced players that can throw over 400 should have no problem being 3 or 4 down.
- UNIQUENESS - A few very interesting individual holes on this layout and overall I feel it has the greatest hole type diversity of the five Chattanooga area courses I've played. Several par 4s and one par 5. A great starting hole with an eight foot wide tunnel breaking out to an open field. Hole (10) is an interesting open 1,000 foot par 5 which has mandos that slalom around some utility poles. Hole (13) is a double dog leg par 4. In addition, water comes into play three times, there are some raised baskets and there's an improvised island hole. There are however a few too many completely open holes.
- DESIGN - I normally don't comment on design as its very subjective and it will vary greatly even among trusted reviewers, but here goes. The site that this course graces is exceedingly bland. It sits in the flood plain of the Chickamauga River fork and also has vast areas of open fields. However, every interesting nook and cranny on this site appears to have been used from checking Google Earth. The few woodsy areas are fully used. Some shots begin out of a shoot, some start open and barrel into a pocket. All the mounds, albeit man made, are used. The designer was wise to only glancingly bring the wide and swift Chickamauga creek into play, but there are a couple holes that bring into play mini Chickamauga tributaries that dice through a couple holes. I'm not the biggest fan of mandos or imposed land ob areas, but not doing so would have made this layout even worse. An average designer can take a wonderful site similar to the Sinks and make a great layout. It's another thing to take an awful site like Camp Jordan and make a good layout. Don't get me wrong, I do not have this course in my top 60 rankings (currently 221 courses as of this review), but a bad designer would have had this course outside my top 100. So well done Scott and Jake for making the best of what was available.
- SKILL LEVEL FRIENDLY - I think most beginners thru advanced players should be able to have a satisfactory round here, a rarity among courses with one set of tees. Low disc loss possibilities and a majority of the holes are very forgiving, good for beginners. Also good length to challenge advanced players.

Cons:

A flat mostly open site.
- DRAINAGE - I kept my feet dry, but tracked a bunch of mud. It doesn't take a genius to realize that a course on a flood plain with two converging creeks, won't drain well. I played Camp Jordan after two weeks without rain and I could still feel the sponginess in my steps on holes (1) thru (4). I highly recommend checking the monthly rainfall total before heading out to this course. Wet and muddy feet equals a bad disc golf experience.
- NAVIGATION - I figured it out, but not having an updated map on site is going to confuse every first timer without a guide. The map on DGCR is not accurate either. I would recommend checking out Lazrman778's notes on the review below. They were accurate as of Nov 2017.
- ELEVATION - I played five courses in my first Chattanooga sweep, and Camp Jordan is definitely the flattest. The man-made mound on (18) is really the only elevation that exceeds 10 feet. Of the courses I've hit in town, 9 On Top has the best elevation plays.
- CHARACTER - About average. The basics were done right, nice baskets and adequately sized concrete tees. There's an outdated course map and community board by tee (1), and there's adequate and descriptive hole signage. This course really needs a set of shorter tees for rec players. That would really boost the play out here. Also needs a few more benches. I only recall one or two on this 8,000 foot layout.
- RAW BEAUTY - About average or a touch below. Obviously way too many treeless areas. There are also some ditches in play and 99 percent of ditches don't add to a courses curb appeal. On the flipside, there are some really nice looking holes. Holes (4), (5) and (12) all have the Chickamauga creek running along the left side. Holes (6), (13), (14) and (15) are all nice looking woodsy holes.
- QUICK TO PLAY - At 8,000 feet this is not a quick play. This is one of the few courses that took me over 75 minutes to complete solo. Figure a group of four skilled players could be here 3 hours to complete a round.

Other Thoughts:

Of the 5 courses I've played in Chattanooga, Camp Jordan comes in at a far 2nd behind The Sinks. I did enjoy being able to bomb a few shots with-out worry but that play occurred too many times for my preference. The ratings for this course are all over the place, but I can see why due to the flooding, openness, challenge and length.

