At least they tried

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Being on a condo property, it's maintained beautifully. There are benches around the pond and even next to one of the tee areas.

They were able to make a few holes pretty tight to the water, but I still only used a Roc and Aviar. The two lakes in site made the views pretty nice while playing.

The tee areas have a post with a number, and natural pads.

Cons:

It's difficult to call this a course, as it doesn't have proper playability or a cohesive track. There are only four baskets, and 9 tee posts, so with it not being a busy park it's possible to be able to play everything without worrying about hitting anyone, but it would have felt better if they had just made the tee areas go straight line back and forth rather than the criss-cross/scatter pattern they've implemented.

Being on a condo property, there aren't any public restrooms or any trash cans to utilize while playing.

Other Thoughts:

This would be nice to have at your apartment to warm up before heading out to your local 9 or 18, or for entertaining friends without killing them on a harder course.

Not Worth A Stop 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 17, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

After seeing a composite 2.0 rating for this 4 basket 9 hole Crosswynde course , I was curious how they pulled it off . They didn't . Coming into this apartment complex , you are immediately not feeling a good vibe . I parked in a prospective renters space hoping that I wouldn't get chased out . Print the map , or you will wander aimlessly around .

Cons:

#1 . This is NOT , in my opinion , a course . 8 brown poles with metal numbers on it ( I looked all over but could not find the #7 pole , so I had to safari it ) throwing to 4 Dynamic Recruit baskets chained down ( They are more for people to buy so they can practice in their yard , instead of installing on a course ) that don't catch well . There is no kiosk or any directional signs to guide you . , so print a map . The basket behind the large tree next to the lake serves holes 1,8 & 9 . There is a basket around the corner of one of the complexes that serves holes 2 & 7 , one basket beyond a dog park and gathering place is for holes 3 & 6 and a basket sitting in an open fairway is for 4 & 5 . You are not sure where to stand when next to the poles , since the grass has no wear in it . Sad . #2 Safety . WOW !!!! Where do I start ?! Unless a traveler picking up a quick course , I can figure that only a newbie living in the apartments would come here , since 5 or 6 decent courses are less than 10 miles from here . There is a lot of lake water and " Danger , Alligators " signs posted . Sending newbie " Junior " out with a newly bought roller disc might not be a good call when his arm gets taken off from reaching for his disc to a sloping hill next to the lake . Combine this with having to throw over a dog park and a gazebo where some older residents meet on holes 3 and 6 , the complexes that are in play very close to holes 2 , 3 , 5 & 7 . and you have a great reason to shut this course down . I couldn't throw hole 2 because someone had put a picnic table at the end of the fairway and 4 people were sitting and talking . I don't know if anyone here knows anything about the course , which is fine . #3 Target Group . This time , I am not talking about the potential human targets on the course . I am what people that this course is designed for . No decent players will play this , even if they live IN the complexes . Travelers will want to get on/off the course as quickly as possible if they need a warm up before playing a real course .Newbies or families ? There are a couple of water carries and a lake in the back near the flight path of hole 6 ( lake in front is also close to holes 3 & 7's paths . That , plus breaking a window out of your neighbors place isn't very attractive . #4 . Disc Risk . There are a couple of spots where the rough is a little high , but the grounds are well kept . The disc risk lies in the water carries ( safe for a decent casual ) and maybe a mad tenant who , after getting beaned , will either throw it in the lake for you , or try to shove it up your nose . #5 no ameneties . no tee pads , signs , real baskets , etc. If not for my friend , the well traveled and organized Wellsbranch , there would be no online map , either .

Other Thoughts:

I have always be up for someone installing a course to promote disc golf , and as long as taken care of , I try to give the benefit of the doubt .The grounds here are very nice , with Spanish moss and large oak trees on the premises . but this course is a dud . I will bet that they pull this within a year or 2 after several tenants or their pets ( or their windows ) are struck by a disc , or someone gets eaten at the lake . Putting practice ? go to holes 4 or 6 for that . I personally wouldn't see myself playing this course again , even if I lived in the complex next to hole 5 . My Recommendation : REALLY ?!?! This course serves no one . Even introducing the curious to the game . I don't want them thinking that this is the norm . Unless a bagger picking up a quick play , avoid this course . Drive or bike to the many other nearby parks with real courses .

I Can’t Reccommend This Apartment Course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 31, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Crosswynde Apartment Complex DGC plays around the side of the complex by the lake and then backtracks back around that side. The little course has just four baskets for the nine hole course. The # 1 basket also serves as the # 8 and # 9 basket. # 4 and # 5 both utilize the same basket while # 2 and # 7 share that basket. And the same basket is used for # 3 and # 6. It's not the greatest system but probably is just fine for the folks who occasionally play here.

There are no tee pads. The signs are just little brown poles with a house # on them. The baskets are by Dynamic. They're a black, thinner gage basket that probably wouldn't hold up in a public park but work out OK here. These are actually a temporary model which is chained down.

Much of the course plays around a large lake complete with alligator warning signs. # 2 throws across the corner of the lake while # 8 is an estimated 175' carry. My problem is the clientele who frequent this course would most likely be total beginners probably playing with one disc. I'm pretty certain that very few regular golfers frequent this course. Holes 5-6-7 all play next to the lake.

Cons:

I looked all over and couldn't find the # 7 tee pad even though I had printed off the course map from DGCR.

Only four, cheaply built, unattractive Dynamic baskets.

