Pros:
After seeing a composite 2.0 rating for this 4 basket 9 hole Crosswynde course , I was curious how they pulled it off . They didn't . Coming into this apartment complex , you are immediately not feeling a good vibe . I parked in a prospective renters space hoping that I wouldn't get chased out . Print the map , or you will wander aimlessly around .
Cons:
#1 . This is NOT , in my opinion , a course . 8 brown poles with metal numbers on it ( I looked all over but could not find the #7 pole , so I had to safari it ) throwing to 4 Dynamic Recruit baskets chained down ( They are more for people to buy so they can practice in their yard , instead of installing on a course ) that don't catch well . There is no kiosk or any directional signs to guide you . , so print a map . The basket behind the large tree next to the lake serves holes 1,8 & 9 . There is a basket around the corner of one of the complexes that serves holes 2 & 7 , one basket beyond a dog park and gathering place is for holes 3 & 6 and a basket sitting in an open fairway is for 4 & 5 . You are not sure where to stand when next to the poles , since the grass has no wear in it . Sad . #2 Safety . WOW !!!! Where do I start ?! Unless a traveler picking up a quick course , I can figure that only a newbie living in the apartments would come here , since 5 or 6 decent courses are less than 10 miles from here . There is a lot of lake water and " Danger , Alligators " signs posted . Sending newbie " Junior " out with a newly bought roller disc might not be a good call when his arm gets taken off from reaching for his disc to a sloping hill next to the lake . Combine this with having to throw over a dog park and a gazebo where some older residents meet on holes 3 and 6 , the complexes that are in play very close to holes 2 , 3 , 5 & 7 . and you have a great reason to shut this course down . I couldn't throw hole 2 because someone had put a picnic table at the end of the fairway and 4 people were sitting and talking . I don't know if anyone here knows anything about the course , which is fine . #3 Target Group . This time , I am not talking about the potential human targets on the course . I am what people that this course is designed for . No decent players will play this , even if they live IN the complexes . Travelers will want to get on/off the course as quickly as possible if they need a warm up before playing a real course .Newbies or families ? There are a couple of water carries and a lake in the back near the flight path of hole 6 ( lake in front is also close to holes 3 & 7's paths . That , plus breaking a window out of your neighbors place isn't very attractive . #4 . Disc Risk . There are a couple of spots where the rough is a little high , but the grounds are well kept . The disc risk lies in the water carries ( safe for a decent casual ) and maybe a mad tenant who , after getting beaned , will either throw it in the lake for you , or try to shove it up your nose . #5 no ameneties . no tee pads , signs , real baskets , etc. If not for my friend , the well traveled and organized Wellsbranch , there would be no online map , either .
Other Thoughts:
I have always be up for someone installing a course to promote disc golf , and as long as taken care of , I try to give the benefit of the doubt .The grounds here are very nice , with Spanish moss and large oak trees on the premises . but this course is a dud . I will bet that they pull this within a year or 2 after several tenants or their pets ( or their windows ) are struck by a disc , or someone gets eaten at the lake . Putting practice ? go to holes 4 or 6 for that . I personally wouldn't see myself playing this course again , even if I lived in the complex next to hole 5 . My Recommendation : REALLY ?!?! This course serves no one . Even introducing the curious to the game . I don't want them thinking that this is the norm . Unless a bagger picking up a quick play , avoid this course . Drive or bike to the many other nearby parks with real courses .