Camp Jordan DGC 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 19, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Has concrete tee pads

Has most tee signs

Has a good mix of open and wooded fairways with some doglegs

Has a good variety of pars

Has elevated baskets

Has some mandos throughout

Had the whole course to myself on a Wednesday afternoon

Free parking

Cons:

Tee signs could use some updating

Needs more next tee signs at some baskets

Mostly flat

Lots of mosquitoes at holes #4-6 - definitely wear some repellent before playing

Potential to lose a disc in the water at holes #4, 5, & 12

Walking path can interfere with play

Other Thoughts:

This is a good, challenging course that I played while in the Chattanooga area. This is a huge park so finding it can be challenging as well. I like that the course has some variety in pars, mix of open and wooded fairways, some mandos, and some elevated baskets though the course is mostly flat. The park seems to be popular with other parkgoers so delays are possible when playing near the path. The course navigation can be a little difficult as the posted map reflects the older layout so some next tee signs are necessary at some baskets.

From what I can summarize after the redesign:
1. Hole #7 tee doglegs right to the former location of hole #8 basket
2. New path for hole #8 is created
3. Hole #9 plays to a short island elevated basket (island is currently under construction at the time of this review)
4. Hole #10 is stretched and absorbs former hole #11 - creating a one hole offset for holes #12-19...which are now #11-18
5. Hole #17 is shifted towards the parking lot where its sunken basket is just across the road where a skip putt off the road is possible
6. Down the road from #17 basket is hole #18 tee with the two road signs serving as a double mando

It's an interesting layout that I recommend checking out if you're in the area.

Mando madness 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 3, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

If you enjoy throwing drivers and mid-ranges in open spaces, Camp Jordan might be a good option. Most of the holes are fairly open with few obstacles.

The first hole is an excellent starting hole. With a narrow gap off the tee before reaching an open field after 100 feet, your first throw will strongly influence whether you begin with a birdie or bogey.

Nice Chainstar baskets.

Cons:

Too many mandos. Unfortunately, most of the mandos at Camp Jordan are a result of poorly-designed holes. The mandos include random trees, utility poles and road signs. And Hole 9 is in the process of having a forced "island hex" built around the basket. Camp Jordan features many gimmicks, most of which diminish the course's appeal.

In fact, nearly half the holes at Camp Jordan have a mando sign on them - as if the local flea market had a closeout on such signage. On several holes, the mandos are completely unnecessary as there's no advantage to be gained by seeking an alternate line.

The forced redesign has resulted in several holes where the fairways are dirt fields filled with weeds. While the dirt fields may be temporary, Camp Jordan is currently one of the ugliest courses around. (I'm willing to edit my review if/when changes are made.)

Other Thoughts:

Rating this course as a 2.0 may seem harsh, but the quality of Camp Jordan takes an appalling hit on several of the redesigned holes, which are awful. Lazily-designed mandos, including utility poles, road signs and out-of-the-way trees is one definition of horrible disc golf.

Besides lacking in creativity, Camp Jordan offers very little diversity and no elevation changes (unless you trip and fall). Nearly half the holes on this course feel like "filler" holes, but there's no reward waiting at the end - just another terrible and pointless mando on the final hole.

Lots of potential 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 22, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Really well maintained park with baseball, soccer, football and a long walking tail. Like the rest of the park the course is fairly well maintained and looks recently mowed.

the baskets are chainstars, which are fine though not my favorite and a few are elevated which adds some interest. I like most of the holes, throwing in and out of the woods and avoiding some tricky mandos.

Would have liked to have played it when all of the holes were in.

Cons:

There is no elevation, and most of the water is the river which if you throw one in makes it unlikely to find it. The woods are used fairly well, but over never seen a course with so many mandos. It's kind of excessive.

Holes 8-12 are gone as well as 17-18. That was a bummer.

Other Thoughts:

Could be really cool when two other holes get put back in. Needs a summer haircut but has potential.

When you put the holes that are missing back, no more mandos please!

