Pros:
(1.104 Rating) A Simplistic open layout where skilled locals can aim for 9 down.
- ACEABILITY - The thought of smashing chains will be the only thing to keep skilled players entertained. Hole (2) is jump putt to some players being right around a 100 feet long.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - The perfect setting to teach someone the game. Likely a low traffic course and it's a very forgiving format. Great for juniors too.
- MAINTENANCE - Appears to be well maintained. I scanned through all the prior reviewed and none of them mention unkempt conditions. Schools in general, usually keep their grounds in check and this one is no different.
- NAVIGATION - Not perfect, but once finding tee (1), I personally had little trouble finding my way around. Tee (1) is located next to a building on the south end of the course layout. After that the transitions are either short or somewhat intuitive. With the tee signs mounted on the pads I could see some players strolling to the wrong pad on first play, but its just so open that everyone will figure it out with no more than an extra 5 minutes of recon.
- QUICK PLAY - Quick solos could bag this course in fifteen to twenty minutes.
- TEES - Passable. Rubber 5 foot by 10 foot pads. Little effort was made to level them as they follow the slope of the terrain, but I've seen way worse.
Cons:
Too basic for most players.
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - I almost shot my first ever 9 down on a nine hole course. While on the circles edge on hole (9), I clanked my putt off the top the basket rim. This is a Beginners and Novice level course through and through. Five holes are completely open and the obstacles on the other four are generally simple.
- TEE SIGNS - A major goof on the tee signs. First off, I'm not keen on the idea of listing yardage. I've only seen that on a couple other courses. Second, the yardage figure is off by 1/3 less. Meaning they likely measured in feet, and then divided by 2 instead of 3. Kind of laughable for a trade school to make this kind of error.
- CHARACTER - Other than passable basics of baskets, navigation and tees, there are no other amenities or comfort items here.
- UNIQUENESS - Very bland. Shorter distances all together and most holes can be attacked from every angle. No water elements and elevation maxes out at 20 feet on any one hole.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - Unless you happen to catch the setting sun over this open landscape, its very likely that the camera won't come out. I scored the course a 1.75 out of 5. The maintained appearance was the best aspect.
- SPACING - The course is jammed into a small space and beginners will likely throw into adjacent fairways. As stated above, likely a low traffic course so the poor spacing will normally not be a factor.
Other Thoughts:
I liked it for what it was, a low-key well-kept beginners' course. No reason for the serious disc golfer to head here as there are likely 2 or 3 better courses within a 15-minute drive. I personally would recommend nearby Riverside park. I'm sure Sandy Knoll is nice too, but I've yet to play there.
