Pros:
Three baskets in a field. Technically one is on pine needles and there's a tree or two in the way depending on which direction you're standing. And it's close to a playground. Call that one partially field-ish.
- There's room to make semi-decent layouts here. Make six holes around 125 - 150 feet long. Make it a fun AcePlace layout for kids.
- The area is open enough for some decent field work.
- Baskets were installed in '22 so all are in good condition.
- Good for kids and other practice work.
- It's a simple walk on the greenway from here to Squirrel Lake.
Cons:
The best basket locale is also the most dangerous. It's located close to the playground. If kids are playing on it, you can't be throwing more than 25 foot putts. Even then, do you want to be the guy lurking around the playground?
- Other two baskets are essentially in the open. If you're trying to create a layout, little to no challenge.
- Course is unavailable during school hours.
- Not much to offer. How many times can you throw 250 foot shots back and forth between baskets?
Other Thoughts:
Good on Matthews Elementary and volunteers for installing three baskets here. Maybe the kids enjoy it here.
- It's a practice area, nothing more. Even then, you're practicing approach shots and putting, and that's it.
- In terms of east side school practice areas, it's better than McKee Road Elementary and on par with Indian Trail Elementary. So, for all of you reading in Texas, Michigan, or Colorado, that'll clarify things for you. It's no Flexible Learning Center in Rock Hill however.
- I stopped by one time to bag this course. Threw from basket to basket. And I was still completely bored. I was also done in five minutes, then headed on.
- My favorite basket. It's not this one or that one. It's the other one.
- Despite driving by tons of times, I've had zero interest to stop by here again.