Needs Updating 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 31, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

If you like courses that have wide open holes and wooded ones as well, this meets those expectations. Hole one starts out with a narrow path through the trees into a wide open field, where the next 3 holes are also located. The only possible obstacles might be other park visitors walking around. There are wooden boardwalks to help navigate over possible wet conditions. Concrete tee pads are also in great condition. The course is also free to play, which is always nice. This course doesn't have a pro-shop, but less than a mile from the park entrance is a fireworks store which has a pretty decent selection of disc and other DG Gear. (Dixieland Fireworks)

Cons:

Navigating this course for the first time is very difficult. There is a sign at hole 1 with a map of the course, which I took a picture of with my phone, but even with that - I had to guess where the next hole started. I'm sure this is only temporary, but a large tree fell across the fairway on hole #5 (now removed). There is also some VERY thick brush along this course, which makes it very easy to loose a disc.

Update As Of 12/31/16. After I played this course the first time, I didn't think I'd be back. After I heard the rest of the 18 holes were back, I decided to check it out. What a regret! This course is in horrible condition. Wide open fields are so wet and muddy you'll need an extra pair of shoes to change into before you get in your car to drive home. I'm okay with the occasional mando here and there, but nearly every hole on this course has one! The signage at the tee pads are awful - and some don't even have any! The pin location at 17 is completely invisible from the tee pad. We decided to throw in the direction we thought the cage was and then found it set up in a drainage ditch on the other side of a service road with heavy standing water in it!

Other Thoughts:

This could be a much nicer course if more thought was put into the way it flows. Putting arrows on the baskets that point to the next hole or creating pathways that lead to them would really take out the need for second guessing. Being that Camp Jordan is such a big facility, finding the course for the first time was very difficult. I was there on a Thursday afternoon around 4:30pm and the main facility building wasn't even open. There were also no phone numbers listed to call. I saw no signage of where the course started and had to ask another park member for help. I'll eventually go back and try this course again, but in my opinion - there are nicer courses that aren't too far away. I don't understand why the course rating on here is so high.

I've talked to people in the past who have said Camp Jordan was one of their favorite courses to play. The property the course is on has a lot of potential - but the way it's designed now is a joke. The only way I'll play here again is if drastic improvements are made.

Half course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 3, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Might be a nice course when all the baskets are there. Challenging--very technical with some narrow alleys between trees with major penalties for missing the alley.

Cons:

Touted as being in Perfect condition, but almost half the course is at least temporarily non-existent. Hole 1-6 and 12-16 were playable, but then 7-11 and 17-19 did not exist and it's a considerable walk between the two sets of playable holes, and then again back to the parking lot with nothing to throw to. So that was disappointing. But I did go back the second day as I was in a hotel within a 5-min drive and the next nearest course was about half hour away.

Other Thoughts:

Would be nice if the course review was updated by the local club who obviously knows that the course in partially non-existent currently. I would not drive any distance to play this course until I could be assured that the entire course was back in functioning order.

Potential not yet realized 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 30, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Wooded holes - I thought some of the low ceiling tunnel shots on this course were a great use of the land they had. In particular I really enjoyed holes 4-7 (4 isn't that wooded but it was still a good hole). I also thought that hole 16 did a great job of giving you the choice of two different fairways.
Distance - Although it felt overused, I wish more intermediate/advanced courses put holes out longer than 450'. I appreciated that they did this, however, I think they could have reworked hole 10/12 and 18/19. It felt like two identical holes pretty close together both times.
Location/Maintenance - This felt like a very nice course. It felt very well taken care of and the scenery was beautiful. It was a little muddy but I actually don't have a problem with that (it might be a problem in heavy rain). The signs were helpful and the teepads/baskets were all good.
Elevation - I love elevated baskets (when used in moderation). I also enjoy a good downhill or uphill shot. I think the uphill shot (9 I believe) with an island green is one the best uses of space I have seen for a disc golf hole. It is so challenging yet rewards an ambitious throw if executed.

Cons:

Shot variety/Repetition - The shot variety on this course is what prevented me from rating this higher. 17,18,19 are all pretty much 450+ straight shots with no real obstacle. (800+, 450+ 500+). Hole 9, 10, 11, 12 were also pretty wide open but they had some elevation change. The only real "dogleg rights" were holes 15, and 16 and hole 15 was a 250' that rewarded a high FH shot or a thumber (rhfh). It seems like comments in the other reviews favored this course as a course with a lot of varieyt, but I just didn't see it.

