Pros:
1) Nice use of the sidehill below the soccer field on the first 6 holes. The basket location is key here because it presents a challenge to the thrower on every shot. There is no easy skip in shot because it won't skip . . . in fact it might even get up and roll away.
2) Nice new DGA baskets with powder coated blue on the baskets. These are typical of WI courses for some reason.
3) Signs at every teebox makes navigation easy. The signs have an overhead photo with the holes drawn onto the laminated photo.
4) The course presents a couple of unique holes. The first three are about the same hole, but the fourth is a blind teeshot over the corner of the hill to a basket on the other side. I also like that the last couple holes are tucked against the natural area . . . BE CAREFUL OF THE LOCUST TREES THEY ARE THORNY!
5) Beginner friendly and still fun to try and park it for the avid golfer. Only one or two holes are flat and straight out with no real thought needed. The rest have the sidehill to worry about or the natural area with the thorny Locust trees.
6) 2 picnic tables available by the first tee, but I would guess it isn't ever busy.
7) Elevation is moderate but the first three holes have the basket on a sidehill with 10-25' above and below the basket that is sloped. #4 is level overall but you have to throw up and over a hill to get to the basket. #5 through #9 are all relatively flat too, but there is elevation to the side or behind everyone of these baskets that is actually very much in play
8) Rules of disc golf sign at the first tee area. Always a positive to post this sign to help the youngsters learn the actual rules rather than just going out with their friends. It hopefully will begin to breed a more considerate and competetive disc golf population.
Cons:
1) Hole distances are way too similar. The longest hole and the shortest hole will present virtually the same challenge to the beginner, and very little challenge to any avid player. It looks like they had the room to make a couple holes longer, but perhaps they were then worried about safety, regardless it would have been better with a bigger variety in my opinion.
2) All the baskets are totally accessible with a simple hyzer or straight shot. There isn't any hole that really requires an anhyzer. The hillside makes certain shots more difficult because of how the disc might land, but it doesn't present enough of a challenge.
3) Very short overall not just consistantly short. Average hole just barely over 200'.
4) Repetetive holes on the first 3 holes, then the last 3 holes are also very similar too each other also.
5) I know it is a school grounds but I would have thought they would have garbage cans out there for those kids that play after school, but perhaps it only gets use during gym class. There is a large dumpster by the first tee.
6) Grass tees always leave something to be desired, even thought a runup is not needed on these holes. There also is no actual marking of the tee area. I just threw from the side of the post. I always like the hole to be the same for everyone and people will just move wherever they want to to throw.
Other Thoughts:
Another mediocre school disc golf course. It brings in some elements of challenge, but it looks to me like they could have used the grove of locust trees ont he other sidehill (above the soccer field) to create some better holes and also perhaps add some distance and elevation change. It won't keep a decent players interest unless it is really windy, but it should be fun for beginners to learn on and also be challenged. You have to take this course for what it is . . . a gym class course for school aged beginner kids to learn the sport and be active. For that I give it a thumbs up. For me it is simply (as they say in spanish) asi asi.