Some holes play close to the lake and are also close to the apartment buildings.

The course had standing water on # 1 and was very soggy elsewhere.

Having water carries, however short, is not a great design feature for a total recreational course like this especially over waters filled with ravenous alligators.

No tee pads. No signs.

Other Thoughts:

If I lived in these apartments, I can't imagine myself ever playing this course. There are five other DG courses anywhere from three to 10 miles away. I'd walk the 7.3 miles and play Buckhorn DGC. I liked that little course a lot. Actually, I wouldn't walk that far but I would gladly drive there in my automobile. But this review isn't about Buckhorn, it's about Crosswynde DGC and my final thoughts on Crosswynde DGC are, unless you just want to bag another course, I can't in good faith recommend you play this course.

Condo Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 4, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

(1.280 Rating) I'm shocked that a course with 4 baskets could be this good.
- RAW BEAUTY - First and foremost, a surprisingly beautiful piece of property. Lots of views of the water and all the ponds have natural overgrown areas where the vegetation looks quite exotic. Several large oak trees and you'll also play next to a eloquent garden and craftsman style gazebo. The beauty definitely added to the round experience for me. Not five star beauty, but I'd give it a 3.
- NAVIGATION - Not to be confused with layout flow (see cons). Once I found the course it was surprisingly not too hard to traverse, even without a map. I probably spent no more than 5 minutes trying to find tee markers. For a future player's benefit, I recorded my findings and posted a course map under the Links/Files tab.
- QUICK PLAY - I took my time here and still finished in under 30 minutes. figure a group of 4 with an empty course should be able to tackle a round in less than an hour.
- UNIQUENESS - A touch below average, but for courses I've rated this low, its surprisingly really good. To start, you'll have to consider a risk reward plays on several holes. Holes (2, 3 and 7) all have better attack plays to the basket if you're willing to throw over the water and bend it back into play. The course favors RHBH players like me but there is at least a couple times I'd personally throw in a flick shot. There is also a par 4 and par 5, albeit short, they will challenge rec players to make par and will require solid placement on the initial tee shot.
- CHALLENGING - You would think a condo course would be a 200 foot pitch and putt. Nope. Although I found the difficultly to be a touch below average, it was way more difficult than I was expecting. The shortest holes are in the mid 200 foot range and you'll have to contend with lots of water and low hanging trees. (Note, the shortest holes are listed as 290 feet on the tee post, but Google satellite data disagrees, and see some around 250 feet)
- GROW THE SPORT - No doubt this course will aid in growing the sport by offering residents an easy way to try out the sport. I hope to see more of these resident complex courses where space is available.

Cons:

Limited due to the amount of baskets.
- 4 BASKETS - Having this few of baskets definitely hurts Crosswynde's rating. Some may argue that it's not even a course, although I'd disagree as all nine shots are distinct.
- LAYOUT FLOW - Obviously with only 4 baskets, the layout is going to be funky with the baskets being reused. Being on this course with other groups will be even more of an issue as its going to cause flow problems every time the groups converge to use the same fairway.
- LOTS OF WATER - You'll see it on every hole and it comes into play seven times.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - Way too difficult for beginners and probably some recreational players. As mentioned above, the water comes into play seven times. Myself as a 900ish rated player, I definitely felt tested by it a couple times. If I lived here, I'd definitely be picking up some floaters. The longest water clear is about 230 feet on (8), but there is also a 300 plus risk reward throw on the par 5 (hole 7).
- CHAINS - Not the heaviest set of chains you'll see on a course, Dynamic Recruit. Funny to note that it's actually the basket I'm considering purchasing.
- CHARACTER - You won't find any extras here like at an established course. No seating, no map, no community board, no practice basket, etc. There is however nice tee posts that offer a very visible tee number, sharpie hole distance and sharpie fairway line. There is also a picnic table by (3/6) basket.
- TEES AREA - The tees are grass and void of any permanent line markings for a tee edge. I think the next step for this new course would be to add some sort of marker, otherwise it's on your honor to release your disc near the tee post.

Other Thoughts:

I made the mistake and grabbed only two discs out of my bag to play this one. I kind of wish I had the whole bag. I think it's pretty awesome that a condominium put in a course on their property. Now I just need to convince the wife to move here so I can play everyday ;)

Nice Looking Condo Complex Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 4, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice scenic looking course that plays between the buildings and the lakes mostly. Plenty of trees to shot shape around and some surprisingly long and tricky holes. Mostly grass tees and 4x4 wood posts for tee signs. The baskets and 4x4's have the hole # on them.

Cons:

There are only four baskets here. So most holes share a basket with another hole and one basket is used three times. The course plays through a popular dog walking area and there may be a risk of hitting buildings or cars on some of the holes. One hole has you throwing over a garden and a picnicking area. The course is not beginner friendly imo as there are some tricky throws and some water hazards and even a water carry that might scare lower skill levels.

Other Thoughts:

The course is brand new as of this review and could certainly benefit from some modifications. That said, if I lived here I would play this course every day and make up my own tees.

Nice little course surrounded by a beautiful wildlife preserve 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 1, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Such a beautiful course, and all nine holes are fun and somewhat challenging. Even though there's a lot of water features, I wouldn't call them hazards. You would have to make a pretty bad throw to end up in the water. A lot of old growth oak trees and spanish moss to admire. For such a small course you have a lot of opportunities to use different discs in your bag.