Shared Park - There is always some amount of danger for bystanders on a shared park, there is also the potential for cross-traffic.

Potential - I think this course could use some tweaking and become a 4-4.5 star course. The property they have is really incredible. But there were way too many times that I had to throw a 200-375 shot either straight through an open field or a small hyzer. (see hole 2, 3, 11, 12, 13)

Other Thoughts:

My bias may come from not being a local. The locals seem to really like this course. I am from Nashville and I am reviewing this as someone who only played it once.

There really isn't that much "wrong" with this course. It felt like a decent course for any target audience but not a great course for any of them. Some holes are way too easy for any advanced player (2,3,5,11 etc.) , yet the long distance holes (17,18,19) would make it difficult for a beginner. I hope this critique doesn't seem harsh, I think Camp Jordan is a good course, but I would like to see a little re-working to add more obstacles. Until then I can't justify giving this course higher than a 3 because I think it has so much potential to become a better course as time goes on.

Decent 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 3, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-fairly open course, good for beginners.
-some wooded holes, to round out the course and give beginners a sense of different types of disc golf experiences
-longer alternative to other area courses

Cons:

-while good for beginners, there are way too many holes where you throw across an open field. Making the hole longer doesn't make it any more interesting. Players with a 325' controlled drive will probably not find this course very challenging.
-wooded holes are choked with underbrush and small trees, which creates a single alley to throw through. No multiple lines through trees available.. And getting more than 3 feet off the fairway means simply pitching it right back on with no real opportunity for a great "save" upshot. Underbrush and THORNS on hole 15, combined with a blind drive, make for several lost discs.
-hole 17 is just a long walk across a field back to the parking lot. I'd rather play an interesting hole and take a long walk back to the car after the round.
-different pars for pro/am. This is silly. Par is certainly always the Pro option on this course, or less. Par is always a relative number, and as you improve you are glad to see your score drop.. If a hole is obviously a par 3 everywhere in the world, then scoring a four doesn't feel better just because that's the "Am" par.

Other Thoughts:

There is a very nice selection of discs at the fireworks shop near the entrance to the park.. Certainly the only place I've found around Chattanooga for MVP or Westside or Latitude 64 discs. Good spot to replace a disc you threw in the river that is much closer than you think to holes 4,5 and 6.

I do enjoy playing here, and am glad to have a course near an area I grew up in and visit often to see family. I'd certainly recommend it to beginners trying to learn different types of throws. More advanced players will probably find more of a challenge at The Sinks, which is relatively nearby.

Trending in the wrong direction 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 30, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a very challenging course, it demands a player to have a full bag of skills and shots in order to score well on every hole. It is by far the toughest course in the Chattanooga area.

It has shorter holes, very long holes, and everything in between. Some holes are tightly wooded, some are lightly wooded, and others are very open. Many holes have water hazards- mainly a small river bordering the holes. The wooded holes have shapes of straight, left, and right. The open holes require a big arm in order to score low.

Course has concrete tees, good baskets, excellent tee signs.

This course is in a very big and nice park, and very easy to get to and close to I-75/I-24.

Cons:

Even though this is a solid and challenging course, there are a good amount of flaws:

This course is set in a major flood plain of a major feeder to the TN River. The river has the potential to take over many of the holes after a heavy rain, or at least making many of the holes very swampy for days. There will be many days throughout the year where this course will be unplayable. (I played the day after a good rain, it wasn't too bad, the creeks/river were high but not quite out of their banks, but holes 1-3 were super marshy in a field of standing water and it appears that these holes might be bad most of the year.)

There were several of the open holes here that are nothing more than a basket in a wide open field of grass. And the last 3 holes are like this but also very long. I viewed this as poor design- after hole #16 you are at the furthest point from the parking area with only a long open field between you and your car. It was as if the designer realized "oh no, we only have 2 holes left yet we are a mile from the car with only an open field with 2 trees between them!" The fact the course is an odd 19 holes just adds to my theory. *Update- only 18 holes now, redesigned, but now has more holes with litte to no obstacles than length and mandos only added as an attempt to make something interesting.

