Caryl Cowden Park is home to a decent little nine hole course. The park itself is rather tiny but does have a little bit of rolling terrain and plenty of trees to force you to hit a line on this set of shorter, beginner friendly holes. The park doesn't have much else going on so you'll most likely be undisturbed by other activities or even disc golfers.

The tees are natural but all were in fine shape when I played. There's stone blocks in the ground denoting each tee location though at least. These have the hole # spray painted on them in white. Pretty basic but effective.

The tee signs are white painted wood arrows that aim in the direction of the intended target and have the hole # on them. Again, basic but about all that's needed here. These make finding the tee stones quite a bit easier.

Clean park, permanent and free to play.

Homemade baskets that are made out of plastic 55 gallon drums. These only have a single set of chains and don't catch the greatest but certainly better than you'd think by just taking a look at them. The "cages" are warped inward on most of them which drastically reduces the area for a disc to drop into though. The top section being wider than the cage doesn't help things either. I will say that the white plastic makes them easy to spot and they do have the hole # painted on the top at least.

The distances are all on the shorter side and the course itself is kind of repetitive feeling with most of the holes being almost exactly the same.

Not the most obvious paths between holes but it's such a small park that you'll still have no issue navigating it. A map will speed things up though.

A few of the trees could stand to get some trimming of branches. There's a few danglers that are right in what's intended to be the optimal line to the basket. If anything this makes it a bit tougher at least I suppose.

I love playing on these goofy homemade types of baskets personally. Most will not though. The course itself is actually pretty fun though if you can get past the baskets. Not a must play be any stretch of the imagination but it is pretty fun, and quick to play, if you do decide to stop in here. Quirky but more memorable than more standard style park courses. I'd play it again.

You'll probably have the whole park to yourself.

Good tree cover on hot sunny days.

Close to Rochester.

Decent signage that is fairly easy to find once you understand what you're looking for (white numbered arrow signs nailed to trees at each tee, and a brick at the tee spot)

Park is maintained and mowed, no weeds and not muddy.

Homemade plastic bucket baskets don't work like the real thing, and will likely add a stroke or two to your game score.

The course is packed into a small area. If there were others playing at the same time, it could be awkward. Most likely you'll have the entire park to yourself, so this won't be an issue.

Because the holes are close together, it is easy to get confused about which goal you are aiming for. First time through may be a bit confusing until you understand the layout.

Definitely not a pro-level course. If that's something that is important to you, this isn't for you.

This is a fun little course in my opinion. If you are just looking for a casual round, and especially if you don't take yourself or the game too seriously, you'll probably have a nice time here.

If you fancy yourself as a professional or get angry if things are a bit different than usual, you won't enjoy this one, avoid it. The homemade goals and smaller area might annoy you more than it should.

My expectations weren't high, but I really liked this course and will definitely be back. It's quiet, the holes are fun to play, and it's close to Rochester.

Look for the white Arrow signs nailed to the trees for the tees, and the cement pavers to mark the tee spots, and you'll have a nice quick round here. The homemade goals don't work like professional ones, but if you can think of that as a different added challenge it just adds to the fun.

Certainly not in the same league as million dollar professional courses, not even close, but it's a nice little wooded area where you can have a fun game. We had fun playing here, and I hope you do too.

+The layout actually isn't too bad considering the tiny size of this park. All holes are ace run opportunities and some of them are quite wooded. Stop by with your putter and run some homemade chains.
+Tees are marked on the ground and on the tree.
+Nothing else going on here but disc golf.
+Park seemed to be reasonably well maintained.

-Homemade baskets. Not really good ones either. You could have a great ace shot bounce out due to the lightweight chains/construction of the baskets.
-Super short. Like accidentally overthrow with your putter short.

-Very small piece of land. Even 9 holes of super short disc golf and a small parking area are crammed in here.

+Can get a round done in about 10 minutes. Good for course baggers.
+Probably should have bought some baskets and tried to get a 6 holer in here.
+Not a lot to say about this tiny course tucked into a neighborhood. Try it with low expectations and you might have a little fun.

if I had to come up with something it would be that the grass is green and the trees are alive

very short distances (150' avg.) - more like a putt-putt course, homemade pvc baskets (warped and lightwieght), basically flat terrain, no obstacles (other than some mature trees), no water

This seems like another attempt of a city trying to give the community something nice and in the process disappointing the disc golf community. The full course is crunched on a 2 acre vacant lot in a residential area.
