Somewhat interesting

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 12, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Navigation is pretty easy once you find hole 1
- No tee signs but there are large wooden posts in the ground with the hole number painted in white on top
- Tone poles are blue and easy to see, contrast nicely with the rest of the colors behind it. They also make a distinctive sound that you can hear from the tee pad if you're lucky enough to ace it
- The elevation here is what makes it interesting
- I really like where the tones are located on the down hill throws. It makes distance control key as there is nasty rough and water behind the tone if you go long

Cons:

- Aside from the elevation there isn't anything else really to challenge you as the course is wide open
- Some of the uphill shots play longer than their distance but otherwise it's a pretty short course with every hole under 250
- Some slight potential danger with crossing fairways and hole 1 plays near the parking lot with an unintended RHBH hyzer possibly hitting a car if someone is parked there like there was when I was here
- The tee pads are tiny and not meant for a run up. On courses that have tee pads like these I add the extra rule that every shot for me will be a standstill
- Limited availability as you can't play during school hours

Other Thoughts:

It's been a while since I've played a tone pole course and I get the sense that they are dying out which I have mixed feeling about. On one hand I really like putting into baskets and miss them when playing tones but on the other hand I do like the simplicity and old school feel of tones. If this course had baskets I could see it being much more popular than it currently is which perhaps the school wouldn't want. This is an option if you're in town and the only course in the city limits that has elevation. It's a quick round for those of you visiting the city, I think I was back to the car in under 30 minutes.

Nice Beginner Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 19, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice course for beginners. Not many trees. All par 3 holes. Tees and baskets are clearly marked. Also has a football field next to course that is great for practicing your throws just like a driving range.

Cons:

Easy to overshoot many of the holes. Also the course in on school grounds so not always available to play due to class in session.

Other Thoughts:

A course to play on the weekends or after school hours during the week.

Pitch N Putt School Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 21, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

- 9 Permament metal tone targets.
- Tees are clearly marked with large fence posts that have had the tops painted white and the hole number marked.
- Good hole lengths for a Elementary/Middle School course for beginners.
- Nice use of elevation.
- Course gets mowed.
- Beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
- Free to play.
- Creek is brought into play on a few holes.

Cons:

- The Tees aren't great. 3 are small concrete pads that weren't poured very level. The rest are made of either 2 or 3 large pavers. I managed fine but was only throwing a Roc and Aviar. For kids that might need to put a little more into their throws these could make things a bit difficult. Also, most of them are right next to the previous target.
- Few to no trees in play. There's a small pine on hole 2. The trees along the right side of hole 7 are kind of in play for RHBH hyzer. Thats about it. Hopefully some trees get planted as that could drastically improve the course if done correctly.
- A few holes cross each other. 3 and 4 cross 9 and 5 crosses near 8's Tee. Doubtful that the course is ever busy enough for it to really matter, but not ideal.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice little 9 hole school course. No real bells and whistles but its well maintained and in a beautiful setting. The only real challenge is created by elevation as there are almost not trees in play. The tone targets are in great shape and ring really nicely. Not a course for serious golfers but great for kids from the school, beginners/family, or course baggers looking for a really quick and easy pelt. I'd recommend off hours as the course is dead in the middle of campus.