There is a walking trail around most of the holes, and each hole has a huge warning sign telling you not to throw when people are in view- seems extreme to me- in range? Sure. In view??? Rule gave me a smothered and limited feel throughout my round. Trail was very busy on a weekday afternoon- so good luck playing on the weekends.

Course is mostly flat. I think the best courses have some holes going up and down. Not the courses fault, just the land that happens to be here.

*Update 5 years later- Unfortunately this course has dropped in my rating since I last played it 5 years ago. There has been a redesign from 19 holes to 18 (presumably to avoid the walking trail as I mentioned above) that has made this course more wide open, more boring, and trickier to navigate. The holes and numbers don't always match up now. The map on the kiosk was inaccurate around holes 7-8 and navigating the wide open holes 7-10, 17-18 were much harder now as there is a good amount of distance between holes and it is not always clear which way to go next. As usual, the first 3 holes were very marshy and much of the course is going to be squishy for long periods of time. The holes bordering the river are nice, but it is very risky to be agressive because a hyzer skip off the fariway on a drive could end up in the river. I feel like I remember some better park style holes, but I think those have been changed to avoid throwing near/over the walking trail. (I understand the safety concern, but the result is a worse design.) The wooded holes were overgrown, very little fairway, tough to find discs. Some areas of the huge open field needed mowed, but likely can't because it is wet, making it tough to find discs in the fairway. The basket in the parking lot island appeared to moved to a hill. #17's basket was impossible to see from the tee because it literally was placed in a ditch which had standing water in it (really???).

I hate to be so negative, but this course, though it has some potential just has too many things not helping the cause.

Other Thoughts:

This is a ok course, very challenging, and it can/will beat you up. There are several holes where 4 (or even 5) is a pretty good score. It will be a good place for tournaments and a place to really test your game. It is not good, however, for a relaxing fun round or for newer players. It is very different from the other area courses, I really like that the Chattanooga courses offer something for all different skill levels and style preferences.

*Update- I think from now on in Chattanooga I will only play the Sinks (a reason why it is usually very busy.) For comparison, I played here on a nice Friday afternoon (Good Friday holiday to be exact), and other than two other guys monkeying around for an hour on hole 9's basket throwing trick shots, there was not another soul at this course, and it looked like it does not get played very much.

I had a little trouble finding the course once in the park, but after you enter the park area and cross the walking trail take an immediate left into the gravel drive right. The parking area appears double as an RV campground.

*This is a tough course to rate, it has potential, but it does have cons, lots of cons. I can see why others rate it higher and really like it. I originally decided on a 3.0 (good) when I first played it 5 years ago (compared to other 200+ courses I have played). But I would not recommend playing here to anybody except those who like to throw super long drives with no obstacles. 2.5 is described as "decent" on DGCR, and I feel that is the best description in its current state, and may be a bit generous, other than the fact it does have 18 tees and baskets.

Pros:

This course offers every kind of throw availiable for every kind of thrower. Carefully thought out for tee pads and pin placement. Some holes are short and some very long, which makes for a good mix of disc usage. I personally love having to think about a shot for a minute. The tee pads are in great shape and the tee signs are very detailed into how far you are throwing into which direction (ex: 260ft to field 330 ft to basket from field) to me this kept me from walking the hole and finding the basket before I threw.....saves time....loved the river flowing...great landscape...all in all an awesome course!!!!

Cons:

Cant think of any cons...

Other Thoughts:

If u are driving through nearby I would reccomend playing this course..

Pros:

It is a long course, and thus provides diversity to the Chattanooga area. Some of the holes are really long, yet still require you to play smart.

Cons:

a creek runs behind holes 4-6 and if you get an unlucky bounce off a tree or the ground you can easily lose a disc.

Other Thoughts:

a lot of fun and challenging. It is a long course so bring something to drink!

Pros:

Some very unique shots and a great mix of power and finesse. Multiple lanes on several holes, which is great for different play styles. Great T boxes.

Cons:

Very flat. A couple very straight holes that lack any challenge. Once the markers and everything are put up its going to be a lot less confusing. Not particularly challenging on most holes.

