Pros:
Since I rate on safety, fun, and challenge (in that order), I had to go a little high amongst the nine holers I've played. The 'Woods' course in Batesville exists on its own, secluded plot of land (a paved walking trail is the only adjacent park activity), and only has two spots where I had any concern about crossing fairway potential (see cons).
This course was totally enjoyable for me, a middling, aging, approach-game disc golfer. It opened with an obvious downslope gliding putter/mid shot with a mid-fairway tree or two to define your lane, and finished in a pocket across a small rill/creek bridge. Sweet! Then hole 2 is as much of as 'top of the world' shot as could be found in this little parcel, again aceable if you hit that clean line. Sweeter! It then winds along the creek on 3, longer downslope on 4 (into the trees), floated a quirky anny Comet shot on 5, and had a reachable and uniquely pedestalled uphiller on 6. I was thinking how much I'd like to share the experience with my disc golfing buddy. Even the back-and-forth nature of the finishing three holes was fun because I could easily reach all of them.
Overall, the course isn't here to challenge the advanced to open player, but is a unique and well-designed set of challenges for the recreational level player. It was difficult to rate (I wanted to go a little higher on my score…)
Cons:
…but it's true, the mixed tees need to be finalized, and the replay factor would only stay high with alternate tees (and I'm not really sure there's enough room in the land for that. Furthermore, they did HAVE to put up a (nice) billboard sign advertising the course on hole 4, because the left side of the fairway very easily crashes through the 3rd green. And the funky sweeping left to right hillside fairway on 5 is obvious, but there will be guys who'll seek the line straight over the 4th basket to get there, whether they make it a mando or not.
Other Thoughts:
First, if you're from out of town, the directions using Coonhunters Road off SR46 won't be obvious. Turn at the light for Pearl Street and veer left. THEN you'll be on the right road.
Next, the course is clearly the "Getty Community Disc Course", since that's what the billboard on hole 4 says. However, like most places, it'll probably be called by some other name, like Liberty Woods, or even "that GOOD course in Batesville".
Finally, I did add a schematic map for first timers. Hope it's not too far off.