Other Thoughts:

Great course for intermediate player. The power holes are great for practicing long distance drives.

Pros:

Camp Jordan is the Chattanooga areas newest course and this is one that is not to be skipped. Located less than a half mile off I-75, this course will not disappoint. This course has a huge parking lot that can accommodate larger vehicles such as motorhomes.

Course navigation is quite easy now thanks to the "Next Tee" arrows that are located on each of the baskets. The first 9 holes create a loop as well as the last 10 to allow you to start on either the front or back.

Concrete tee pads have been poured on each hole and are of generous size. There are a few longer pads on the longer holes that are much appreciated. Brand new Chainstar baskets are on each hole and a few are elevated (3, 15 & 18). Tee signs are being made and should be up soon. Trash cans are on every few holes. I think I saw 4 or 5 of them and none were overflowing. Many people do course maintenance here and this course is quite clean.

Each hole has it's own unique challenges and no two are exactly alike. This course is long and requires accuracy and distance to score well. Definitely not for the newbie but if you can throw 300' you will enjoy yourself. I would say the majority of this course is open but thanks to well placed pins and tees, obstacles (trees, creeks, mounds of dirt) come into play and only 3 holes are completely open. The wooded holes are a bit intimidating but fairways are wide enough to not be overly frustrating and brush has been cleared out when needed.

A variety of shots are needed to do well on this course. There are dogleg rights and left and one that even has both (Hole 14). A few straight holes are a good relief but require the distance. Tunnel shots, water behind baskets, drop-offs behind baskets, shooting over a large ditch and an island green all test your nerves and concentration.

Cons:

It's hard to find anything wrong with this course. The only thing missing right now is tee signs and benches. *UPDATE: Tee Signs are now in place* A few more trash cans could be placed and bag hooks at the tees would be nice as well.

A few of the holes are a bit swampy when it rains or a few days after rain.

Other Thoughts:

*Update Jan6 - All holes now in to make a full 18 holes*

This course was designed to be a championship level course and they succeeded in all ways. It is hard to rate this course a 5 because there are a few things that could make this spectacular. Don't get me wrong, I throughly enjoyed this course, I could not have done a better job and I'm sure the "cons" will be addressed.

Pros:

Everything u need is there. It's not for newbie, suggestion for immediate or up in level players. Some hole required accuracy, technical, and, wise shot.
1st hole threw thru 125 feet narrow tunnel before clear out next 300feet left to basket. 2nd &3rd hole open shot. 4th uphill about 20 ft then straight ahead. 5th hole narrow but watch out river!
6th hole, wooden, required tech shot. 7 &8 th hole open. 9th hole up hilly but wide open. 10-12 holes wide open, 13 th hole, demand accuracy thru tunnel.
14th hole, required throw 1st 200feet include tunnel before threw left anyher(sp) . 15th hole, basically throw blind. Throw left anyher 265 feet. 16th hole, straight 1st 150+feet then turn right and throw straight.
17th hole, LONG throw! 853 feet. 18 & 19 th wide open all are variety shot but beautiful course. Easy access to from interstate.

Cons:

Direction as to next tee can be tricky but once u know where whole course, it's peachy. None about it that negative but it's hard course.

Other Thoughts:

It has concrete pad but sign has not put up as of yet. I got 77 but I enjoy that course. The first review above that I read, if it was Facebook, I would click "like" for sure!

Pros:

-brand new course, no concrete yet but still had the feel of a top calibur course.
-All variety of shots
-The first few holes allow you to warm up before it shows its teeth (hole 6) ouch. Loved every hole and how each one had a curtain uniqueness to it. hole 6, and the whole back 9 rocked my balls...tip for the newbies that never played this course...bring your big boy pants.
-you get everything here...woods, open air, water, big rough, long drives, tech shots, elevated tees, and list goes on.

Cons:

-none that i can say now that I see concrete tees are in.
-oh yeah, navigation was tricky but im sure they are rectifying that or already have.

Other Thoughts:

so easy to get to. right off the interstate...I wouldnt be suprised to see this course being an A-Tier to the PDGA soon. Dont forget your water bottles, its a long course.
